The opening chapter grabs the reader and offers immediate insight into the kind of character Tamara is. Her methodical chipping away at the family she sets out to destroy provides more clues. BUT … the pacing is slow. Like a lot of domestic “thrillers,” it seems to take forever for anything major to happen. Dom, the main character’s husband, seems too dumb to run a successful business. Maybe horny is a better descriptor. There are several incidents–especially the main character’s escape from a psych ward that never feel realistic. But … the motivation for the story contains a grain of reality–though why killers kill does not always have to make sense to anyone but them. Easy to read. The author understands the tropes and her audience. A satisfying read after a long day’s work because no deep examination is required.
Deserve To Die is about a woman with a methodical plan. She has systematically orchestrated a plan to destroy the perfect life that Dom and Stacey have built for themselves. She strips them of their control taking them into the deepest parts of hell.
Tamara’s character is a woman on a mission by getting close to Dom. Tamara infiltrates herself into Dom’s work place then slowly worms her way into His personal life.
I know this is not an investigative story, but I can’t help wondering how Tamara gets away with what she did. Investigators would know from the timeline of death that the suicide note left on the laptop would have a time stamp.
Operation destroy Stacey’s life left so many unanswered questions regarding Dom’s character. For one Abandoning his wife so easily. “I have spent a lot of time with this woman.” This sentence pisses me off. Dom defends Tamara a woman he’s known for a short period of time yet his wife of ten years he quickly doubts her. It’s sad and disheartening that Dom doesn’t defend his own wife.
This book is Definitely better than Roses are Red. Yet this book followed a similar template as that book. A family with 2 kids the wife who used to work with the husband but stays home and writes children’s books. The other book that character liked to swim this one a kid has a water phobia. Peanut allergy in one and salmon allergy in this one.
It seems implausible that these characters would blabber personal information about their spouses to co-workers. It’s inappropriate and unprofessional.
Build-up took too long
I really found it difficult to keep reading the first half of this story. So much unexplained mayhem and issues with the villain. She’s a femme fatale who throws money around for expensive things and to cozy up to her new boss yet she says she has no money. Which is it?! Her witchy moves were distressing and made me reluctant to continue reading about the train wreck she is orchestrating.
This was the third novel I’ve read by this author. All three books focus on a woman who is bullied, manipulated and psychologically tortured until, finally, she fights back. The villains seem irredeemable psychopaths. This one especially was a bit too twisted for me.
Thanks to Inkubator Books and NetGalley for providing a complimentary copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This was my first time reading a book by this author and I was thrilled at what a wonderful job she did. This book was an awesome find and read. If you love a great psychological thriller then you have read Miranda Rijks books. You won’t be sorry.
4 stars
This book was really good. It started a little slow but picked up quickly. I love the back and forth chapters from the 2 women. Loved the characters except Dom, what an idiot! Can’t wait to read more from this author.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my free copy.
This is a psychological thriller that from the opening chapter managed to set the stage and pull me straight into the given narrative capturing my attention and compelling me to keep heading forward.
Deserve To Die was told alternately from two POV’s: Tamara and Stacey and Straight from the onset, it’s understood just who the preditor here actually is, we know the who but not the why this is kept a complete mystery for us to discover alongside Stacey herself.
and as we methodically run through Tamara’s to-do list alongside her as she gradually moves towards her mysterious end-game I felt completely on edge and in fear for poor Stacey and her potential fate.
I so wanted Stacey to realise just what was unfolding around her and her unsuspecting family and I was just so upset that her husband Dom had so little faith in his wife and was just such easy prey for Tamara to reel in and play with.
I get that the evidence was stacking up against Stacey and it didn’t look good but I wanted him to just have a little faith in the woman he professed to love.
Dom was at heart a good man but I do think he was a weak man and very easily manipulated there is no way I could be as forgiving as his poor wife.
Yes, Tamara was good at what she did managing to systematically dismantle their life brick by brick but you can’t destroy what refuses to be broken now, can you?
I enjoyed this a lot but I did find the ending a tad rushed and slightly anticlimactic after all the previous build-up things here things just withered away slightly and there was not enough closure for me.
Also, it’s been several days since I finished this and I am still quietly seething away.
I know its fiction but what I ultimately need here is some bloody good grovelling from Dom to excuse his blatant disloyalty and sheer stupidity other than that I’m all grand.
This was a fast-paced easy read that wasn’t incredibly complicated in terms of its plot but was still a major pageturner.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Deserve To Die.

Stunning psychological thriller that grabs you from the very beginning and builds and builds until the very end where the final reveal is had. Very well written with no slow spots. The most scary part is that this is entirely plausible and could happen to any of us. Yikes!
This is my first book by this author, Miranda Rijks and definitely won’t be my last! This book is a can’t put down domestic suspense thriller. I loved everything about the book, and couldn’t put it down until the climax ending! Definitely a must read. Definitely a 5 Star book!
In Deserve to Die, Stacey is happily married, two kids and a career she loves. Tamara is out to change that. But why? This was a good read and good story plot. I did think that parts of the story happened to quickly, but it was still a good read. It is set in England, so there is a lot of English terminology. This was the first book of Miranda Rijks’ that I’ve read, but I can’t wait to read more of her work!
