I knew Erik Jensen was trouble the moment I crashed into him in front of a bar on Bourbon St. I didn’t know how much trouble until the wanna-be Dom dragged me into court on a ridiculous charge.Looking more like a sexy pirate than an attorney, there’s nothing pretend about Jensen, and the stakes are higher than I ever could have imagined. Because Erik isn’t the man I thought he was, and neither is … neither is the game we’re playing.
If I win, I keep it all: my business, my reputation, and my formerly invulnerable heart. If I lose…well, I won’t let that happen.
But it’s getting harder to tell which one of us is being mastered and before long, a safe word is the only thing standing between happily ever after and a pair of broken hearts.

This isn’t your typical dom/submissive book, not even close. It starts with a woman who doesn’t believe true doms and submissives exist and a man who is a true dom, and not a cliché one. They start a journey that has you on the edge of your seat all the time, it is full of sensuality.
The dom in the story is Erik. I have never liked a dom so much like I do him. He takes it all to a new level of sensuality, desire and power. He tries hard through the whole story to keep leading, to be the one in command and to show Alexandra the true meaning of the words dom and submissive. He does a hell of a smart job tearing down her walls and turning her game around. For a woman who undresses in front of men and wears her nakedness as if she was still wearing clothes, making her feel vulnerable is really hard but Erik accomplishes it like no one else could. For example, dressing her when she is more comfortable naked, and then letting her mind spin. Mine was too, so believe when I tell you this is not a common story.
I love that despite the theme of this book, Alexandra is a woman who hates clichés and fights to keep power in her life. Explores the dilemmas nowadays about women who are powerful but like to submit in bed. Never turns down from a challenge. Has a sassy attitude that I think all women should have.
This book explores in a simple and rich way how details are important, in everything but specially in a person. Erik pays attention to every line, blush, smile in Alex to read her emotions. And he accomplishes that like no one else could. For Alex to be so defensive and protective of herself, Erik makes a fine job reading between the lines. In my opinion, everyone becomes amazingly interesting when we pay attention during the little time we may have with them.
The evolution of their relationship is so well written and happens at the right pace. Nothing rushed. Everything described in detail, the surroundings, the feelings, you get the whole picture as only great books can do.
It is amazing how Erik could capture every feeling on Alexandra’s face, always with his all attention on her, but when it came to love that transpired through every pore of her skin, he missed it like a baby. It makes me wonder why are we all so afraid of the big thing, the L word.
Both of them went through all the stages of grief. Denial of their feelings. Anger toward themselves for getting fooled into loving someone. Bargaining with themselves and others to get an understanding in which they keep seeing each other with exclusivity. Depression when they find out they cannot live without one another like they thought they could. And last but not the least, acceptance of their new reality, where declaring their love feels right and a life together seems heaven.
This story proves to us that when we are strong enough to push our fear aside and go for it, what comes next it always true happiness, a plenitude so big it makes you think that everything happens for a reason.
Also, Evelyn Adams has a sweet place in my favorite authors list, for she is so talented and brilliant. Please tell me if you read this that Erik is someone that can exist in real life and not just in our dreams. I feel like Alexandra because I thought real doms didn’t exist, and then you come to me with a dom that is so much better than what I though is posible, that again I am in love with doms and how they get mastered as much as they master someone.
In the end, this beautiful story messes with your head, and you will never see it coming. Welcome to deposition and a dare.
If you’re looking for clever dialogue, relatable characters, and loads of sexual tension, then this is the book for you!
This was a super-scorching romance between two smart and accomplished people. I enjoy when the hero and heroine are well-matched intellectually. Elegant writing.
