Destined to save more than just his heartThe High DragonThe moment Jaspyr, High Dragon of the y Draig clan, met Avyla he knew she was fated to be his mate. He sensed the magic within her and recognized that she was destined to be his salvation. She would be both his eternal love and guardian of his humanity.A kind apothecaryBut the meek yet strong-willed woman harbored doubt that a commoner such … strong-willed woman harbored doubt that a commoner such as she could be with, much less love, such a powerful man. Avyla did not know of the magic within her and had never experienced true love before. Though it may have been her destiny, Avyla’s heart was hesitant.
Danger from within
Not all dragons find their mates, which leaves Jaspyr and the others of his clan with the task of hunting them down once their humanity vanishes. When one of his clan falls to the insanity shortly after Avyla’s arrival, a battle wages that not only endangers the draconic shifters and their mates, but also produces a crucible where the bonds of love are tested and forged.

Destined for the Dragon (Ballads of Cadarnle, #3) was a good read by A.J. Ryder. Jasper is the High Dragon of the y Draig Clan. When he met Avila, he knew immediately she was his mate. He sensed the magic within her although she didn’t. I really enjoyed this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
This book had so much going for it. The backstory was so complete that you could have been living in this work with them. They had the advantage of Jaspyr’s mother to help them easy into their instant bond. It was amazing how Avyla had a underlying power that the dragon clan didn’t have and had never had.
The Dragon & His Treasure! Great Story! Great Audible Listen 4.5 Stars
Destined for the Dragon
Ballads of Cadarnle, Book 3
By: AJ Ryder
Narrated by: Curt Bonnem
I adored this book, it is original, well written and engrossed me from start to end. AJ Ryder created a fascinating world with imaginative & interesting creatures and storylines. The characters were nicely developed, I enjoyed learning more about each, as well as the clans dynamics as the story went on. Jaspyr, the leader, finally meets his mate, Avyla, who is a darling. I was not sure about Jaspry at first but he turned out to be a really nice guy or should I say dragon. The secondary characters were all great and added a lot to the story too. This is my first AJ Ryder book and I enjoyed this as a stand alone. There is a glossary in the back of the Kindle book that is very helpful, it gives descriptions of the locations, character races and their Deities mentioned in the book. I highly recommend this action-packed, drama filled story.
I listened to the Audible edition, Curt Bonnem is an amazing narrator and storyteller. He performed the voices of all the characters, gave each their own unique sound. Did a wonderful job on accents and added the right amount of dramatic flair to the story. Thanks for the great & entertaining listen.

Jaspyr is the High Dragon and is now 36 yrs of age. He came into his title when his father was killed when he was 15. He has been waiting desperately for his mate since he was 18. He has till his 100th birthday to find his mate but doesn;t want to wait that long. One night while in his treasure room letting off his frustration, a young female healer, Avyla, is on the road to use her apothecary abilities to help those in need. She gets lost and in the storm searches for a place to stay till the storm passes. She enters a cave and her pet racoon goes for a walk and in searching for Baxter she trips and as her hand hits the cave wall it glows blue and she falls through into the room where Jaspyr is. When he first sees her he mistakes her for a thief and scares her. When she explains how she came to be there he suddenly realizes that she has magic and she;s a virgin and she’s his mate!!! He;s found her! He;s scared her out of her wits!! She tries to leave and he blocks her path. Then as Avyla is screaming, his mother shows up and berates him for his despicable actions. From this point on not only does Jaspyr have to convince Avyla that he isn;t demented, but he also needs to court her. Along with that is the danger of a mad dragon intent on taking out his frustration for not finding his mate.
This story will keep you enthralled and will have you holding your breathe as each scene evolves.
Fantastic story and read.

This story is set in a world where dragons must find their soulmates before they turn 100 years old.
Jaspyr is still young but still feel like he might never find his soulmate. Enter Avyla, a wondering apothecary. She stumbles into his hoarde and things get off on the wrong foot as Jaspyr attacks her, thinking her a thief.
From that point on it is all about Jaspyr redeeming himself to Avyla. As she learns about dragons and their culture, she need to find her place in this world. Though they encounter some conflict almost all the story is centered around Jaspyr and Avyla finding their way to each other. It has a very satisfying ending and does contain some action for those that want it.

This book was a bit slow to begin with. But, once we got past the awkward meeting between the two MCs, it really did roll. I loved Jaspyr’s mother, Jocelyn. She really helped Avyla understand what she was feeling and how she fit into the family. Once Jaspyr found her, he literally became a different person. He was fun and caring and always had time for Avyla. This is the first book I’ve read from this series and I really enjoyed it. I volunteered to read an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
This was a great, easy read!! I always enjoy a good dragon story and this one didn’t disappoint. This was my first book by this author but it definitely won’t be the last.
Jaspyr is one of the lucky ones to have found his mate. But the unlucky male dragons who don’t find their mate before their 100th year, succumb to a madness so powerful and vindictive, it’s terrifying! An interesting story mixed into the romance and danger. I enjoyed reading this!

Book three in the Ballads of Cadarnle is a well-written story I had to know how it would end. There is danger, drama, suspense, an evil dragon, it is Jaspyr, High Dragon of the y Draig clan and Healer, commoner Avyla’s story. I am going back to read this series again at a later date. I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I absolutely loved this story about Avyla and Jaspyr. Avyla if an Apothecary who happens to travel around the area of Cadarnle. Then one stormy night she and her pet raccoon, Baxter, take a different road and become lost. Upon finding a cave for shelter, Avyla and Baxter find a mysterious ways that glowed when she touched it and feel thru, landing in a treasure room, with a dragon and he’s claims she is his mate. Jaspyr is the High Dragon of his clan. He is desperately looking for his mate when Avyla lands in his treasure cave. She is freaking out and he is overwhelming her. Follow the two of them as they learn how to be together and what it means to be mates, and to have the strong bond that connects then even before they actually joined. See their love grow when their lives see threatened and that if the clan. Watch as Avyla finds her special magic to heal others with it without her herbs. I loved the heat and chemistry between the two. Lots of action and finding each other.

Jaspyr is the embodiment of what one thinks of a traditional dragon.
The mix of characters created a “cast” that a story full of multiple lives coming together, including one protective pet.
This was a good read that not only included the lives and romance of the main characters but also the lives of the surrounding people.
This has a well-written and executed plot.

At the age of 15, Jaspyr y Draig, had inherited his father’s land, wealth, and position of High Dragon among the clan. Upon his mother’s insistence he waited until he was 18 to start the hunt for his mate. Now at 36, Jaspyr is still hunting for her. Young in human years but in dragon years it was 18yrs into the countdown to losing his humanity altogether. You see, a dragon must find his true fated mate before he turns 100 or he will revert to full dragon form never able to return to his former human self and must be destroyed by his clansman.
It was a genuine desire to help those in need that caused Avyla Enaid to become a travelling apothecary. During one such trip she was caught in a torrential rainstorm with no cover until finding a cave.
This is just such a cool series!!! A. J. Ryder has now introduced us to the dragons in this magical land giving us a bit of history, tradition, fear, laughter, hate and love. If you’re a dragon fan, then you’ll understand when I say the full extent of love and protectiveness of the species comes to light. If you have never read about a dragon and what they’re capable of when they find their mate, grab your drink and settle down because you won’t want to leave until you finish this tale.
LOVED it!
I liked the story but felt it could have been a lot shorter. They found each other right away in the story and I really enjoyed their meet cute. The beginning had the romance then there was drama at the end with a different story line. Could have had this in a different book was my feeling. Just didn’t seem connected and made the hero look weak. Great epilogue though. The narrator did not do the women’s voices well, found it made them sound weak and whiney. But otherwise he performed the rest of the story well.
