Don’t fall in love with your bandmate’s girl. It’s an unspoken rule, and one I’m determined to follow. I’ve always been the guy to take the high road, to be the voice of reason, but when it comes to Jess I’m tired of fighting this overwhelming attraction. The more time we spend together, the more compelled I am to show her she’s worthy of love and dreams of her own. The lines of my moral compass … lines of my moral compass begin to blur. I should leave her alone, but I can’t. I know it’s wrong, but everything about us feels so right.
Despite everything I try, it doesn’t change the truth. She’s not mine.
I can’t sit back and watch her love someone else. But if given the choice, will she even want me?
DERAIL can be read as a standalone, or start with Trent’s story in DETOUR.

I don’t even know where to start with this review. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this invested in a story. I’m talking shouting at the audio, threatening characters lives, crying. The full works. My husband was very concerned. This book made me feel so much and it was unexpected. I wanted to throw my phone at so many moments.
Kacey’s writing is so captivating and although this book involves a difficult subject, it is written with so much sensitivity and understanding that it as beautiful to listen to, even if I did need to hit pause a few times to just deal with the emotions I was experiencing.
Jess has been beaten down so much in her life that she truly believes she deserves whatever happens to her. It isn’t until she meets Sean, a man that treats her with kindness and respect, that she starts to see things differently. I adored her journey to the person she was born to be. Sean may have helped open her eyes, but she’s the one that did the work.
Sean is all the things. His capacity for care and kindness is just everything. I loved how gentle he was with Jess. Always wanting what is best for her, even if it wasn’t him.
Together they were just perfect. I loved the dynamic between them. The chemistry and tension was palpable.
The band drove me crazy with their don’t get involved policy but thank heavens for Deb. Who is not only the sweetest band mum ever but a wonderful person.
Jason Clarke was perfect as Sean and conveyed the emotions well like always. Emma Wilder as Jess was outstanding. I’ve listened to Emma before, and she’s always a hit, but this book, her performance blew me away. The way she conveyed the raw emotion and experience of the character was both beautiful and heartbreaking. Both Emma and Jason have fabulous opposite gender voices and it makes for an all-encompassing listen as you don’t get taken out of the story or the performance with the switch. Their voices complement each other well and the transition from one to the other and from each character was smooth. The production was great with no issues.
This book was so real. I was hooked from the beginning. We return to Three Ugly Guys and their story. This time, the new drummer ‘s tale is being told. Coy joins the band and brings along his high school sweetheart. Jess is timid and Sean is falling hard for her. it is this love triangle that brings out all the emotions of the characters. Shea writes so many sensitive topics into this book that my heart was twisted and kept hoping for happiness. From cheating, to abuse, to addiction and more, this book really brought out all the feels.Hanging on the hedge of my seat, I could not stop listening to Jess and Coy’s story. I feel so hard for Sean. He is the true hero. The cameos of Lexi and Trent were perfect as they tried to help out the band mates through many difficult situations. I cannot wait to hear more about the band!!
Jason Clarke and Emma WIlder bring this story to life. Jason is amazing at how he narrated the vast differences between Sean and Coy. He easily made Coy the bad boy and through his narration, I dreaded the appearance of Coy in any scene. Yet, Jason was able to bring the softness and loyalty of Sean off the pages and into my heart. Emma really was the perfect Jess. From her timidness to her strength, Emma brought Jess to life. I felt as if I was talking to a friend as I listened to this story. I cannot wait to hear more from this narrating team.
4.5 Devastatingly Beautiful Stars!!
Derail is book 2 in the Off the Track Records Series, and can be read as standalone as the rest of the series.
This book is about Sean and Jess’s journey. The story is narrated and brought to life by Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder. Jason Clarke’s performance is absolutely brilliant. He masterfully convey the thoughts and feelings from each character, especially perfectly capturing the intensity and overwhelming emotions coming from Sean Willis.
The storyline is captivating, heartwrenching, intriguing, raw, passionate, emotionally moving, and a times devastatingly sad because it wasn’t just another fictitious story, in which everyone is almost perfect. I was hooked right from start, and I loved seen Sean’s emotional vulnerability, his protectiveness, and his sweet side instead of finding the manwhore we may have expected him to be.
I was taken aback for the response of some member of the band towards one of their own. Everyone, with the exception of Sean got me screaming at them for not acting accordingly, and with compassion. I was expecting another outcome at the end, but the resolution got me crying my eyes out. (Expect the unexpected, no freaking kidding.)
Can’t wait to start listening to the next story!!
I loved all the characters in Detour and I couldn’t wait to get Sean’s story in Derail, but man it was a tough one. From the very beginning of the story it was made clear that Jess thought she deserved nothing good in life and she owed Coy whatever he wanted. It was a struggle at times to listen to everything she put up with and not yell at her to stop and get away from him… he seriously needed a throat punch several times! Her past is hinted about throughout the book but once she finally reveals everything she went through, it was heartbreaking. I loved how Sean reacted to Jess’s confession… the fact that he told her she was strong to do whatever she needed to in order to survive was really the best thing ever! I was a little worried how Jess would turn her life around because she just seemed to give up for most of the story but I absolutely loved the ending, it was perfect for both her and Sean! I can’t wait for the next book to see playboy Austin change his ways!!
Jason Clarke does it again, and this time he shares the mic with Emma Wilder to bring this book to life. I could listen to him croon all day. In book one I fell in love with 3 Ugly Guys, and stayed that way in this book as well. This was Sean’s story, and it was an emotional one for sure. Kacey Shea is a talented author and amazing storyteller. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
***Audiobook was provided by Author. My review was voluntary and unbiased.***
OMG, I seriously did not think anyone would top Trent and Lexi as my favorite couple after Detour because, c’mon swooooon!! But Sean and Jess’s story is literally everything <3 I will say there were parts when I was screaming and I soooo wanted to throw my phone, but I was so so glad that I kept listening because Sean, Sean & SEAN!!! And Jess, of course, she is a perfect match for him. I love this book and absolutely cannot wait to find out more about Lexi's half sister in Hinder next month!!
The audiobook is narrated once again by Jason Clarke and he is a-ma-zing as Sean. Emma Wilder is equal spectacular was Jess!!!
***I was given this audiobook in exchange for my honest review by the author. This did not effect my real opinion of this story. ***
Thank you Kacey and please keep writing more fabulous books <3 (less)Kacey Shea
This book gives you the story of Three Ugly Guys bassist Sean Willis and how he falls for a woman who’s already taken. Jessica Moore has really low self esteem and puts up with her mostly verbally abusive bf, Coy. They moved from Denver to LA so that Coy can fulfill his dream of becoming the drummer for a band. Coy hits it big time by getting a temporary gig with 3UG while the drummer is in rehab. The chemistry between Sean and Jess is palpable from the moment they meet but she’s taken. I must admit that the verbal abuse was a bit difficult for me to read/listen to and I did have to take breaks. That said, this is a great story that addresses various types of abuse. Well written book. Can’t wait for the next book!
I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Wow! I am really getting into this crew! The 3UG really show some true colors in this one! There are some heavy emotions in here as well as light hearted moments. In this book Sean and Jess get a story. It’s hard and sometimes difficult to listen but it’s all worth it in the end. I went from feeling sad and shock to puppies and rainbows. So there is a huge array of emotions that can be felt during this listen. So there is a special scene in here that highlights two secondary characters. These two gave me reactions that I didn’t expect and they made me like them even more. Cryptic? I know. But I wanted to mention the admiration I had for them but not give anything away. Jess is another character that really grew in here. She really stepped up and made changes.
I did listen to this on audio. Is there an voice SEXIER than Jason Clarke? He has that perfect growly low sexy voice of a rocker. Can you say “Nailed it”! Emma Wilde does an wonderful job as well using her talents on the mirad of female voices.
I can’t wait for the next one!
My favorite of this series so far! I really love this band and the closeness of them. Family by choice is always great and these guys have it in spades. Bring in a beautiful girl that doesn’t know how great she is and it makes for a perfect story.
***** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW *****
This type of storyline is a hard one to pull off. I did not expect to FEEL so much with Shawn’s story. I didn’t think it was possible to love the main character duo like I did with Lexi and Trent. But I did, Shawn is so caring and compassionate that no one has a chance against his heart. Jess… I don’t even know what to say but I was rooting for her. I was in her corner and wanting nothing but the best of things. You won’t get 5 minutes into Jess’s and Shawn’s book before your heart is all knotted up and you’re out for blood.
Kacey Shae created one of her BEST stories to date in my opinion and this is a storyline that I generally struggle with. So to say this is Shae’s best book when this isn’t a subject-matter I prefer is truly HUGE! Shae’s writing was real and seriously authentic. She took the mind of a battered woman and served it up perfectly for is. There was just one area where I really wanted more information on… like what happened with Coy after? I kept waiting on retribution or something. However, the love and understanding in this book had my heart all twisted up and that ending… I don’t think I could have swooned any harder unless I toppled over!
The narration could not have been any better! How do you go wrong with Emma Wilder or Jason Clarke on the voices. Wilder astounds me in her ability to play so many different women. She really gives us a timid and scared Jess that grows and gets stronger over time. Clarke exhibited Shawn’s heart and I felt it like he was wearing that heart on his sleeve. Great portayals especially with the emotional sides of this story!!
Derail continues to captivate in this sexy, and emotional rock-star romance. The members of the rock band, Three Ugly Guys, are once again in need of a drummer when Iz is sent to rehab. They hire Coy, a talented drummer who seems to gel seamlessly with their music. Coy brings his sweet, kind girlfriend, Jess, with him to move in with the band. Jess has a painful, dark past that makes her feel unworthy of real love. Coy found her at her lowest and she is grateful that he would rescue her. I was so excited to find out more about Sean after falling for him in the first book, Detour. He was so thoughtful, loyal, and protective, and now we got to see more of his loving side. There is something about Coy and his moral code that rubs Sean the wrong way right from the start. He is concerned about his new roommate. He can see the smart, beautiful, and resilient woman behind the walls Jess hides behind and wants to help her shine. But when she belongs to someone else, and lines are crossed, will it destroy the bad before they even start their tour? This is an emotional and heart-pounding story that took my breath away. It could be so sweet, and fun, yet also powerful and raw as it touched on several emotional topics with honesty and empathy.
Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder’s narration was so moving as they brought these flawed characters to life. The way they portrayed Sean and Jess in all their strengths and vulnerabilities was so authentic and their chemistry was palpable. I loved listening to them both as they drew me in and made this story even more sizzling and exciting. I can’t wait for more from 3UG!
This is the second book in the Off Track Records Series, an amazing Rock Star Romance. I love the 3 Ugly Guys Band! There is a lot going on in this story! Sean and Jess’s journey is emotional, sexy, and twisted. At some point, it reminded me Pretty Woman. Jess’s past is heartbreaking, and devastating. She is definitely a strong survivor. Sean is handsome, caring and protective. Their attraction is strong and beautiful. The storyline has some serious triggers like drug addiction, overdose, cheating, and abuse. Trent’s mother is a wonderful character. I loved to see again Trent and Lexie. Austin is an intriguing character, and I would love to have his story. The supporting characters are great. Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder did an amazing job with the narration. They are perfect as Sean and Jess, and their voices together are amazing. They have a great range of voices, and the characters were easy to distinguish. You can listen to this audiobook as a standalone, but I highly recommend you to listen to the first book, Detour, before. Looking forward to listen to Hinder, the third book in the Series.
Audio Review: Derail (Off Track Records #2) by Kacey Shea, Narrated by Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder
How is it possible to fall in love with people you aren’t even sure that you like? Shea and company make it so easy. Derail steps outside of the beautiful fantasy and highlights the broken parts. Sean and Jess are hopelessly flawed, yet beautifully real. Wilder and Clarke are the heart of Shea’s soul. That detail alone makes for a haunting, yet captivating experience.
A great addition to this series. It’s definitely angsty and deals with tough subject matters. My favorite of the series so far. Rockstar narration by Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder!!
Fabulous Story & Narration Heartfelt, Raw & Real!
Derail
Off Track Records, Book 1
By: Kacey Shea
Narrated by: Jason Clarke, Emma Wilder
Wow, this is one awesome book, it is the second book of the “Off Track Records” series. I fell in love with the members of “Three Ugly Guys” in the first book“Detour”, Trent & Lexi made their way into my heart in that book but Kacey Shea outdid herself in this book, she had Sean and Jess possess not just my heart but my mind too, once I started the book I could not stop and holy moly, these characters had my emotions going all over the place. The band “3UG” find themselves in need of a drummer for their next tour, they find a perfect match and hire Coy, he moves into the house with the rest of the band bringing his girlfriend Jess. Trent and Austin were happy with Coy but Sean was not, there was something about him that did not sit right. Sean also had an eye for Jess the moment he saw her but she could not be anything but a friend. The more I learned about Jess the more I felt for her and the more I wanted for her, I loved the advice Trent’s Mom Deb gave Sean about her situation, loved how she was with Jess too. It was great to see Jess grow as a person, also great seeing the band come together to do the right thing. This is one amazing story and series, Kacie Shea puts a lot of heart into her stories and there is a lot of depth to them as well. I love her writing style and how she keeps it all real. There is never a dull moment in this book, there is plenty of drama, some angst, some humor (Go Austin, go) heartfelt moments, heartbreaking ones and the start to a wonderful romance. Kacey Shea, thank you for this wonderful story, I can not give it enough praise and five stars is merely not enough. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, Hinder, I hope it comes to audio soon.
I listened to the Audiobook edition, Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder are fabulous narrators and voice artists. They bring these characters to live, giving each their own voice and personality. Jason Clarke’s portrayal of Sean and Emma Wilder’s Jess were perfect, they truly humanized them and captured their persona, you could hear the character’s emotions reflected in their performances. They are entertaining storytellers and pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen

By: Kacey Shea
Narrated by: Jason Clarke, Emma Wilder
Book two in Kacey Shea’s Off the Tracks series is so good, you do not want to miss it! This book has everything, bringing ever emotion to the surface and letting us feel it. Jess comes to the band with her boyfriend, Coy, the new drummer to the group. Sean, the bassist feels an immediate attraction to her. But you just can’t fall for one of your bandmate’s girls, can you? So many issues are brought out in this one, from cheating to abuse, and it’s dealt with compassion and care. I love Jess. She is stronger than she thinks and her path to finding her confidence is so rewarding. I was rooting for her the entire time, not just to find true love, but to reach her potential. The chemistry of the band is something I enjoy as well. The family feel, including Lexi and Deb gives heartwarming love. The slow burning romance just was the icing on the cake for me, with all the other problems that were going on. And I think my favorite part was Hansen…mmmbop! Shea has pushed all the right buttons, and even with a happy ending, has left me wanting more from the band! Bring on book 3!
Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder are cast perfectly for this story. Clarke can fall into a part, and he
becomes the character. Sean is complex, and Clarke finds all the nuances of his personality. Wilder falls into Jess, and makes her real and so easy to love. This story and narrative is emotional, breaks our hearts and puts the pieces back together. Shea, Clarke and Wilder bring it all to us.

I first fell for Kacey Shea’s fictional rock band when she introduced them in her Uncovering Love series. So to say that I am a little addicted to the Three Ugly Guys is an understatement! Now that we have seen 3UG on tour in Detour and experienced the love between the lead singer and their opening act, Kacey Shea takes us back into their muscular arms for a little down time in their home and a front row seat to the deliciously sweet bass guitarist Sean and his shot at love. Little did I know that Kacey would batter our hearts with an angsty love that could derail the whole band! It wasn’t long into Jess and Sean’s story and my heart was in agony and my libido was in overdrive. These two bring the emotions to full crescendo and leave us with our hearts exposed and tears in our eyes!
Sean Willis is the band member that I most wanted to get to know intimately. He comes off as so sweet and you can’t help but fall in love with him from the moment he is introduced in Detour, so I could not wait to get an inside look at this hot rock star! The more I got to know him, the harder I fell for this sensitive, protective fictional book boyfriend. He pushed all of my emotional buttons and left me pining for more time with him.
Jessica Moore is a young woman who has had no one to depend on her whole life except her current boyfriend Coy. So when she is thrown into a whole new world alongside her rock star boyfriend, clinging to him seems to be the right move to make…or is it? I adored getting to know Jess and see her friendship with Sean deepen into something so meaningful and her flourish and find herself in the process. Not to mention the sexual tension between them that could light us all on fire!
Kacey Shea delivers a soul touching, heart throbbing tale that shows us what true love and empowerment is all about. I highly recommend Derailed for a rock star romance that plucks at your heartstrings and leaves you singing the character’s praises. If I wasn’t already deeply in love with Three Ugly Guys, Kacey would have had me falling headlong into these fictional heroes hearts that can rock any reader’s heart! I cannot wait for Kacey to give us more of the smokin’ hot 3UG!
Derailed is one of those books that just takes hold of you from the very first page. You jump in and don’t look back. I actually, read this throughout the night and stayed up way past my bedtime. All Kacey’s fault!
Jess and Sean’s story isn’t an easy one. It’s not an easy romance. Jess has her past demons that she can’t seem to run away from. But the primary thing holding her back is her douchebag boyfriend Coy. I connected with Jess on a personal level, that might be why this book took hold of me. I loved that Jess and Sean took their time in the end. She had the freedom to figure out her life. That’s exactly what she needed in the end.
Shea writes these incredible stories, and the way she’s able to draw the reader in is pretty amazing. I think a lot of readers, might feel why Jess is so weak? And why doesn’t she just escape when she can? When in reality, you need that push to finally get away, face those hard decisions and come out of it scarred but can heal.
Overall, I give this Five Boundless Stars
Oh Sean with his good guy ways. When he falls for a girl he can’t have. He decides they’ll be friends. Jess is the new drummers girlfriend with a dark past a manipulating, abusive boyfriend.
This book kept my heart racing. I couldn’t put it down. Through the heartache there was laughter and love. I love he banter between the band family. How they have each others backs. Jess has never been shown love and finds it hard to let people in. Sean shows her the light that is in side of her even though her boyfriend keeps her in darkness.
A five star read you won’t want to put down. The drama and laughter will pull you in. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I received a advanced copy for a voluntary honest review.
What happens when you cross a chivalrous rock star and an abused woman that he wants to make his??? This amazing book!
Derailed starts with Coy trying out for the band 3Ugly Guys after they have a mishap at the Grammys with their drummer. He makes the condition that his girlfriend Jess has to move in with him and travel with band. Fast forward a bit and Sean the bands bassist, knows he is in trouble when he can’t stop the feelings he has for Jess.
What happens to these characters is something that will stick with you so you have to read to find out more. You will not be disappointed because this book has it all. You will get secrets, love, fear, angst, and finally peace. I highly recommend that you get started on this book as soon as you can!
