Desperate Choices is the first book in the Bad Karma Special Ops series and is a fantastic start to this new series.
The characters are well developed, likable, and realistic. The storyline is well written and engaged my interest from beginning to end, with murder, drug smuggling, danger, suspense, intrigue, and a second chance for romance.
I loved this romantic suspense story and cannot wait for the next one in the series.

Stephanie’s husband was killed outside her place of employment and when two detectives come to her home wanting information it is her brothers friends across the street who comes to her rescue. They later find out that the two men were not detectives but part of a drug smuggling operation that has been run out of the car lot where she works and now they are after her. Ray has always had a crush on her but her brother told him years ago not to mess with his sister but he is older now and knows he can no longer stay away when someone is after her and her little girl. Loved the chemistry between Stephanie and Ray and how he protects her and her daughter. Wonderful book.

Book one but also the prequel novella to Bad Karma Special Ops series. This is widow Stephanie Laakso Anderson and Sergeant Ray Lundgren’s story. There is suspense, murder, drama, danger, twists, turns, villains, a second chance, and romance. I want to read the next book. This is a new Author to me. I thought this was a super read I picked it to read for half an hour and was hooked I ended up reading Ray and Stephanie’s book in one sitting. These two have known each other for years as he was her brother’s best friend she always had a crush on him but when he left for the military she puy it behind her and married and had a child but her husband is killed leaving her with a small child. When things start to not add up she turns to Ray for held. This was a really good book I am looking forward to reading more.
This is the first time in reading this author with the special ops in title caught my attention. The story itself was more than I expected with this being a gem of a find. I adore drama and romance with second chances as icing. The alpha in this one that drives our hormones is Ray who is also Elite Soldier which will be just what is needed also. Stephanie and her daughter could not have needed anyone finer too. As this unfolds things unexpected do come out. At times I seemed to be hanging on by a thread. By the time all was said and done this author got a new reader.
Stephanie becomes a widow and single mother when he husband is murdered. Ray, her brother’s best friend, their old neighbor, is home on leave from the Army, and gives her a hand one day. She’s in danger, and he’s going to do his best to help his old crush. This story takes off, and the action never stops. Ray and Stephanie seem like genuinely nice people; she’s stuck in a bad situation, and he’s the good guy who’s gonna help her out. I like that even when he’s nervous about her daughter, he falls right in when it comes to helping out. And Alexis apparently has good instincts, knowing that Ray can be trusted. It’s cute that he told his CO a little white lie (fiancee) to get more time off with her. I love how they’re planning to kick her brother’s butt for declaring her off limits years ago. This is a great start to this new series.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
This novella was a really good prequel to a new series, Bad Karma Special Ops. It’s well-written and quick to read, the storyline is fast-paced and flowed well. I really liked both main characters, I liked their backstory and how their romance bloomed. Loved Ray’s interaction with little Alexis.
A short and simple story about choosing to do the right thing. Stephanie is a single mom who has recently lost her husband. Ray is the one who got away and is now coming to her rescue. It is an endearing story about getting a second chance to fall in love and fulfill your dreams.
A page-turner from start to finish. Desperate Choices will ratchet your worry for Stephanie and Ray, while keeping you vastly entertained. A fantastic debut. I found another one-click-buy author!
Stephanie Anderson is a single mom struggling to raise her daughter after her husband was murdered eight months ago. She sometimes worked late at the car dealership where she worked to get caught up. Unknowingly she witnessed a guy getting something out of a car on the lot and told her boss. Now she has two men who call themselves detectives asking her to come to the police station with her. She sees her longtime crush Ray at his truck across the street and hoping that things she says to him will let him know she needs help. Ray is home for a week’s leave from his last deployment. When he realizes something isn’t right, he is there to help but will he be able to keep her and the baby safe. I received an advance review copy and this is my honest review.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Ray and Stephanie had the hots for each other for years, but live is what happens when you’re not looking. So when widowed Stephanie seeks his help he’ll do it. Unfortunately, the story is a little boring – it’s back and forth and the only thing that happens is nearly at the end. It took me a lot of breath to read through the whole book.
Exciting introduction to an intriguing military romance series
Desperate Choices (Bad Karma Special Ops Prequel Novella) by Tracy Brody is a well written military suspense that introduces the reader to two wonderful characters that are meant to be an anchor for the series and all the character leads to follow.
Ray, home on a brief leave after a long tour in Iraq, never thought he would have the chance to connect with his best friends sister. Fate, in true dramatic and traumatic form, provides the perfect opportunity. Stephanie recently lost her husband, and the murder is still unsolved. After several months, Stephanie has now become a target and Ray is determined to protect her and her toddler daughter.
Through the danger Stephanie and Ray reconnect as friends and quickly reveal they both had wanted so much more, even long ago.
Overall, a well written romantic suspense with Ray’s military training an important feature. When all is said and done, these two get their HEA and persevere through the heartache to endure, letting their love heal the hurt.
I read an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and voluntarily share my review.
Desperate Choices was the first book that I have read by this author. It was a well written book with endearing characters. Ray and Stephanie were good characters with great chemistry. The only thing that kept this from being a five star read was I felt like Ray wasn’t a strong male lead. Other than that it was a good read and I would recommend it.

Stephanie is between a rock and a hard place. She is a single mother raising a daughter and the people who murdered her husband are now after her. She has no one to help her but her brother’s best friend Ra who is home on leave. Ray was told to stay away from Stephanie when they were younger but now all bets are off. Stephanie is in danger and Ray will stop at nothing to keep her and her daughter safe but can he do it before they get to her? This thrilling suspense will have you on the edge of your seats.

First time reading this author and it was really good. Friends when they were young and his best friend was her brother. Now she’s a widow when her husband was murdered. He’s home on leave when trouble comes to find her and her little girl. Lots of action, danger, heat and heartache. HEA.
