Mark and Claire Mitchell are the couple next door. They shop at Target, are staunch members of their kids’ PTA. Both educated and well rounded people.“Choke me.”A simple request by his wife, in hopes of spicing up their predictable (and almost nonexistent) sex life, sets them at the feet of self discovery and transformation. Their new found hobbies end up preparing them for the unexpected.
Desecrating Eden is a short story about a couple who got busy with life and illnesses and work, and sort of grew apart. They realized they needed to reconnect and they chose to do it by adding some BDSM into their sex life. Whoa – talk about some hot sex scenes, and this takes up the majority of the book. They not only reconnected sexually, but intellectually as well. The way they did things would not work for everyone, but it seemed to work well for them. The husband also had to grow and become more hands on once Claire became sick. I will be thinking about this book for a while because there were a lot of things happening, and I am sure I will be thinking and analyzing and figuring out more about this book for months to come. If you are looking for a short read with plenty of sexy times and don’t mind BDSM, then this is a book for you.
This was a quick easy read. Mark and Claire’s marriage had been in not such a great place. They slowly take their vanilla relationship and open the doors to some role playing. Claire was the backbone to the family and always picking up the loose ends. When Claire finds out she’s very sick, Mark steps in to take over as bread winner. He goes to Claire’s medical appointments, works from home and supports his family inside and out.
I enjoyed this short read. I had a feeling something was wrong with Claire in the story from the beginning. I assumed that she might of been pregnant. I would of never guessed that it was ovarian cancer. I was glad to see it have a happy ending.
This was an interesting story that probably happens more often than not. I found this book to be on the short side and a little choppy at times.
This was a nice read as Mark and Claire found their way back to each other. Mark struggled with his image and self-esteem because of his depression and the fact that his wife was had an affair. But in the end it brought them together and made them work to make their marriage work for they didn’t want to give up. I disliked that there wasn’t more to the story at some parts where it was focused more on there sex and I know that was there way of connecting but some parts well went on too long. I guess I wanted more than steaming scenes and so this book wasn’t my favorite but it was well written.
Mark and Claire went through life struggles to find what clicks with them. Then life slaps you in the face. This one is a real life struggles we all try to find an answer too.
This story was a fast one. It started out slow but got better. The characters have a basic life. They both work and they have kids. Just one thing they dont have, a spicy sex life. This takes us on their journey of them finding themselves again.
This Author has a way of creating a unique story in beautifully written prose that makes you “feel”. This one is not for the faint at heart, it is deep, meaningful and will leave you hurting. The only complaint that I would have is they are too short and I feel like I am missing part of the story. I will definitely be reading more from Christopher Donaho.
Really fast paced. Switches from one extreme to the next quickly. Just when it seemed to be picking up there was a new loop threw at you. Was easy to follow. Just a lot in a little book
The book was interesting because it was a mix of narrative and erotica, with the most heartfelt parts being the husband’s honest self-deprivation. A married couple works itself out of a slump by trying some new things in the bedroom, but some important points are glossed over in my opinion (though it’s a short story, so that might be why). The book was good but could have been great if I felt more for the characters, which felt somewhat flat.
This book started slow, but I think that was very intentional. Mark was insecure and anxious, convinced he wasn’t good enough for his wife, his job, or his kids. Once he and his wife Claire got into kink, Mark began to grow in confidence, and his dominance over Claire during scenes was hot. Sometimes I worried that they were moving too fast without really knowing what they were doing, but even that made the story seem more true to life. Don’t we all jump into things too fast at times? Then, when Mark was called on to be strong for his family, he never hesitated. For me, what started out as a fun and sexy story turned into an emotional tale that brought me to tears. I enjoyed this story and feel that it will stay with me for quite some time.
This book and potential, but I felt there was a lot missing. Mark and Claire were somewhat interesting, but I felt they were rather one dimensional. I didn’t feel the heat and the passion others have. This just didn’t connect with me. Overall, just OK read.
This is my second book by this author and I have to say that his books keeps getting better and better. I would love to read a full length novel by him instead of these short stories but either one I believe I would love it. Fantastic read and highly recommended.
This read was not only erotic but real. A couple, parents to two kids and finding it boring in the bedroom. Well they sure do wake it up. Ladies, my man got lucky while I was reading this book. It was hot, hot, hot!!! Towards the end there was a twist that kept things real, and it was raw and emotional.
4.5 Stars. I knew this was a short story when I started it on KU, but I’m going to be thinking about it for a long time. It starts out rather flowery and mundane. Even as the protagonist was saying he was boring and so was his stable marriage, I agreed with him. Lol. Then, bam, the hits started and didn’t let up. Some super hawt bdsm scenes – both good and bad, lots of emotional focus and discussion, reconnection as a couple both in and out of the bedroom, all while raising a family and learning to heal and grow. Then the twist. I wish Mark had been able to handle Claire’s last request in the book better, but this book was definitely more real life than most in showing the characters weren’t always perfect and up to every task.
Clair and Mark’s simple marriage is changed when Clair almost commits adultry. It leads them into a world where they try to spice things up by delving into bdsm…. they work things out and have found a new connection when tragedy strikes.
A 3.5 strange book. Had some interesting themes and story plots but didnt seem to follow through with them. I know this was a short story but it really had the potential to be so much more. Each chapter seemed like plot ideas but very little meat on the bones around it to enrich it to a full story. And no spoilers but the ending ends without a fulfilling conclusion as you are left wondering what happens.
This is a pretty good short story. It’s starts with a wimpy disconnected possibly suicidal husband and a dominant take charge wife. They are both dissatisfied with life and start researching BDSM to spice up their lives. This book chronicles their exploits and life after discovering something new. A warning, the female likes to be hurt and the male likes to hurt her. It is consensual but if this isn’t your thing…don’t read the book.
This short erotic story is seriously wow! A couple is down on their luck in the bedroom area so they look into spicing things up!
