The villain isn’t supposed to be king.I have a simple plan.Finish Royal Elite School and get into my dream university. One glance from the school’s king blows my plan up in smoke. One glance and he suffocates my air.One glance and he issues his death sentence. His first words spiral my life into irreparable chaos.“I will destroy you.”Everything about Aiden King is black.Black mind.Black heart.Black … you.”
Everything about Aiden King is black.
Black mind.
Black heart.
Black soul.
I should’ve remained quiet and endured the time I have left.
I didn’t.
I made the irrevocable mistake of provoking the king on his throne.
The devil in his hell.
And now, I’ll pay the price.
Being hated by Aiden King is dangerous.
But being wanted by him is lethal.
Deviant King is book one of Royal Elite Series. This is a dark high school bully romance, mature new adult, and contains dubious situations that some readers might find offensive. Aiden isn’t the normal romance hero. In fact, he’s not a hero at ALL. So please don’t read this if any of that bothers you.
This book is part of a trilogy and is NOT standalone.
The second book, Steel Princess, is available now.more
This is yet another book I started reading because I saw it often on my Goodreads feed and on the TOP 100 Besteller list on Amazon. Sometimes I fear that the books of the moment could disappoint me if I give in and read it, but maybe luck was in my favor this time as well. lol. Anyway, this book was totally worth it and I already picked up the second one (it’s a trilogy) because this one ends with a cliffhanger. And it’s an interesting cliffy, but I suggest you read for yourself and get into the world of the Royal Elite.
This series is set in London, and considering I always read books set in the US (many of the authors I follow are American) this is a great thing because I find very few titles set in the UK. Plus, being a master degree student specializing in English language and especially British English and literature, I loved that it was set in one of the countries I like the most. Being Italian also made it felt closer to where I am, especially because the guys in the series play football and they are Arsenal fans like me.
Like I said, we’re in London, in a prestigious high school, Royal Elite, where the daughters and sons of wealthy people go to study. Basically, this school teaches to the future ministers, businessmen, and so on that will rule the society of the future. The élite. And most the time, rich kids equal to bitches and jerks and snobs who will make other student’s life a nightmare just because they feel entitled to.
When Elsa Quinn transferred to Elite, she was prepared for this. But it was a decision she had to make in order to be able to be accepted at Cambridge once she finishes high school. Elsa knew that it wouldn’t be easy to fit into the school since she’s not as rich as the other kids and she’s not the friendly type, but she didn’t expect that things would turn for the worst on her first day. She was stunned when one of the students gripped her throat as if he wanted to choke her on the spot and promised her that he will destroy her. The guy was Aiden King, and he was king not only by surname but as a matter of fact. And not being in the good graces of the most loved and powerful student of Elite surely isn’t the way to start the school year.
We only have Elsa’s POV in this book. After the first introductory chapter, the story has a two year time jump and she is in her last year of school. We see what happened after Aiden basically made her an outcast for the reminder of her school days. Her classmates and the other students at Elite call her “Frozen”. Not to make a reference to the famous movie, but because Elsa is cold and detached to everyone. She always has a resting bitch face and she never seems fazed by anything and anyone, especially Aiden King and his three closest friends who ignore her. The other people at school simply bully her just because. The only person she talks to and considers her best friend is Kimberly, who is another outcast like her. Out of a sudden Aiden’s behavior turns harsher and Elsa finds herself in dubious situations with him where you just want to get in the book and punch his guts because it borders on sexual harassment. Heck, I consider it sexual harassment, although I don’t know, the author was good at hinting that Aiden would not cross an invisible line and that Elsa wanted to experience sexual experiences with him, although some were rough. The author warned about this and sometimes I wanted to stop reading because of it, but like I said, I could find a spark that made me trust that Aiden only continued because he knew Elsa also wanted to. You can see it in the later chapters because he always has a poker face, but he has an ounce of humanity.
We don’t know Aiden’s thoughts, sadly. We just know what Elsa tells us, and she pictures Aiden as a demon who will get away with murder because he’s not only the wealthiest of them all, the striker of the football team, he is also one of the top 5% students of school, so he’s also smart and a good student. To other people he may look like a golden boy, but he only shows his dark side to Elsa and his closest friends Xander, Cole and Ronan. Aiden was an enigma and a mystery. You never knew what he thought about something and even if he declares himself sincere and direct, he’s good at playing mind games and his words could refer to something else entirely. Aiden is determined and not a patient person. This is why at some point he decides he’s done just glaring at Elsa and he needs to make a move. He’s convinced Elsa likes him because unlike her, he does what he wants and feels more free and he doesn’t regrets the things he does. To him, Elsa is frozen because she is too strict and always follows the rules, and this is why he trusts that she likes him, because he’s what she would like to be. Whenever Elsa is concerned, Aiden knows how to be gentle and kind too, but only with her.
Throughout the book you could feel the tension and the anxiety and the angst between Aiden and Elsa. She tried not to make him win but she also gave in to his wishes (that were also her wishes most of the time). Her composure started to crack the moment she let Aiden into her life, but of course it’s not easy to change from one day to another. Elsa still needs to face the demons from her past and to be more open and learn to trust people. She also needs to figure out if she likes the life she’s living or the decisions she took were influenced by her family and she wants to do something else. I understand that she’s grateful to her aunt and uncle for adopting her, but if she does everything according to how they wish she behaves, she won’t ever be happy.
The same happens with Aiden. He is not a hero, this much is known. He is a bully but only with Elsa, but he’s not completely evil. He’s the type of character you love to hate/hate to love, with a mysterious and interesting mind, you are always surprised by what he does or what he says because he’s unpredictable. If the Aiden at the beginning of the story just wanted to punish Elsa just for existing, the Aiden at the end seems to (at least to me) deeply care for her and although he can’t completely change who he is because he is true to his character, he tries to be better. After all, he’s nice to other people and they don’t believe he’s a bully, Elsa knows how that he is harsh only with her.
I have no idea if everything is going back to square one now that we found out bits about Elsa and Aiden that you couldn’t see coming in the beginning. The author carefully planted the seeds for the final discovery, and I wonder how both parties will react. Their relationship is a bit dysfunctional but everything makes sense once you reach the ending. And you’ll ask yourself more questions and will want to start the second book stat. Well, that’s what I’ll do in a few minutes. lol.
I couldn’t with the intensity of this book! To top it off, even Aiden himself is intense and domineering. He’s calculative ways scares me most of the time. He’s that intense.
There’s a huge mystery surrounding both Aiden and Elsa and I’m downright worried of it!
Rina Kent, like Aiden, had me on grip – hooked, lined and sinker. She wrote both characters so well, you’d be on edge while reading them!
This is legit not your ordinary academy bullymance. The author knows how to play your mind and keep you following wherever her story will lead.
Full of suspense and OTT J/P hero, Deviant King (actually, it’s Aiden himself) probably surpasses all the other heroes I’ve read who’s great with mindfcuking — well, he’s absolutely in Keiran Masters and Damon Torrance’s league!
Oh my, my my! Aiden King is, hands down, one of the biggest, baddest bully there is out there. I swear I was holding my breath every Aiden and Elsa’s encounter. The intensity and sexual tension between these two is off the charts! I can’t. I just can’t.
And oh, the ending just about killed me. Thank god that I don’t have to wait to read the next one. I can’t express how much I love this book. Ugh!!! Read it if you are into unapologetic, to die for, bullies that you will love to hate and equally, hate to love. Love, love, love it!
Elsa is trying to make her way through high school and get to the university of her dreams. Aiden King changes all that when Elsa stands up to him. He is a bully and not any kind of hero but he’s scorchingly sexy. Elsa gives as good as she gets from Aiden and his friends. I need book two like NOW. The cliffhanger ending is a killer.
This is very much an adult book, not high school at all. King’s form of attention is aggressive, borderline abusive and almost sexual assault. He is very much a psychopath and not the romance kind, the true scary kind. Having stated this, I really enjoyed this story and immediately one clicked book two. I disliked everything about the book until the 50% mark but it won me over. I’m glad I stuck with it, as it’s both a dark mystery and addictive. There might be triggers for some readers, fyi.
THIS BOOK! OH MY GOD THIS BOOK!
I found my new obsession.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think about this book is: YESS! THIS IS HOW IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE DONE! The characters, the plot, the chemistry between the MCs… Rina Kent has managed to make all of my wishes about dark bully romances come true.
Elsa is a beautiful, sweet and hardworking girl with a past she has no recollection of, but it still comes back to haunt her. Her only goal for her senior year is to finish it as quickly and quietly as possible so she can move on with her life at Cambridge University. If it wasn’t for a certain King, she would’ve managed that just fine…
Aiden King is the school’s… well, king. Dark, mysterious and handsome, from the very second they meet, he seem set on destroying Elsa’s life without an apparent reason.
Elsa has been dealing with the bullying just fine… but what happens when her tormentor decides to stake his claim?
The chemistry between these two is so dense, you can actually cut it with a knife. You feel it everywhere and it’s overwhelming, but oh so good!
What I love most about this book is the enigma that is Aiden: the entire book is narrated from Elsa’s POV and considering that no one (not even the one he’s closest with) seems to really know him, Aiden remains a mystery throughout the entire book. It’s amazing because he’s so unreadable you never know what to expect from him or what are the reasons behind his actions.
Elsa deserves a big shout out too. She’s such an amazing character! Even thought undeniably attracted to Aiden, she is careful to never forget what their past is and doesn’t cave in immediately to his charm. She’s incredibly smart and that makes the interaction between these two the very best thing about this book.
I should warn you, thought, that this is a trilogy so the book
ends with an hell of a cliffhanger. Definitely worth the wait, thought!
I love the Royal Elite School series! I have been eagerly tearing my way through each release in the series. Aiden is addictively twisted and I love guessing what he’ll do next.
Holy Sh*t!!! I can’t even tell you in words how good this book is!! I mean the angst, drama, lies and secrets. Give me all of it!! Rina killed it with with Aiden and Elsa’s story. Aiden King is one bad hot alpha who rules the school. Everyone bows to him except for Elsa. Elsa just wants to finish school ignore the bullies and get into Cambridge. Everything changes her senior year. Elsa has no memory of her past and parents after she moved in with her aunt and uncle when she was seven. She lives for them and shows her gratitude by being a great student and doing everything to show them her appreciation. Aiden ruined Elsa the first day she started school her freshman year and only has one friend, Kim. Things change when Elsa is no longer Frozen and the four horsemen take interest in her. But is it real? This book had my anxiety at a 10! I needed to know what Aiden has up his sleeve, is Elsa going to believe and fall for any of it. Is she going to let her guard down? What are those nightmares about. Rina had me hook line and sinker with this book from the very beginning and I don’t know how I’m going to wait until December for book 2 because Baby! That cliffhanger was a doozy!!!! This is one of my top reads this year for bully books and is a must read!!
I have absolutely no words! No words to describe what I just read! I thought Cruel King was phenomenal, but Deviant King was beyond it! Rina Kent delivers a show stopping book that left me crying for more!
Aidan King is king of his world. He’s hot as hell, mean as sin, and always gets what he wants. His dark hair, and bad attitude leave you wishing for some attention from him, but the one thing you don’t want is his attention. Aiden King is the devil walking. He holds no prisoners. It’s do what he says or else.
Elsa is a sweet girl with a rocky background. Her parents are dead and her aunt and uncle adopted her. She likes her life and is attending RES to help get her into Cambridge. She meets Kim on the first day and instantly they become friends. She also meets Aiden King when he tells her after just one look that he will destroy her.
OMFG! Does Kent know how to deliver a bully book! I could not and would not have put this book down if my house were on fire. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Each page left me needing more and more. Aiden is one of the best bully characters I have ever read. Elsa is one of the best h I have ever read. She stood her ground and never backed down from Aiden, even after they were dating. Aiden is a possessive asshole to the fullest.
I expected Deviant King to be amazing and it was so much more. Kent took us on a wild ride I wasn’t prepared for. She absolutely blew my mind with this book. Rina Kent has mastered the bully trope and leaves you begging for more after each book.
And now let’s talk about that cliffhanger! I literally could not stop reading and as I got closer and closer to the end I was thinking the wrap up is going to have to be quick, and then bam the end hits and I wanted to throw my kindle across the room. This book has one of the best cliffhangers I’ve ever read.
I absolutely cannot wait to see what Rina Kent gives us with Steel Princess or anything else she decides to write. I am absolutely a Kent fan for life!
This was a great start to this series. Deviant King had a strong plot that packed with many emotions, it’ll leave you on the edge. So much happened between Elsa and Aiden. Elsa was a tough cookie, Aiden wasn’t an easy one to handle. You’re emotions will be all over the place when it comes to him. I thought Elsa was good for him, she brought out a better side.
I’m looking forward to reading more of their story. This was a great story.
Thank you, Rina Kent. Great work 🙂
Wow—what a cliffhanger! I can’t believe it ended so quickly, and I did not think it would be as good as it was…the anticipation of the next book will be really succulent and I can’t wait to find out what happens next!! This book is raw, emotional, interesting, heartwarming, but deliciously addicting. The story has a revenge plot, outlined to make you question everything. Just when you think you have it all figured out, it takes a new turn making you realize just how wrong you were. It literally has you second guessing motives and characters—deep and troubled main and secondary characters until the very end. I was flipping the pages in wonder. Aiden King is arrogant, handsome, and sexy as sin and plays football at the Royal Elite School. The King family is ‘king’ of the school—no one talks back to Aiden, the ‘king’ and he usually gets what he wants. There is no doubt about it, you will want to hate Aiden King, the hell ruler—he infuriated me, but the moment he appears, you will feel your heart palpating so fast because of his voice and predatory strides—he is that HOT! Elsa Quinn is shy, but feisty and new at Royal Elite. She lives with her aunt and uncle, and all she wants to do is finish school and go onto college. There is a mystery behind Elsa’s past. Aiden and Elsa have a unique—love/hate relationship. They push/pull through the entire book making you question everything. Their chemistry is off-the-charts. I wasn’t expecting the turn this story took—it will leave you flabbergasted, but it is jaw-dropping good! Rina Kent you did it! You delivered an addictive, intriguing, bully romance that totally blew me away!
Aiden and Elsa had a passionate and possessive connection that came through in this book. It was intense from the beginning. Great characters and scorching chemistry.
Aiden is a cruel, arrogant and deviant teen. He is alpha male personified. He rules the school with confidence and steel.
Elsa is portrayed as the ice queen to her peers like she is better than everyone else. Really she wears this mask to hide the fact she is barely hanging on.
These two characters are like oil and water but when you mix in desire you have a concoction that is more potent than venom.
This book is the forst in the series we start with torment and bullying and emd on a what now cliffhanger. The book is well written and very detailed oriented.
Never knew which way things were going to go, that’s for sure. I am loving these characters a lot, and hope to read a book about each of them. I usually don’t read books until the whole series is out, because I hate waiting. Darn it, I just had to read this book, but at least it isn’t long til the next two are out. And wouldn’t you know it? One hell of a cliffhanger! Really looking forward to the next book in a few days.
I have just found my newest favorite author, Rina Kent. Deviant King is book one of the Royal Elite by Kent and it is off the charts. High school bullying rocks the pages of this incredible book along with a secret mystery, friendship, sex and rugby! I could not put this book down and I can NOT wait till the release of Steel Princess which thank God is due out on December 12th. 5-stars for Deviant King by Rina Kent.
Elsa Quinn is determined to go to Cambridge and if going to “THE” Royal Elite School gets her there then she will go. Elsa was warned and then threatened on her first day of school by the Elite and they have made good on tormenting her every day that she’s been there for three years. Aiden King is the actual king of the school and Elsa is his main obsession. It is now senior year and Aiden is doing everything he can to push Elsa into a relationship with him. Elsa begins having the nightmares again and Aiden seems to be one of her triggers, but he also seems to be the only one that keeps the nightmares at bay. Elsa’s nightmares are just flashes of the memories she no longer has, and she can’t decipher them. As truths slowly circle the lies being told to her Elsa isn’t sure she can escape the Deviant King and still come out unscathed.
A note from Rina: “If you’re looking for a hero, Aiden is NOT it. If you, however, have been itching for a villain, then by all means, welcome to Aiden King’s world.”
That quote from Rina needs to be in big, flashy light letters because it is 100% true. Aiden is no hero. He is an asshole, he is mean and manipulative, he is dark and possessive, but he is everything I love in the male role. Aiden is by far, my FAVORITE guy out of all of the characters.
Deviant King is not your typical romance. It’s definitely dark, it’s definitely bully, but it’s mysterious as well. Elsa has no memory from the time before she was 7. It’s nothing but a black fog, but as she starts to have nightmares that aren’t nightmares but flashbacks, she starts to wonder what happened to her.
“They say the eyes are the window to the soul, but for Aiden, there’s… nothing. It’s empty in there. A dark, bottomless hole.”
I can’t wait to see what Rina gives us with Steel Princess. Seriously, I can’t wait. I need it right meow. Deviant King was so incredible, I can only imagine how Kent will blow my mind once again.
“Aiden is a deviant. A dangerous deviant.”
WARNING
Aiden King is not a hero. He is a deviant alpha. He is unhinged. Fucked up. Has questionable morals. Pushes and pushes until people snap. He has questionable behaviour and does questionable things but damn if that didn’t make me love him more. Basically he’s a sick fuck!!
Beware, if you aren’t a fan of possessive, over the top alphas- DON’T READ THIS BOOK
Think of all the things that you don’t want in a relationship and a real life partner- THAT IS AIDEN KING
So with that being said let me tell you why i love him so damn much.
“My gaze strays to the main devil. The hell ruler. The black King.”
I love a bully. I loved a fucked up over the top, possessive alpha hero. I love a guy that gives no fucks and goes for what he wants, fuck the consequences.
Aiden is all that and more.
I love a book that keeps me on my toes and I can’t figure out what’s happening, or what’s coming next. By the way, screw you and that ending!! I’m dying!!!
Black mind. Black heart. Black soul.
I love a book that makes me want to throat punch the hero and then drop to my knees to worship him.
Deviant King was all that and more.
If you love Vicious by LJ Shen then you will love Deviant King.
“You could’ve stayed away,Frozen.
But you had to start the war.”
I loved Elsa. She has always been the good girl. Listening to and doing what her uncle and aunt said after a traumatic past. So when she finds herself faced with the deviant that is Aiden King, she hates that she craves his bad. She hates that she becomes addicted to him and the pain he brings her.
Bully romance
Possessive, unpredictable, over the top alpha hero
Mystery and suspense
Dark, gritty and addictive
Having no idea what the fuck is happening
Can’t put the book down
Sexual chemistry and sex scenes are
Triggers
This book is amazing!! This was my first book from this author! It does not disappoint. Elsa and Aiden’s chemistry is off the charts. The story follows Elsa who has been bullied and ignored by her tormenter, Aiden, for the last two years. Suddenly, he is initiating contact and no longer ignoring her. He is pursuing her and pushing her limits.
**This is book one of a series and will have a cliffhanger! It’s so worth it! **
Deviant King by Rina Kent is my first read by this author. I am proudly boasting that it won’t be ever my last by her. DK is a phenomenal story with twitching and gritty secrets, romance, possessiveness and a completely creepy hero. But the best bully out there, who’s an over the top alpha male.
The secrets were so intriguing in this story that it made my eyes glued to the Kindle for more than 5 hours in midnight. I had to sacrifice my sleep to finish this addictive story. God, the chemistry between the main leads was out of the world. It topped all the checklists that I ever made! It is consistent and conventional, unpredictable, nothing too cliche. This man, Aiden, won’t let the heroine go ever, but is it for revenge or something else? He’s completely hooked around her in an obsessive style. It was dark and had extreme triggers, so watch out for them if you’re sensitive. I particularly enjoyed the jealous streak of the hero for our heroine, even with his own friends. Their relationship couldn’t be described in words. It can only be felt.
It was swoony and psychologically twisted. It was a marvelous 5 Star read for me. I was so intrigued by the cliffhanger that it took a whole of 48 hours to get my head straight towards facts. This book is so addictive that you won’t want to live without the characters or their thoughts for more than a minute. I particularly enjoyed the heroine’s dark behavior, she’s scared but unafraid. She’s minimal but lavish. She has a strong spine and doesn’t take shit from Aiden, which makes it all more fruitful. I was glad there were no filthy sex scenes with other men and women. It was like they had eyes for each other only. They were so mad for each other, crazily in awe. This book wrecked me in the best possible ways and I couldn’t thank Rina Kent more for writing such a beguiling book.
I recommend this trilogy to all the bully / enemies to lover trope lovers. One of the best bully romances so far with original content!
I devoured this book! Perhaps it’s a bit more like my soul opened up and sucked the words out of the book! Aiden ticked off all my required boxes for a twisted Alphahole!Except Aiden takes it even farther with his sick demented actions….yet here I am just soaking it all up!
“I see the devil in his eyes, and the first thought is….I want that devil.”
HECK YESSSSS!!! I WANT THAT DEVIL TOO!!!
I’d say that Elsa needs mental help for wanting him after all the things he’d done to her…I can’t though. Because if I could trade places. Let Elsa come be me and I’ll step into the pages of this book …well I don’t have to tell you what I’d do. I’m sure your imagination works just fine.
I can honestly say that although he’s a dark disturbing devil, I felt like Aiden helped Elsa find part of herself that I’m not sure she ever would have found otherwise.
I loved Aiden so much and can’t wait to see what happens in the next one because Kent killed me with that ending.
This book is perfect for those who love the dark and disturbing reads; a great bully romance!! This is part of a 3 book series and ends in a cliffhanger.
