Dementor’s a grizzly bear shifter. In human form, he’s a huge mountain of a man who works as a bouncer for the MC’s strip club. The MC is struggling because so many of their members died during the battle between good and evil, but the small group of brothers who survived form a tight group.Ember is a swan shifter who was owned by the Owl King for years — a princess given in tribute, but she grew … but she grew to love him despite the fact it wasn’t a healthy relationship. When he was killed in the battle, she found herself alone and adrift.
Worlds collide when a grizzly bear and a swan from opposite worlds find common ground. This is about more than princess and biker, it’s about a monogamous creature in a relationship with one who isn’t, it’s about a protective personality versus a woman who hasn’t been free to be herself for years. Is she even capable of having a normal relationship? Because now, anything short of total freedom feels a bit like having her wings clipped all over again.
But she’s going to transition to a dragon soon, and clipping a swan’s wings is one thing, while clipping a dragon’s wings is an entirely different matter.

This was such an exciting book to read, I have had soooo much fun.
In the universe where all is possible, the love story between a bear and a swan sounds real romantic. But then Candace had to put her twist on it, and you get this book – Dementor.
He is a big man and a grizzly bear, and she is a little woman and a swan. sounds impossible ??? its not. The chemistry is off the charts, the problems are real (I mean, he is a bear !!!!) but its all part of the appeal.
this book is such a page-turner and if you are a fan of Candace Blevins, all you need to know that this reminds me a lot on one of her first books – The Dragon king (this book made me fall in love with the way Candace builds up character and her story line is sooooooo good and complex, later she went for the ultimate with a whole bunch of bad boy bikers)
Ember’s story is one of personal growth after a hell storm, plus the most adorable thing that makes this book so darn cute (Candace don’t come for me) is the roller derby that Ember started to do as a way to get better and define herself after her past. I have to tell you, before this book I didn’t think much or roller skates, but this book with its tournaments and skating got me giggling like a schoolgirl and remembering my skating days. And I bet you will to.
Ever had an author whose writing speaks to your heart? Well one of mine is Candace Blevins. The strength of her characters as they muddle through life – the good and the bad times – speaks to how I hope I’m living mine! The hot, steamy scenes stay on her pages, but give me fun ideas and certainly spice up my life! I can’t wait to see how the post-battle Birmingham RTMC develops since the Chattanooga club has given me many hours of roller coaster rides through the years! Let the journey begin! (Hint, hint… you don’t have to read them before reading these, but the Chattanooga RTMC books rock!)
Kicking off a new series within an existing world post epic battle is an impressive challenge. For those who have followed the other series by Ms. Blevins, this is an exciting new must read erotic romance. For those new to Ms. Blevins, this will reel a reader in. I confess, I avoided as many spoilers as possible because I wanted to be surprised. I wanted to enjoy the journey of the book and I didn’t want too many expectations set up. I am glad I did; I loved this book. Here are the reasons why.
First, I knew that this was after a major war between good and evil. Both sides suffered heavy losses. Staggering losses that still pains me to think about. My guess was this story was going to be more about rebuilding post war devastation and really focus on the supernatural communities trying to start over again. Yes and no. This story briefly touched upon the after shocks and post war salvaging, but it mostly focused on a very sweet and steamy romance. This is the main reason why I enjoyed it. The romance is delightful.
Second, I loved Ember the main character. It is no secret that I love the females Ms. Blevins creates because they are not victims. They are survivors and it appeals to me. Ember is a survivor, with baggage. It is more than surviving the one she lost to the war; it is also her growth to a healthy mental state that is impressive. Her life as a royal swan is not as expected and what she lived through was both daunting and yet seductive. She was a sex slave and then sex toy to another shifter royalty. To categorize that royalty as sadistic would be mild. The kinks and tortures perpetrated upon her were both alarming and exciting. The emotional toll is what pained me.
Third, Dementor as her love interest worked so well because he also comes with baggage. His knows his limits and he isn’t a perfect alpha male. The joining of these two where their relationship takes a step forward and then a few steps back creates a realistic sexual tension. It causes a reader to become invested and hope that this will be a happily ever after.
Fourth, I loved the Roller Derby. I have a friend who plays but I never learned much about it other than she ended up bruised a lot and she loved being with her teammates. After learning how Roller Derby teams function, I’m a fan. Now I want to watch this sport and support it. The camaraderie is infectious. I love it.
Fifth and most seductive about this book is the kink. Oh my goodness, break out the vibrator. This book would have been finished quicker and the review coming out faster had I not needed several, not one but several “me time” breaks. When it comes to BDSM kink, Ms. Blevins is one of my top go to authors. The kink in this story is out of this world hawt. With the supernatural genre flexibility, it allows Ms. Blevins to merge her real life experiences with an intense creative license. I revel in her sexual scenes. Whilst many of the kinky acts are feasible, it is extreme and the ability to shift and heal the body is what makes it so attractive to me.
This book is more than just a kinky erotic romance. There is an underlying theme of community, acceptance and how the world moves on after loss. This erotic romance is high recommended to kinky readers who love their happily ever afters.
* I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this boo
After enduring an extensive battle, sadly some of our friends are gone. Rebuilding in a new city with our favourite motorcycle club, Rolling Thunder, it’s now time to move forward renewing friendships and meeting new members.
At it’s basic level it’s a story of complex people with deep emotions that sometimes interplay on a physical level and still others are on a profoundly emotional one.
We’re introduced to this big tough bear shifter and a swan princess who is searching for a new identity as a Roller Derby Queen.
Amid an extreme D/s relationship that is spectacularly severe, we find how it satisfies both of their needs. Also she unexpectedly finds she is almost the only one he shows his gentle side, taking care of her in all kinds of simple ways so very tenderly. Considering she has never had this before it’s easy to see why it affected her so deeply.
As with most new couples though, the road is not always easy what with it’s ups and downs and the same is true for them.
While enjoying the passionately erotic side of this book, I fell in love with their sweet romance.
Ms Blevins supplied another compelling book and once again I was so entranced that once started I couldn’t put it down until I reached the end. Then because I loved it, I promptly read it again.
Can I have a Dementor? Please?? I love this story! I’ve read all of the RTMC books and have enjoyed them but this one may be my favorite. Readers of Ms Blevins’ various series likely know, as I did, that this story falls after major world devastation. They are dealing with the loss of family and friends, and just “normal life” in general. This is a little strange to read with all of the changes currently happening in real life, but I was quickly sucked into the story and it separated itself from the current day to day quite nicely. (I will admit to wincing when travel to Seattle gets mentioned at one point, but hey, different world.)
Overall, Ember and Dementor clicked for me. In general, Ember knew what she wanted and needed and stood up for herself when necessary. However, there were a few moments that she irked me. I understood where she was coming from so while I was frustrated a bit on D’s behalf, I got it. Other than those few moments, I was all in with her. And, as previously mentioned, I want a Dementor of my own! That man is H O T and sweet and sexy and… I could go on. He’s a great balance while not being unrealistically perfect. He does have some negatives but he’s very good at stopping to think things through before he reacts.
The kink in this story is… OMG! Maybe I can just borrow him a bit now and again? He’ll just have to remember that I’m human and can’t shift and heal… However, having the ability to do that in the story allows some boundaries to be pushed that could be difficult in reality and it tends to just make things even hotter.
If I had to give any negatives, I will confess there was a small section I had to skim …I understood why it happened, but I was already a bit on the emotional side from real life stuff and it struck me wrong so I had to skim to get through it. If I was there, I’d probably have slugged someone… good thing it’s fiction, right? And I felt it ended kind of suddenly…that could be because I wanted more, more, more.
Overall, another awesome book to add to the library and read again and again. This is a spinoff of the existing RTMC series so you won’t see all of your favorites from Chattanooga, but we get to meet a new group of people in Birmingham. Still, a couple of favorite characters do show up. The only proviso I’ll add is… if you’re touchy about heavy kink… there are several other books by Ms Blevins I’d recommend to you, but maybe not this one. 🙂 If you’re good with kink, READ THIS BOOK…but stock up on batteries first.
Dementor is our introduction to the Birmingham chapter of the RTMC, though there are some familiar faces around. This story takes place post the-world-almost-ended, and the story focuses on the re-grouping and the re-growth of the characters and their world. Dementor is a grizzly shifter and Ember is swan, a swan prince to be exact. These two have perfectly aligning kinks, and they practice them frequently and enthusiastically. Physical intimacy is easily worked out between them, but the emotional side takes a bit more to achieve synergy. Even then, a few other forces and events cause disruptions, but all of these things solidify their bond
I loved the sexiness between Dementor and Ember, right from the start. The foibles and mistakes only showed the vulnerabilities, and made both characters all the more likable. Nothing was simple, but again, nothing was difficult either, things just were. The growth of their love together, even the difficult times, was a wonderful thing to read and observe. Bonus, we get some Aaron and Sophia screen time, and a walk-on of Queen Mab!
The world after epic battle is unsure and we are thrown into a new chapter of MC – Birmingham.
Ms Candace kicks ass with this new erotic romance. It is amazing and be ready for a hefty revelation. It is sweet with great and strong characters. For me this is also a journey about exploring and accepting your past. Coming to terms with wants and needs but being strong enough to explore more. Finally, it is also about the importance of community, belonging and family.
Dementor is a delicious sadist with a strong hand, but he is still very protective and even sweet. He is aware of his own limitation and is very supportive and helpful of Ember and her baggage. The romance between Ember and him is delicious and there many layers just waiting to be revealed. I loved their interaction and their kink was delightfully intense and hot. Ms Candace is skilled in this but here was even more hotness than usual. Damn but I had to reread some passages…
As for Ember, she is a survivor and I admired her. Her emotional baggage is more than any person could handle. Nevertheless, she became better and more mature because of it. Their chemistry and relationship worked in part because of what she was.
I was intrigued with Derby as we don’t have it here and I know it just from the movies, so I loved to read about it from her perspective.
I also love to read a book with characters (like Aaron) from previous books, It’s like a little insight into their afterlife. When I finish the book, I am always wondering what they are doing after a few years, how is their life and their relationships and so on.
So, go and buy this book, you are in for one intense kinky romance with HEA.
Dementor is the first book in a spin=off of the Rolling Thunder MC Chattanooga series. This tells of the brutal rebuilding of a swan shifter’s life. It is going to take a bit of what she suffered to bring her to a point where she knows what and who she wants. I liked Ember and ached for what she’d been through but rejoiced with every step she took to reclaiming her life. This story requires a strong stomach and a willingness to go through hell and come out the other side.
I do love the RTMC and am thrilled for the Birmingham chapter spin offs series! Candace Blevins knows how to write a story that grabs you right from the start and won’t let go. I loved Dementor and Ember’s story.
It’s a new normal for an old world. Survivors finding their way rebuilding old lives. Shifters finding love in new beginnings. Dementor and Ember leading the way in this new series by one of my favorite authors. Thanks for including one of my favorite sports….. Roller Derby!!
New RTMC Chapter to love! I have loved the Rolling Thunder MC since I first met Duke and have read the whole series several times. This one takes place in another city and has a it’s own personality but all the things that we love the RTMC for are there. There is just enough of the older characters to tie in but Birmingham haws its own personality. And Dementor and Ember are a great couple to introduce this new cast of characters with. They have the steamy and sexy chemistry that we expect from Candace and they also have a deep emotional connection. I loved it!
Dementor is the first book in the RTMC Birmingham chapter. A great book and a very enjoyable read. This book takes place after the big fight. Love the interaction between Dementor and Ember. Lots of kinky stuff going on. Loved the book and can’t wait for more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I say this over and over but it bears repeating. I never cease to be amazed by Candace Blevins wildly creative imagination. With Dementor, she once again hit the mark. While there is magic, shifters, the MC and lots of steamy scenes, this is first and foremost a love story. It’s about two people forging a relationship with lots of bumps along the way. Some of these bumps are highly unusual and the accompanying emotions run deep. Working through them only strengthens this duo in the end. Great reading!
Dementor & Ember, on paper are such a mismatch. She’s beauty, he’s the beast. She’s royalty, he’s a biker. She’s monogamus, he’s not. He’s a grizzly, she’s a swan. All that being said these two explode like the Fourth of July when they’re together. Ember is at a crossroads in her life and not quite sure how to deal. Moving forward and changing perspective seems the best course but letting go of who she was is harder than she thought. He is as supportive as he can be given the circumstances which may not be completely to his liking. Underneath it all he realizes how much he loves Ember and how much he wants her in his life. She too, learns the same thing as she finally understands what true love is.
I absolutely loved this book.
The story was very well written
and full of sizzle.
Dementor and Ember had loads of steamy and sexy chemistry.
Dementor is a grizzly bear shifter and Ember is a swan shifter.
It was great to see characters from other books.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book from an
advanced reader copy.
If I could give this book 10 stars I would, that’s how much I enjoyed it. Candace Blevins takes us into a new city with the Rolling Thunder MC. Dementor and Ember’s story was very involved, at times I had to stop and take a breath. It is heavy with kink, so be warned if it’s not your cup of tea. It’s totally my cup of tea, so much so that I read it in two days and that’s after work 12 hour shifts.
Candace writes amazingly strong females, Ember is bad ass. Dementor doesn’t tame her, he not only brings out her submissive side, but helps in getting over things from her past. I am so glad to have taken this journey with them, seeing them explore their relationship and see them fall in love.
I love the Rolling Thunder MC and have read the whole series. This one takes place in another city and has a different feel but all the reasons why I love this series are still here in the story. There just enough to have a connection with the older character but still have a feel of a completely different MC also its a great read and you will not be disappointed.
Dementor and Ember first meet in a strictly professional setting. They even progress to the bedroom within hours of meeting and it is still kind of matter of fact, a necessity.
But it becomes clear very soon those two are uniquely well matched in their approach to the RACK side of the BDSM spectrum. For them it is not a game, but a necessity. Both being strong personalities they are equally strongly falling for each other. But there are some expected hurdles to overcome and some… well, lets say rather fiery ones!
This is our first encounter with the Birmingham Chapter of the RTMC and it is promising, to say the least!
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Candace Blevins’ stories and I was super excited to find out that she’s starting to release books in her latest series on the Birmingham RTMC and Dementor did not disappoint. In fact, this one, for me, ranks right below “The Gifted” in terms of amazing relationship building throughout the novel. And just when I was wrestling with which one had the better relationship, Ms. Blevins threw a major whammy into the story that took the entertainment value way over the top. If you’re not familiar with Candace Blevins, then I highly recommend choosing one of her series and start at the beginning. What you’ll learn…Ms Blevins is fantastic at storytelling; she knows how to build amazing characters where the details are absolutely amazing and truly bring these stories to life. She also does an amazing job of blending paranormal aspects with real life and she makes it seem seamless. And I’d be completely remiss if I left out all the romance elements, which are all smoking hot. Can’t wait for the next one.
Candance Blevins delivers another book with the RTMC guys and their ladies. If you don’t read her urban fantasy books and I don’t it’s ok because there’s not but a few references to the big battle. Birmingham is rebuilding after it but won’t be lost.
When Dementor and Ember meet, I’m not sure if either are really looking for a relationship. But they have a strong connection and at one point Ember runs scared. Ember is keeping a big secret and she doesn’t know how Dementor is going to react. Instead of trusting him with it, she worries and hangs on to it until she has to tell him. This does not change Ember’s nature as she’s a strong, sassy, take care of herself lady. Dementor is definitely an alpha that wants to take care of his lady without clipping her wings. He cares deeply for Ember and knows she’s worth it but at times he could be very easily hurt because of his feelings.
This book is very heavy in the kink department so don’t return the book because you have been warned! But it is so good and shows Mrs. Blevins’ strength as a writer so you won’t be sorry you bought it!
When your world has survived the BIG BATTLE between good & evil, things will be different. Unfortunately, even though the good side won, not all all the good guys survived. This book is the story of some people who survived with great losses.
Dementor is one who survived in hard-hit Birmingham. He’s a grizzly shifter and is one of the guys trying to put his MC and life back together. He meets Ember, a swan shifter, who runs a safe-house for her Swan King & Queen. Ember is a busy girl – running a safe house, playing roller derby, and going to college.
Their romance seems more like a hook-up at the beginning because neither one is looking for anything long-term. They just have too much going on. However, when the sex is exactly right for each of them, they want to see more of each other and they discover that they LIKE each other. As they navigate past life issues (more for Ember than Dementor), they slowly grow towards a full relationship.
It wouldn’t be a Candace Blevins book without a real conflict to resolve. Their conflict is a doozy and it ends up involving the Dragon King and Faery. That part hit hard for me, as it really shows how well thought out this world is. Powerful beings will be taught restraint by any means necessary.
In the end, the relationship between Ember and Dementor is built on a secure footing. They balance each other and are quite happy.
Candace’s style of writing really pulls you into the life of her characters. Just enough detail to get you into the flow of life but not so much that you want to skip ahead. Her attention to detail on the BDSM parts and the working out of relationship issues are just as much of a draw as the romance and paranormal world for me.
I am not 100% sure you could read this book and get all the references without having read some of her previous books. I am sure you could enjoy the book if this is the first one you pick up but you would probably then jump into prior books to find out what you missed.
If you are not into reading about BDSM, this one will have parts you may want to skip. I’d say read them lightly but do read them as those times really show the relationship between the two characters and how it builds and grows and tangles up.
