I grew up in the dark.Right and wrong? In my world, it was kill or be killed.I spend my time in the shadows; doing what I want, when I want. I refuse to follow anyone’s rules—I own this town. They might not see me, but my club controls everything… including her. I took Daddy’s little princess and defiled her to send a message. Now, I want to keep her down here in the dirt forever. She’s crazy not … her down here in the dirt forever.
She’s crazy not to run.
Around here, there’s no right or wrong. I’m the judge, jury, and executioner and god help any fool who tries to lay a hand on what’s mine.
If you’re looking for a hero, you’re in the wrong place.

I don’t know what this author’s experience is with motorcycle clubs, but she got it right. They live by a code that normal people cannot understand. Their definition of justice is often dealt with raw violence and Ms. Myers depicts that perfectly in this book. Jamie Quinn didn’t stand a chance in hell for any kind of a decent life. His father made sure of that. And when he finally got rid of the monster he called Dad, he felt no remorse. In fact, quite the opposite. But his father had introduced him to the Silent Phoenix motorcycle club. And when there was no other place to turn, Jamie turned to the club. Before long, he earned a reputation that no one dared challenge. He could kill without any remorse…and he did. Celia was seventeen, a straight-A student, growing up in a wealthy country-club family. But her father had a drug habit and it cost Celia everything. When the MC took Celia to pay her father’s debt to the club, her entire world came undone. And while the big biker took her virginity, she found herself strangely attracted to him. She saw kindness in his eyes. And Jamie couldn’t get Celia out of his mind no matter what he tried. But she was just a kid. A kid that wound up pregnant with his child. This story is fast-paced, violent, raw, and gritty. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Then came the ending and I literally gasped. Do not expect a resolution in this story. It ends with a gut-wrenching cliffhanger. I am invested in these characters, so I have no choice but to get the next segment of Silent Phoenix MC. If you are not squeamish about violence, rape, profanity, and drugs, you will love this story! The only reason I am not giving this book five stars is because of the ending. I needed a resolution and felt cheated.
Deserter by Shannon Myers a five-star read that won’t ever leave you. This is the third novel in the Silent Phoenix series and it’s the best in the series in my eyes. This review has taken me days to write it, every time I tried, I just kept sobbing now I just have chills. it’s so well written that you wont ever forget this story. Its heart-breaking but its also beautiful and compelling and needs the next part of the story to hurry along as I need more Celia in my life. This is a story that will bring every emotion out of you, it will surprise you with how much you will feel.
Wow. This will suck you in, twist you around, and leave you absolutely reeling. Be ready to instantly get the second book because the intensity doesn’t stop or get resolved at the end of this one. Simply amazing, but beware, this has some majorly tough scenes to it.
My words will not do this book justice. I was drawn in from the first word till the last. Jamie and Celia’s story brings all the feels and leaves you wanting more. This is book one in a two book series. You will also need to keep the tissues handy.
Favorite quote: Celia ~ “I was Icarus and Jamie was the sun. I’d known what it would cost me, yet I’d chased after him anyway. I’d flown too high, convinced that he’d never let anything happen to me; certain that I’d never come back down to earth. But I had.”
Hands down my favorite book of 2019!
Stop whatever the f@€k you’re doing and read this series now! This isn’t a standalone; you should start with Renegade and Traitor (Mike & Lauren’s books) as it sets up Deserter where we meet Jamie “Grey” Quinn and Celia Cross. You won’t regret it- trust me!
I don’t have words to convey how my heart and mind are feeling right now. My chest is still beating fast. I need answers, need to know what happens next. I thought I had an idea of where this story was going, but Mrs. Myers did an amazing job keeping us on our toes.
Grey and Celia’s story is full of deceit, betrayal, love, lies, sacrifices, flawed characters, gut-wrenching moments and so much more. I cried, cringed, swooned, laughed and loved these characters so much. I’m telling you, this series is EVERYTHING! I need Protector now! Is it June yet?
#GreedyForGrey
I loved this book from a new to me author. Her MC world sucked me in from the first page until the end and can’t wait to see what’s in store next for Grey and Celia. Word of warning this book ends in a cliffhanger, but it’s so worth the read and now the wait to see what happens next. Grey’s life in the beginning was not an easy one and when he ends up being the Prez of the Silent Pheonix MC he lives for his club and only his club. That all changes though when he meets Celia, who was supposed to be a simple meeting and then out of his life forever. But the best laid plans don’t always work out that simply. Grey and Celia end up on a twisting, turning and unpredictable story that hasn’t fully been told even by the end of the book.
This is not the book or series you want to read if you are looking for happily ever after. If you want a story that sucks you down into it’s depths, messes with your head, feeds you some incredible writing, mythology tie-ins, and some comic book references and then rips your heart out of your chest – this is the one for you.
I said all the cuss words, and I knew what was coming. I KNEW – and it still wrecked me. In the best way. Because I know that Celia and Jamie and their deep, real characters get two more books and that every character from the other books in the series (as well as the Operation duo) get more time to tell their stories.
It’s a romance, but not a happy one; at least not most of the time. This world is dark, and dirty but full of life and drama.
You want to read this – but start with Renegade and Traitor first.
Good characters, good story. Took a really long time for the set up, though. And it leaves off in a cliffhanger. If the next book is on KU, then I’ll read it. Otherwise, no.
I never thought I would like this book. After reading the first two I was not a fan of Grey. I hated him. Then I was stuck. I was sucked in and I loved this book. Well, loved it but still not Grey. Grey and Celia’s story isn’t this beautiful story of how they met. Their life wasn’t this happy story to tell. Grey was never the man she wanted him to be and then he was gone. The end of this story was so vicious and heartbreaking. Talk about a cliffhanger! If you can’t handle rape and violence this is not for you.
I wrote this review based on an advance reading copy that the publisher sent me.
This is the third book in this awesome series, and in my opinion, this series needs to be read in order. This is Grey and Celia’s story, and what an emotional roller coaster their journey is. This is a well written story which is raw, gritty and filled with deceit, betrayal, lies, emotion, humour, and love. I was hooked and intrigued throughout this spine tingling masterpiece, which is an addictive page turner. I cannot wait to read the next book in this thrilling series, and recommend for all MC lovers.
