They are big, strong and silent. Their faces are hidden behind masks and their bodies are enclosed in armor suits. They took me from my home in the middle of the night and have been holding me in isolation for months. I don’t fully understand the purpose of my captivity. No one explains anything to me. No one even talks to me.Nearly driven to madness with no more hope for freedom, I no longer … longer care if I live or die.
And then he speaks to me. Just a few words . . . He throws me a lifeline and helps me find my way back to sanity. He becomes my only companion. My light in the darkness.
I suspect they may not be entirely human. What’s worse is that he may be one of them.
Warning: Demon Mine is a paranormal romance with dark elements. It contains sexual situations, graphic descriptions of intimacy, and potential triggers. Intended for mature readers.

I absolutely adored Sytrius. He was kind, caring, and compassionate. He knew what was happening was wrong, but was trapped, unable to do anything about it. Until the moment he could…then he defied all the rules so that he could protect Alyssa. She was a great match for him. Not saying she didn’t struggle with the fact that he was an incubus, but in time, there was acceptance along with her compassion that this is what he is. That he needs those emotions to feed, to be strong. They grew together and we were able to see the changes in Sytrius throughout the book. There were so many scenes that I loved with them. His growth towards the end, his carefree attitude, and faithfulness despite his need, was wonderful!
Overall, this was an entertaining, wonderful read. The story was sweet, and there were moments of suspense where you were not sure what was going to happen. Marina also has an interesting take on the incubus…but I won’t say too much so I don’t give it away! You just gotta read for yourself.
Captivating!
The situation in which the reader finds Alyssa at the start of the book is intolerable. Held for about a year in a state of bare subsistence. Not one word spoken. Her story is amazing. Sytrius plays a key role in her new life. I see the joy she finds in the tiniest bit of hope, how she works to create more of those moments. The relationship between her and her handler changes in such small increments, but the significance is enough to move Sytrius to radical actions. An enthralling story from beginning to end!
Perfect!
I really love this Series. A must read. Cannot wait till the others come out.
LOVED this book. I’ve never read anything like it. If you like somewhat dark romance, you’ll love this story. I couldn’t help but fall in love with the hero and the strong heroine.
I really enjoyed Demon Mine: maybe not as much as To Love A Monster but it was still a worthy read with so much to offer.
An original and unique concept I was ever so intrigued and fascinated from the get-go with this and I also found the whole concept of this story ever so irresistible indeed.
Alyssa and Sytrius as a couple really did grow on me and I was definitely invested in this pairs overall outcome almost right from the onset.
I myself found this a tale of two halves: the first part being much more of a draw than the second.
In fact, this was my favourite part of this: the original incarceration and dynamic between Alyssa and Sytrius was ever such an intriguing notion to analyse and dissect.
I almost felt that Sytrius’s budding emotions were being awakened ever so slowly the more he interacted and engaged with Alyssa.
So this isn’t really in my opinion that dark despite where we initially started here.
This to me felt sweeter and ultimately special.
So was this perfect? No, but there was enough here that it didn’t really matter that much to me.
Yes the overall world-building itself could have done with a bit of a spit and polish but I overlooked this slightly due to just how original this whole thing actually was.
So, in conclusion, this had more pluses than minuses.
This author really has managed to bring something new and fresh to the table: which is not an easy feat in today’s market and should definitely be commended for her boldness and innovation in accomplishing this task.
I have no qualms at all about recommending “Demon Mine” to you it was, in my opinion, a fascinating and thought-provoking read.
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

I have not read anything quite like Demon Mine by Marina Simcoe. It is a fascinating story of the demons who were cast to Earth in somewhat of an eternal hell of constant hunger only to be relieved by feeding on positive or sexual emotions of humans. The story is of a demon and a human who form a bond and escape the feeding center. I honestly did not like the demons in the beginning who were holding the human women captive. But somehow over the course of the book I began to feel sympathy for them and was hoping for a happy ending. And I was not disappointed. The author weaves such a tale of hope, acceptance, unconditional love, and forgiveness that you can’t put it down until you know how it ends. It is an awesome story and I would recommend it wholeheartedly.
This was my first read by this author. ( I’ve since read all her other books )
Wow… different and refreshingly so…
Alyssa has been held captive by masked amour suited men for a long time… she doesn’t know how long.. she gave up scratching the passing days into her cell wall.. weighed down with despair she doesn’t know how much longer she can hold on to her fragile grip of hope. Her fight is gone and so is her the strength to fight what has happened to her.
Sytirius is a soldier, a handler..Aylssas new handler.. a demon, an incubus to be precise.
A race of beings that feed on positive human emotions. He is starving and the only positive to his life is Alyssa. Building on a fragile as glass friendship they begin to see each other…as more than just captive and handler.
Until one day during a feeding.. Alyssa is nearly killed by the grand master and Sytirius decides… he must save her… like she has saved him, from starvation, from loneliness and the nothingness that his life had become.
I adored watching the relationship, friendship and understanding develop between Alyssa and Sytirius… how two very different beings came to tolerate and work together in the most dire of circumstances, to aid not one but both of their species.
This book is full of questions and debate – about free will, about power, about the needs of few outweighing the needs of many?
It is a multi-genre book, paranormal/dark/erotic/romance….it cannot be labelled so I wont try. All i will say is that it is a fantastic story, the emotions that run through this book are so deep and strong and I felt them HARD. This is not a ‘fluffy read’ and I’m not saying that as a negative, because fluffy reads are great, but this is an fast paced emotional roller coaster of a book and a brilliant example of emotive writing at its best.
Consider this your one and only trigger warning because it does portray, discuss and challenge ‘adult themes’. BUT don’t let that scare you…this author is a true wordsmith of the heart and has quickly become one of my all time favourite authors because of her ‘hard feeling’ emotive books and the way she challenges the society and its ideas around relationships.
