Dark erotic standalone that may have triggers
Here at Lark and Gannet, you’ll work directly under the partners, being groomed by the most powerful, all-male partnership to handle an exclusive clientele. While within The Firm, your level of training goes deeper, requiring more…varied tasks, which you’re obligated to perform to your Master’s pleasing.
Are you nervous? You should be. Chase Larkin … should be. Chase Larkin has chosen you to be his submissive.
Alexis Wilde, will you submit?
All I wanted was to save my brother. Something my parents failed to do—and then, I failed him also. As an introvert, getting ahead in the cutthroat law firm required a level of ego stroking I didn’t posses, and that meant my talents were overlooked. Until Chase Larkin noticed me.
My erotic fantasy come to life, Chase is all powerful, all man, all dominant. In one night, he changed my life irrevocably. Now I’m ruined, destined to crave him forever. His scent. His taste. His brutal touch…
If I never followed him to his office that night, then none of this would’ve happened. A stalker on the prowl. Our lives in jeopardy. And only a moment—one pivotal moment—to decide our fate. His life or mine.
This is a full length, standalone dark romance with an antihero that may trigger uncomfortable feelings for the reader.

I just finished this story and I can’t wipe the smile from my face. Trisha, once again, managed to give me so much more than I ever expected! I am giddy with excitement and ready to dive back in for more!

Welcome to the Firm, where a dangerous and erotic game of chess is being played. Pieces are being strategically placed and pawns are being ruthlessly sacrificed, in order to discover who the true Master of the Game will be. This story is all about strength, submission and control– who wants it, who has it, and who doesn’t. The question is where will everyone end up when the last move is played?
In true Wolfe form, things are not as they first appear. Derision is definitely very hot and erotic, and will even push a few boundaries for some. This I totally expected but I had no idea there would be so much more at play. I was ecstatic to discover a bit of mystery and suspense woven into Chase and Alexis’ story. But what really had me grinning ear to ear, was the discovery of a few winks and nods to old friends from a prior series. Gah! I loved it. It had all the feels, thrills and shocks I have come to expect from Trisha’s books.
Yes, readers, this is a dark erotic, so if explicit sex and dark themes make you squeamish or give you nightmares, you may want to skip this one. On the other hand, if you don’t mind a bit of the taboo with your romance (or SEX) and a story line with grit and substance, get clicking. You are gonna love this one!
3.5 Stars – A quick and hot read but might not be for everyone.
I read this book because I was really intrigued by the characters from the With Ties that Bind Series. All in all I enjoyed this book but think that although it was a quick, hot and nice read, it missed detailing and there wasn’t any time for important things to develop and grow. The story rushed through all kinds of important steps especially in the bdsm aspect and I wasn’t a fan of the sudden feelings after only a couple of days that the characters knew each other.
Alexis was a frightened and rather inconspicuous person working in a law firm full of self-assured people who didn’t give her a second glance. That’s what she thought at least until one of her bosses noticed her.
Chase Larking was dominant and controlling through and through. He had an eye for beautiful and submissive things and pegged Alexis quite right. He never entertained the thought of taking on a submissive but Alexis was more intriguing and alluring for him to get her out of his mind with only one night. But his world was not black and white and the game he was playing was more complex than what meets the eye and Alexis soon found herself in some difficult and precarious situations.
My biggest bother in this story was how Chase basically forced her to agree to something he did not explain and she knew nothing about. He threatened her with losing her job when she didn’t do what he demanded and threw her into a foreign world full of kink. He was even telling her off when she spoke without asking for permission first when she didn’t even know the rules of that beforehand. I know that she was his first sub in training but he was seemingly inexperienced with how he expected a puppy to know all his commands. He was so demanding without having set boundaries or even developed trust with his sub and she gave in to him without a second thought. It was frustrating and almost horrifying to watch because this wasn’t fair for either of them and actually dangerous for obvious reasons in such a relationship that was supposed to be based on trust and communication. Both were missing here.
Despite the rather forceful and humiliating introduction into The Firm – something he also didn’t explain to her – Alexis and Chase clicked together in an unexpected way. The development was missing because it dove right into the juicy stuff but it’s undoubtedly a turn on for people who aren’t squeamish and who don’t need all the love and romance. This story was more about control than freely given submission.
I just felt like Alexis got pushed into something without wanting it and was too afraid to put a halt to it. A lot of things in this book were a grey area and I was torn between shouting at her to run away or push herself closer to him and cheer her on. It was a really weird feeling because there was even a time or two when he seemed almost nice and caring. I got whiplash from his constant and sudden mood changes.
While things might still be a turn on for some of us who bloom in the pain and pleasure that comes with it, it’s still harsh when you look at it from a neutral view.
So I didn’t hate it but I also didn’t love it, but although it had a bumpy start for me I can’t deny how much I enjoyed this story at the end. Especially when Alexis managed to get under his skin and finally found her voice a time or two. The story definitely had a lot of potential.
The reason of my rating despite the things that bothered me?!.. Well, I can’t lie and can’t deny it. Sometimes I prefer the forced and non-con to hearts and flowers. I like me some dominant with a strong hold, he should just know what he does.
it was better than I thought it would be. good story/plot on who dunnit.
This is a Dark Erotica may have triggers.
WELCOME TO THE FIRM!!
Are you ready to play a game of Chess, Trisha Wolfe style?!?!
No one does Dark Erotic like Trisha does. She will suck you in, keep you guessing, leave you on the edge of your seat and your panties wet until the very end. Then wondering what the hell just happened and leave you begging for more.
I absolutely LOVED this book! From the storyline to the characters created, the chemistry between Chase and Alexis is off the charts. You will feel every word, every touch, and every naughty whisper. This is a VERY SEXY MUST READ!!
There are some dark spots in this book so if certain things cause triggers this book may not be for you.
This is a stand alone and is in the POV of both main characters.
Intricate story that shows how some men when given too much power get over inflated ego’s and god complexes which leads to an abuse of that power some in nefarious ways.
This story is about a group of men that run a law firm. These men are also Doms that run a exclusive and very private BDSM sex club. Their dominate ways are blended into their work environment with their employees. They live life like a game of chess. Every move/decision made can either bring you an advantage or a disadvantage.
There were some things that worked for me in this book and other things that didnt. The current case they were working on about a serial rapist brought up good points – Do you go ahead and defend a man who may or may not be guilty. Is it ok to defame the rape victims just to get your client acquitted? As this plot thread went on there were some surprising twist by the end.
Chase Larkin is one of the head partners that works at Lark and Gannet. He is also a Dominant that also runs The Firm – the sex club that all his partners and employees are part of. A year ago they hired a meek woman to be an intern. She had no idea of the “rules” at Lark and Gannet that a promotion to paralegal meant also having to become a submissive to one of the partners. Chase has never taken a submissive before. Now that Alexis has come up for “auction” per se Chase decides he wants no other to have her.
Alexis Wilde has not had an easy life. After her parents died she became responsible for her emotionally challenged brother who had a drug problem. Needing money to get him the help he needed she applies for an is accepted at a very prestigious law firm not knowing what went on behind the scenes. She had no idea that her applying for a promotion would mean she also had to become Chase’s submissive and all that entails. She agrees to the terms but something neither of them realizes is this has brought her to the attention of a sick twisted man.
I liked Chase and Alexis together – they were evenly suited for each other. What I wished for was the characters to have been a little more fleshed out – more time taken before they got into a Dom/Sub relationship. The relationship aspect was a little to rushed for me especially since Alexis was clueless to lifestyle. There were some other hot points for me but the ending was satisfying.
If your a lover of over the top alpha doms who talk dirty along with liking a little suspense mixed in with your BDSM then I recommend reading Derision.
Very good book enjoyed it a lot
Predictable BDSM story but enjoyable. While I enjoyed this book it could have been better, and the characters were hard to relate to.
Liked very much! Learning about BDSM is interesting.
Loved this book. The characters were great and the dialogue between them engaging. The author did a great job at bringing the reader into the darker side of things. Loved that the true power the heroine in the story had over her Dom was highlighted. All in all, if you are looking for a darker romance and a not your average happily ever after this book does not disappoint. No judgements, just open eyes and you won’t miss the beauty in this tale. Loved it!
Loved it.
Not into this kind of read!
Wow. What a book. Highly recommend as long as you aren’t squeamish.
Too racy for me
Uhm…ok, so I just finished this book and for the love of all that is good, if you have not one-clicked this yet…WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??!
Trisha Wolfe, OMG, I love that your stories are always so much more than the alpha man chasing the woman and catching her. This story is riveting and please tell me there’s more isn’t there??? (Kinda sneaky…all this time I thought this was a standalone) I knew I was getting to the end and I thought…there has to be more to the story and the epilogue tells me there are more “games” to come. I was completely blind sided by the final chapter. So much more than the typical erotica….masterfully written. Tell the truth, when is the next installment?
