Welcome to Arcadia, where bloodlines and magic are divided. It all starts after I try to kill my sister… I know, it’s terrible. I have issues, okay? The magical kind. AKA, I’m cursed. I’m also a descendant of Ares, the God of War. Let’s just say, it means I come from a long line of hotheaded crazies.Since my family no longer trusts me, they ship me off to Arcadia, the academy for descendants. … to Arcadia, the academy for descendants. Full of booby traps and conniving students, this school is not for the faint of heart. This one gladiator, Xander, shows me the ropes, keeping our alliance a secret. My connection to him is strong, but we’re from different houses. We can never be anything more.
The worst part?
The Fates decide my bloodlust is too unpredictable. There’s something destructive inside of me, something I can’t control. The only way to contain it is to practice love magic in House Aphrodite, where I’m not exactly welcomed with open arms.
And every day, I get closer to fulfilling the curse’s prophecy. If I can’t figure out a way to stop it, I may end up destroying myself…

Sheridan’s story is one wild after adventure from the beginning to the bombshell ending. After attacking her sister Riley she’s sent of to the Academy for descendants of the gods. Her Ares blood is strong, but the fates want her is Aphrodite house. After running into Xander on the barge to Arcadia, their story becomes a whirlwind of twists and turns. Without giving away too much, the revelations that come to light further in the book, drops a wow of a bombshell for the next book.
An absolutely riveting first installment! The characters are intriguing, and their history and stories are insightful. I look forward to devouring the rest the series, and will be on the hunt for more books from Belle Malory!
I immediately noticed this book because of the beautiful cover, and though I know you aren’t supposed to pick a book that way (shame on me!), it did NOT disappoint! I usually enjoy new twists to Greek mythology, and this was a very interesting one. I really loved the world-building here. I have such a strong sense of place while reading this book. I often love the characters or plot of a book, but I must say, I loved the setting here for sure!
The characters were fun–it was interesting to see Sheridan evolve throughout the story as she finds out about an entire world she didn’t even know she belonged to. Xander’s personality keeps the reader guessing in the right ways. The house rivalries seemed authentic and realistic. I think the most enjoyable part of this book were the twists and turns at the end. One didn’t surprise me–I had already said to myself, “wouldn’t it be funny if…” earlier when reading. But the author throws in a few wildcards right at the end that make me very excited to read the next installment.
This is a must if you like Greek mythology, or if you love reading academy books. Bonus if you enjoy both–if so, you should really check it out!
This book a fun read. It was my first read from this author. She did a great job of writing an entertaining story, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
I really really liked this book. It starts off with a bang. It’s got a little bit of everything in it in one messed up family. I thought my family was messed up, but as always whenever Greek Gods are involved it’s a mess. I could easily relate to Sheridan, and the relationship with her sister. While, she gets sent away in order to protect her from her heritage it’s a read full of twists and turns that I was not expecting. I’m excited for the next book. I did receive an ARC but that does not affect my opinion.
Good book that skillfully blends Greek mythology and a girl who is not at all prepared to deal with being the descendant of a god- or as close as they come- and really doesn’t like her life upended.
A crazy twist to Greek mythology and I loved it! This story from the very beginning, is absolutely thrilling! Sheridan is a fantastic yet geeky character, with a fierce determination.
The characters are nothing short of fun and exciting and the storyline and plot are crafted beautifully, to fully enhance the reading experience
