This is my first read by this author thanks to ‘Quirky Blind Date with a Book’. I love paranormal but I’ve had a break for a while as I was burnt out. This was a great comeback for me, a YA not too heavy and a fun read.
There were typos and some grammar issues but my review is based on entertainment value.
The story starts with Adelaide ‘Addie’ as a young child then moves on to the Academy where she is to spend the next years of her life training to be part of the Red Guard. This is a whole other world in the future when humans have ruined the Earth. Fae, Vampyrs, Demons etc have taken over. So is Addie human or something more? Drama, murder, twists and turns…I had no idea where this author was taking me. Just when I thought I knew, something else happened.
I enjoyed the story line, loved the characters…or loved to hate them. OMG it ended on a cliffhanger, now I need the next book!
I really enjoyed Descent by Sloane Murphy. This book was a really interesting take on a future society where humans are the minority and fae and vampyrs rule.
Addie is a great heroine. She is loyal, strong, and not afraid to tell others what she is thinking. I loved watching her life story unfold.
This book has a great cast of characters and had a great plot with many unexpected plot twists. I really can’t wait to see where the next book in the series takes us!
Adelaide has a goal and she doesn’t care about the limited possibilities of achieving it … she is a total bada$$ … and that ending!!!
What a story that just sucked me in. I loved the blurb and was not disappointed in the least. At heart it is the story of Adelaide and what happens to her as she leaves the academy. I loved the characters, mystery, suspense, and magic. I loved all the people Adelaide meets as she tries to survive what happens. Just a well written book that made me like and hate the characters. No one seemed to be who I thought they were at first meeting.
I could not believe how this book drew me in so quickly! It started like a young adult kinda story but with all the twists and things developing throughout any adult will totally enjoy it too! You laugh, cry and get upset then laugh a bit more! Can not wait to read book 2!

I loved these characters and this unique story I was engrossed from the beginning until the last page and I literally did not see that ending coming. I can’t wait for the next book. Wonderful story

This book is crazy good. It starts slow but quickly builds. I totally for sucked in wanting to know what was going to happen. It is suspenseful, tragic, exciting and has mystery.
The main character is Adelaide Tate and she is a tough, brutally honest and fiesty. She is in her last year of school and her goal is to join the Red Guard. No girl has ever made the Red Guard but he he is determined to be the first. Then tragedy strikes and she about loses herself. She has a hard time dealing with everything and then someone betrays her. Like seriously? Can she catch a break? What will happen? She tries her best to look on the bright side and makes a friend Who She helps out. Things start happening and no one will give her answers. Ugh I need to know what she will do know. I am really worried for her. Yes I know she is a character but still the feelings are there. Really Sloan how could you end it like that!
Yes there is a HUGE CLIFFHANGER, but the BOOK was really good. Definitely worth the read!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was something new, fresh and exciting to read. Great storyline with addictive characters. I did struggle with the first few chapters with trying to wrap my head around what was going on, but once I familiarise myself with the authors writing I was able to enjoy the book. I do think the book should be republished after being edited, as there were multiple errors but if you are able to overlook it! you will enjoy it.
Adelaide (Addie) Tate is a human at a supernatural academy, where Fae and Vampyr’s are in charge. Addie has trained her whole life to become the first female to join the Red Guard (protectors from demons). When a terrible accident strikes the academy the life she has know will not be the same again. I found Addie to be a little all over the place, she pride herself to be this strong independent woman that wanted to be a part of the Red Guard, but she seemed to whine and mope around a lot. Don’t get me wrong there were definitely moments that warranted this but she just seemed to do it more often than not.
The betrayal, angst, romance, and mystery, this book has it all. All though I have several questions, for example;
-How was the reason for Tyler’s betrayal except able for him?
-What was the reason for Kaden kidnapping Addie and playing dress up?
-Why after 3 months was she retuned?
I still enjoyed the journey. I didn’t really get any goosebumps when reading about the “love interest” between X & A. Plus the constant jumping in time was a little frustrating as I wanted to know more about what was going on in between.
CLEARLY made for teens.
I just did not like this book. I tried to, trust me. I finish it but it didn’t get me going enough to want to continue on to the second book. I didn’t like either of the main characters. Just couldn’t seem to connect with them and they didn’t seem to connect with each other either. The book started slow and ended slow. Only time I found interesting was when she was being held captive. I was frustrated from the beginning when it kept skipping over action scenes. Too much telling going on, not enough showing. One thing I loved was the vampire origin. Other than that I just felt like the book didn’t have enough substance.
What we think we know, is it substance or shadow? Too many people wanting to tell a girl their truths.
Who or what is she? What is the reality no one is telling her, not even the man who says he loves her. How can she trust anyone or herself til she knows for sure.
I will start off with saying this is NOT my normal kind of book, but I loved it! Addie is the protector, she would do anything for her roommate Livvy. Towards the end I felt some confusion, and it seemed a little rushed, but it was still a good book. That ending though! Unexpected! Can’t wait to read the next one.
Engrossing!!
I read this overnight & thoroughly enjoyed it. On the whole the characters were good but other than Addie I didn’t really feel like we got to know them properly, it was more surface things, the basics!! The plot, however, is fully fleshed out as is the world it’s set in Fascinating
This was an engrossing read that I’m happy to recommend to 13+ upwards!!
I love that we don’t really know who to trust!!! I’ll be diving straight into Book 2 ‘Crash’. Enjoy
