Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea…
Police Chief Delaney Reed is good at keeping secrets for the beach town of Ordinary Oregon–just ask the vacationing gods or supernatural creatures who live there.
But with the first annual Cake and Skate fundraiser coming up, the only secret Delaney really wants to know is how to stop the unseasonable rain storms. When all the god powers are … the god powers are stolen, a vampire is murdered, and her childhood crush turns out to be keeping deadly secrets of his own, rainy days are the least of her worries.
Hunting a murderer, outsmarting a know-it-all god, and uncovering an ancient vampire’s terrifying past isn’t how she planned to spend her summer. But then again, neither is falling back in love with the one man she should never trust.

The action intensifies and the stakes rise in this second book of the Ordinary Magic series. I couldn’t wait to start reading this after the first book, and I bought the third within minutes of finishing book two! LOVE LOVE LOVE the world that Devon Monk has created, and the characters, both main and secondary, are amazing.
This is book 2 of the “Ordinary Magic” series, and it was a very satisfying follow up. In “Devils and Details”, Police Chief Delaney Reed is still hard at work keeping gods and supernaturals in line, while they vacation in her hometown of Ordinary, Oregon. The town has been under a constant deluge of unseasonable rain, but worse than that, the god powers have all been stolen, a vampire has been murdered by magic, and Delaney’s long-time crush seems to be hiding dangerous secrets. It’s up to her to find the murderer, recover the lost powers, and figure out if it’s safe to trust the gorgeous Ryder with her heart. Action, humor, mystery, and romance, in an urban fantasy setting, this is a very enjoyable read.
Devils and Details
(Ordinary Magic #2)
by Devon Monk
When the gods come to this town of Ordinary, they must leave their powers locked up with one of the gods in charge of this job for that year. Well, somehow, someone steals all the gods powers!
Meanwhile, someone kills a vampire. Delaney, oldest of the cop sisters, is working on her trust issues with her crush. There is also so much craziness happening it is almost non-stop!
Very exciting and entertaining!
I got my copy from chirp when it was on sale.
How can you NOT love Devon Monk! I am a huge fan and have loved every series she writes!!
This is the second in the Ordinary Magic series, and it was just as fantastic as the first one. This time Police Chief of Ordinary, Oregon, Delaney Reed is faced with the murder of a vampire. This is pretty alarming, since it takes a lot to take down a vampire. And she then finds out that all the vacationing god’s powers have been stolen, her long time crush Ryder is keeping secrets that could be very important, and Thor seems to be trying to drown them all with non-stop rain. As she investigates the murder, she uncovers more of the prime vampire,Old Rossi’s past, and begins to see him and some of the other creatures in town in a whole new lights. I really like all of the different characters, and it was nice to learn a bit more about Ryder Bailey, the man Delaney has loved for so long. Some mysteries are answered, but there are more to be solved, which we’ll have to wait to find out about in the next story. I hate the suspense, but I’m sure the next tale will be worth the wait.
This one ends on a cliff hanger, so be prepared by having the next book, Gods and Ends, ready to go.
