The search for a deputy sheriff’s murderer leads a courageous ex-Army Ranger on a twisted path to the truth.Henry Biggston can’t seem to get his life together. As a rookie private investigator, all he seems to do is take pictures of cheating spouses. But when he takes the murdered deputy’s position in the ruggedly beautiful but desolate Butte County, he inadvertently places a target on his own … target on his own back.
In the frigid depths of winter, Biggs and his K9 partner Diva uncover a shocking conspiracy. It will take every bit of Biggs’ elite training to survive long enough to bring justice to bear.
Deputy in the Crosshairs is an edge-of-your seat thriller. If you like gritty heroes, non-stop action, and twists you won’t see coming, then you’ll love Jamie McFarlane’s high-octane novel.

I would highly recommend Deputy in the Crosshairs. Characters are fully formed. The storyline is somewhat realistic with a huge scoop of possibility. Although, I don’t consider myself as someone who is in the country western genre, this is a great read. Probably because it is more about small town lifestyle which just happens to be in an country setting. I almost did not download it because of the picture on the cover. The cowboy was somewhat off putting, but I’m glad I did. The characters and storyline would make an excellent series.
I had to buy this after devouring the first book in this series. Not disappointed. Loved all the characters, the plot, the action. He is a master at writing with tension on every page (macro and/or micro tension). I never got bored or rushed through text. Even “mundane scenes” are written in an interesting fashion. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Jamie McFarlane is now one of my favorite authors.
OMG! After reading When Justice Calls, I immediately purchased this one! And it did not disappoint. So much action and suspense. Wonderful characters and storyline. I read it in two days. I’m so hoping there will be more Henry Biggston stories!
I was so impressed with book 1 I immediately bought book 2 – lucky me because it just came out when I had finished book 1.
I love Henry. While flawed – ACCEPTABLE flawing. Not just some feel sorry for me -boohoo flaws. I love his respect for people AND HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS GRANDPA AND GRANDMA. It feels warm and real.
I LOVE HIS FRIEND SNERT and how the man loves him and their amazing friendship.
I CRIED with probably everyone else in book 1 with Diva. LOVE THAT DOG.
NOW BOOK 2 KEEPS ALL THE SAME WONDERFUL FLAWS AND WARMTH. AND adds some new fun characters Like Denny and Mort.
I love how the author has progressed Henry.
This has been a fun journey – okay the story lines are intense and a twist you do not want to see coming – but it has such a tempo that I just could not put it down.
Read while sending files.
Read while doc was dictating to air.
Read while waiting for train to cross.
Read while playing bingo.
BOTH BOOKS were not-put-downable.
I WANT MORE.
Glory be, Henry Biggston is back, in Jamie McFarlane’s Deputy in the Crosshairs (A Henry Biggston Thriller, Book 2). This is exactly what the phrase “edge-of-your-seat thriller” was meant to describe. Harry may be a novice PI facing something that would scare off even a seasoned investigator but this ex-Army Ranger doesn’t know the meaning of “scare off” – and we readers get a gloriously wonderful tale as a result. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
