Great Paranormal Book…

This was a great MM shifter story. Totally love the cover extremely sexy that said.
I adore Rick’s daughter she precocious and on the cusp of being a teen.
Dean is your quintessential alpha male and finally Rick I know that not everyone is perfect 100 percent of the time but I think I got whiplash from how quickly his moods changed.
Still worth calling this an awesome book.

There is: a popular alpha wolf shifter (Dean) who is not actively looking for a mate comes into contact with a human omega male detective (Rick) when Rick enrolls his daughter (Emma) into self-defense class & Dean promptly decides to pursue & claim Rick. Troy is Emma’s teacher and Troy asks how she is. Rick is confused at his asking since he sees her in class, so Troy tells him she might be getting bullied at school.
This is 8th book in the Timberwood Cove series about shifters. It’s wolf shifters, omegas and mpreg. When I received the ARC I decided I should read the first book in the series to get some helpful background. While that didn’t help a lot it did allow me to write that this story stands on its own though reading the earlier books would probably be helpful. There are quite a few references to incidents that happened in an earlier book (not sure which one) and for me, that’s super annoying as I’m a bit OCD about reading series in order so I don’t miss out. But it isn’t really critical to this story.
However, you will feel like you’re missing out on info you should know as the human detective discusses his earlier pregnancy etc. Reading the earlier books won’t help you with that. There is very little (in fact I’d say no) world building here. No explanation of the fact that pregnant men and men going into heat is just a thing. That there are pregnancy tests for men. They also refer to girls as having their heat come on (in the case of the MC’s 10-year-old daughter) so evidently humans are now reproductively like animals in this world. Additionally, humans who have no knowledge of the shifter world refer to people as alphas and omegas. It is super annoying that there’s no explanation of all this and it was my major knock on book 1. I’m a strong believer in the idea that if you create a world/universe that differs significantly from the one we live in you need to explain the rules of the game. World/universe building is a true skill and I really admire the authors that do it well. When I read books when it is not done well it makes me appreciate those other authors even more.
The story here is between Dean, the alpha of the Oceanside Pack and Rick, a detective with the Timberwood police force. This small pack has moved into the territory run by Jaxon, the alpha we are familiar with from the previous books. This book begins with a meeting between Dean and Jaxson where fated mates are discussed. Dean of course says he has no interest and he will ignore his fated mate if he should ever scent him. Of course, that guarantees that he scents his fated mate that night in a bar and the challenge is on.
Rick, while human, is aware of shifters as his partner on the force is a shifter (from an earlier book I assume) and was involved in an earlier plot having to do with ridding the town of dragon shifters. Rick has baggage as he was walked out on by the man who got him pregnant with his now 10-year-old daughter. There’s a lot of push-pull as they navigate the relationship. I’ve got to say that. I didn’t much care for Rick. I found him whiny, self-centered and obnoxious. And Dean is just way, way, way too patient and forgiving. I guess that’s supposed to be the whole fated mate thing, but it makes Dean look like a sap to me. How much abuse is he supposed to take? He’s an alpha for god’s sake!
The story arc moves well but there’s not a lot of character development which I found to be true in the earlier books as well. However, I found the story interesting and the subject of bullying was an interesting one for this genre. Having been a teacher for 34 years I found the principal’s reaction to one of the incidents in the book to be pretty much the antithesis of how any school administrator today would react to reports of bullying so that was problematic for me. The way the thing is supposedly dealt with is also so far off the reservation that it’s laughable.
Despite these critiques I still have to say that I found the story entertaining. It’s a quick read and Dean seems like the kind of patient man anyone would want to call their own. And if others aren’t quite as nit-picky as me, I’m sure they will get even more enjoyment out of the book.
*I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my objective review *
Dean, the forever bachelor was thrown into a loop when his fated mate Rick appeared in his life. He didn’t realize he could love someone and give up his bachelor ways for. Rick’s daughter Emma added spunk into the story and fit seamlessly with Dean and his pack. There was a bit too much immaturity from a certain character for me but overall wonderful story and characters.
Detective Daddy is the eighth book in the Timberwood Cove series, by Liam Kingsley. Angst, drama, danger, steam, humor, emotion… a great story. These characters are fun to watch fall in love. Enjoyed this book just like rest of series.
Detective Daddy by author Liam Kingsley is the 8th book in the Timberwood Cove series. I started with this novel and was not lost. However, some of the side characters did not have much meaning to me, and someone who follows the series might find them more interesting.
Dean is Alpha of the Oceanside Pack. It is a tiny pack, and he should expand it. Find a mate for himself and settle down. But that is the last thing on Dean’s mind. He is more of a player, and not looking for his fated mate. He gets a long great with the Alpha of the Timberwood Pack. He is a good-natured person just a little arrogant and self-assured.
Rick is a detective with a sensitive nose for a human. He has a little girl Emma who is being bullied. He takes her to Dean’s Dojo to learn self-defense.
He is against violence, doesn’t trust easily, and is not pack. Can he accept a wolf and an Alpha wolf at that? That is the long-term question.
I really liked this story. Lots of characters to fall in love with, and want more of their stories. I would like to go back and read the books I missed too. I am sure fans of the series will love this book, I know I now have a new series to read and fall in love with.
Five Shooting Stars
Following the same plot as the rest, I am sure this series will keep going but think I am done! Fave character in this reas is Emma which is a bit odd. Would think it would be i should like the MC dean and rick
Wolves & cops & karate, oh my!
Another wonderful book in the Timberwood Cove Series. I have missed this world, and all it’s inhabitants. Our old friends are here. New ones are made. I like the dynamic of the shifters, and the humans who know about them. This book also shows that sometimes, the humans are scarier than the wolves. I loved this book.
Dean is Alpha of the smaller Oceanside pack, and head of his own Dojo. Convinced he will never settle down he makes a bet with his best friend. Too bad he scents his fated mate right after! His human mate is a detective who knows about shifters, his partner is one. But Rick is independent, and fiercely protective of his 11 year old daughter. Too bad he doesn’t want a mate. When circumstances at her school finds Rick enrolling Emma into Dean’s karate class, they can no longer avoid each other. Dean must prove to Rick that he will protect Emma at all costs. When danger rears its ugly head, their love will be tested. Rick must overcome his fears, & Dean finds hidden patience. HEA is assured, never fear. You will love this book!
Trigger: this book contains incidents of bullying. It shows how some people will turn a blind eye, how easy it is to just go with the crowd, and how important it is to stand up and do what is right. I do not think anyone will be offended.
This book can stand alone, but it is best enjoyed of you have read the other books in the series. It will be time well spent.
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
In my experience, sometimes in multi-book series, the topics start being somewhat predictably, so finding this captivating story when I reached book 8 in the series was refreshing. Involving another pack and another fated mate with a really entertaining backstory, well written characters and the topic of bullies emphasizing the importance of friends and a circle of support was the cleaver recipe for a wonderful reading. I can’t wait to discover what is next in this series after the way this book ended.
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
I absolutely love reading the stories of the Timberwood Cove Shifters and now the Oceanside Shifter packs. Each character brings you into their lives and you cant help to feel for them all individually as you learn about their lives and their loves lost. As the story unfolds, you are woven into the fabric of the story and you laugh and cry with their struggles and their triumphs. You wont be disappointed with any story written by Liam Kingsley. He is a master story teller who draws you in from page one till the very end of the story, but then realise that there is more to the story and you need to read the next book. Well worth investing in the time it takes to unfold each and every tale that is told.
Dean Hardwick is the alpha of the Oceanside pack and he is a player. He meets up with Jaxon and they are talking about fated mates, Jaxon tells him that he will meet his fated mate and his life will change. Dean bets his Triumph bike that he wont meet his mate and change his ways. He meets up with some of his pack in a local bar that they frequent and is making out with a random omega and then suddenly smells his mate. He walks up to him and introduces himself to him and learns that his mate is Detective Rick Patton, a police officer from Timberwood Cove.
Rick is a single father to Emma who is eleven years old. His best friend Troy has told him that she is being bullied at school. Troy is her homeroom teacher and he is concerned about her. Rick tells him that he will take care of her training to protect herself, but when he is called to the school one day after she has been bullied and has a split lip, Rick tells her that she can take karate lessons. When he takes her to the dojo, he learns that Dean is the sensei there.
When Dean learns that Emma is being bullied, he encourages her to keep practicing at home and encourages her to take an extra class during the week. Rick and Dean take Emma to the ice-cream parlor for a treat. They start a bumpy relationship which Rick wants to take slowly. Dean is happy to do this but one night after a date, they end up making love and Rick is in heat and Dean forgets to use a condom and Rick gets pregnant, which Dean knew would happen. Rick seems to have a problem making a commitment with Dean due to him being a shifter and Rick being human. Emma’s father took off when Rick was pregnant and so he thinks that Dean will do the same.
They have to deal with the bullies at Emma’s school and then when Dean has to go to the school for Emma because her dad cant be contacted, Emma tells the headmaster that Dean is her dad. Emma had given the bully a blood nose and she was facing expulsion from school. Dean was not having anything to do with that and then Rick shows up and Troy also and they convince the headmaster that he needs to look up reports about Emma being bullied. A meeting is called for the parents and Mr Peters, who is the father of the main culprit threatens Dean. Rick senses that there is trouble coming and tells Dean that he needs a break from him and then turns his back on him and refuses to have anything to do with him.
A fight breaks out at the bar and the bully’s father is the one who starts it by threatening Dean and his family and Rick and Emma. There is a break in at Dean’s mothers place and while he is investigating that, someone breaks into Ricks house and starts taking Emma out her window. Rick fights him and pulls his gun on the intruder, it is Mr Peters. Rick ends up shooting him and Dean races to see if his family are safe.
Eventually Rick pulls his head out of his butt and listens to his mother and realises that Dean is important to him and he cant live without him and he then goes to beg Dean’s forgiveness and they then go through the claiming ceremony where Rick accepts the claiming bite and Emma is also claimed as Dean’s daughter. They live their lives learning to adjust and are happy living their life together and then their baby arrives. While in the hospital after their baby boy is delivered, Troy bursts into the room telling Rick that he has done a bad thing and is now pregnant to a one night stand. Sawyer, who is a friend of Dean enters the room after Troy has left and tells them that he can smell his fated mate. We now have to wait to read their story.

Who is Dean? Where is Timberwood Cove? Who is Jaxon Parsons and why is Dean meeting up with him? What bet do they make during their lunch conversation that made me giggle? Who are Rick and Tory? What is happening with Emma at school that has Rick and Troy concerned? Why does Emma end up at the dojo? Who owns and runs it? There are some very tense moments, moments that made me want to cry, and one heck of an HEA! Enjoy the read!
