Someone is slaughtering the innocent. Fiercely independent Logan McKenna faces her worst fears. That someone now has her daughter.
It’s summer, and with a new job, a new life, and plenty of time for her music, life couldn’t be better for Logan. She and her daughter, Amy, home from Africa, even rescue an orphaned sea otter pup. They help nurse it back to health at Jasper’s fledgling Sea Otter … Jasper’s fledgling Sea Otter Center. But more than one person lays claim to the gorgeous stretch of coastal property upon which the center is built. All want it badly—but for very different reasons. Soon, storm clouds begin to swirl around the center, threatening the lives of all who enter.
When Logan arrives to start her shift, she makes a tragic discovery. One of her talented young students, also a volunteer, has been coldly murdered. Just steps away, Logan finds another victim, the owner of the center, barely alive.
As the most powerful coastal storm in decades grows ever more violent, Logan’s worst fears are confirmed. The center’s Zodiac raft is missing. So are Amy and the baby sea otter. Neither are equipped to survive the storm.
Pulling out all the stops, Logan enlists the help of friends in the small town of Jasper she calls home, racing to rescue Amy before the killer or the storm take her daughter from her forever. Only love, trust, and community have any chance of stopping the killer, before more lives, including Logan’s own, are lost.

DEVIL’S CLAW (A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 3) by Valerie Davisson. This is an amazing book. I have loved these books and this is probably my favorite. This book reminded me of one of my favorite authors James Patterson. Its the story of Logan McKenna and her daughter who has come home from Africa. Logan has been left some coastal property along with her 1/2 sibling. The problem is someone else wants the property so badly that they will commit murder to have it. As Amy and her mom nurse a baby sea otter back to health we learn a ton about Sea Otters and their habitats. When someone Logan is close to is murdered she learns of long held resentment from someone that she had no clue was upset. Will this killer kill again before they figure out who it is? Will the property left to Logan be worth all the greed, loss of life and pain? Read Devil’s Claw to find out!
Devil’s Claw by Valerie Davisson is the third book in the Logan McKenna Mystery series. I really enjoyed this addition to the series. The character of Logan McKenna is great to read about and there is always something interesting which turns Logan’s world upside down. This book hits some themes which all will understand and relate to: resentment, pain, personal loss, and greed. What these do to some is unmentionable while others come through the flames. The story is interesting and kept me reading to find out what all the twists would lead to. I always enjoy a good story with interesting characters which keeps me reading late into the night. I look forward to where this series goes to in the future.
4 Stars
Devil’s Claw is the third book in The Logan McKenna Series by Valerie Davisson.
Another cosy mystery- with drama, danger, crime, intrigue, and a little adventure. The author had me at sea otters, and the book got extra points for including the sea otters, their rescue, and research.
Logan is drawn into a dangerous situation as a piece of picturesque coastal land causes tension and danger to boil over with various parties laying claim to the same parcel of land. With a murder hitting close to home, Logan will have to get to the heart of the bitterness and greed if there is any possibility of thwarting the killer before they strike again.
Otterly intriguing!
Thank you, Valerie Davisson!
This being the third book in the series, it has definitely not lost any of its charisma and Valerie Davisson just seems to improve and rise to the occasion by publishing yet another great book.
Following characters that we have met before; Davisson does a great job of continuing their story and keeping the characters individual traits and quirks which then brings a realism aspect to the book, keeping the reader engaged in their stories and journeys.
The author has a very descriptive way of writing as well as encouraging serious topics but in such a way that is not condescending but an informative narrative. Each character has different views and ideas on certain topics in the book and Davisson keeps true to her characters in that she doesn’t let her own person bias cloud the way she writes.
A brilliant book in this series!
This series has yet to disappoint me. I’m so in love with Logan’s character! She definitely knows how to get herself into situations and out just as easily. Great book, I’m ready for the next one!
Devil’s Claw is the best novel yet in the Logan McKenna Mystery series. Valarie Davisson will have you on the edge of your seat reading this wonderful thrilling novel. Who doesn’t love when an author paints the best picture of a place but puts a twist on it. Join Logan in another adventure and murder as she tries to unravel the mess she finds. I absolutely love this series by Valarie Davisson. Not only does she keep you involved in the novel, she describes the characters as if they are real life people.
This is the book in this series, I enjoyed it just as much if not more than the previous stories. I highly suggest reading all of the books in this series. This is a story that is full of action and suspense. The twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. Logan is back in this book with a new murder but this time it’s someone close to her. Lot 429 – is a partial of property that is in high demand. Everyone seems to want it but how far will they go to get it? As the story turns dangerous, a community trying to stop a murderer may just turn more deadly. Logan has been one of my favorite characters from the beginning. She is a strong character and really just makes the story for me. I have no problems connecting with her and the rest of the characters in the story. This is an easy, entertaining story and it made a great afternoon story. I highly recommend this book.
Great book, easy read.
