This story is the continuation of Halfling. If you haven’t read that one yet, I recommend that you. This story was an emotionally roller coaster for myself. The characters have so much to work through. From working on personal problems to trusting each other. I bow to this author and the fictional world she has created. It is truly outstanding.
This story kept my attention throughout. And I can’t wait to see what happens next to Layla and Hunter.
3.5
Demon’s Possession was a good second book. It’s about moving forward and letting go of the past in order to overcome one’s fears and insecurities. It’s also about second chances and new beginnings.
I felt the author did an excellent job creating the Underworld. Her descriptions made it easy to visualize and imagine being in such a place. I enjoyed the overall story and liked some of the new characters introduced in this book. Some of which I hope to learn more about in future stories. The only thing I didn’t enjoy so much was Layla ‘s recklessness and immaturity. I realize that she is still a young woman and trusting people isn’t easy for her considering her past but I found myself a little frustrated with how she kept carelessly endangering herself and the lives of others. That being said I still look forward to the next book and seeing Layla grow and mature.
Layla is still getting used to being a witch and the mate of a demon, Hunter. A few months ago she was a struggling waitress with no place to go because her alcoholic mother had thrown her out of the house. She was saved by a coven of witches who have now become her family, and she is also attending college to pursue a degree in Fine Arts and writing. Hunter picks her up from school each day on his motorcycle and he is also paying for her education with money he brought from the Underworld. Layla is amazed that Hunter has acclimated to living on earth so quickly by finding a job as a carpenter and getting his drivers license. He built her a beautiful table and chairs for the kitchen in their cozy cabin that is decorated with Layla’s artwork. Her love for Hunter comes from deep inside her soul and she can’t believe he feels the same way about her.
Hunter knew Layla was his soulmate the first time he gazed into her beautiful eyes. He will do anything for her and makes sure he is always patient and understanding of her feelings. When they first got together, Sophie, the head witch of the coven, wanted to kill him but fortunately for him, she has grown to like him. Demons and witches rarely get along and almost never mate for life like him and Layla. He wants to share all of himself with Layla, but he senses that she doesn’t completely trust him, and he doesn’t know how to change her mind. When one of the other demons becomes ill, Hunter determines that it is a serious disease that was brought from the Underworld. When Sophie is stricken with the same disease, Hunter realizes he must go back to the Underworld to find the cure. Layla wants to go with him, but he warns her that witches are not welcome there, but she is determined to go.
Will Hunter convince Layla that her life will be in danger if she goes with him? Does she understand that Hunter would rather die than live without her?
What or who will Layla find in the Underworld and how will this affect her future? Can she truly trust Hunter or has he been keeping something from her since they met?
Hunter and Layla are one of my favorite couples and I was really looking forward to reading “Demon’s Possession” to find out how they were adjusting to their new life.
They love each other very much and they didn’t give up hope as they journeyed through the Underworld. I am a new fan of the Paranormal genre and new author Adrian Wolfe brings us an exciting new series that I know everyone will enjoy.
