At eighteen-years-old, I made a promise with my best friend in high school. If neither one of us were married by age thirty-two, we would marry each other. Now Miles Warner is back in town and wants to cash in on that promise we made all those years ago. The fact that Miles is still unmarried and single baffles me. The young man I remembered from high school has grown into one of the most … most handsome men I’ve ever laid eyes on. And he refuses to take no for an answer. You see, he needs a bride, and I’m his last resort. Romantic, isn’t it?
Well, no thank you. That is not going to happen.
At least that’s what I keep telling myself. But as the days pass by and Miles settles back into life in our hometown, I find myself falling head over heels in love with him. Again.
What is the lesson I’ve learned, you ask?
Nevermake a promise you don’t intend to keep.

Oh Miles and Kynslee, what a good couple they make.
Apart fro wanting to bash both their heads together for a while, well mainly Miles….
They had great banter, the storyline was lovely, with some poignant moments.
I especially loved Rowdy, what a giggle it was reading about him.
Kelly Elliott has a way of making you want to know everything but at the same time you don’t want the story to end. She captures your heart, so that you feel like a fly on the wall.
The characters are very well written, with a lovely structured story, with the peripheral characters adding a further dimension to the story.
Really enjoyed the second installment of what’s turning out to be a funny, lovely series.
I loved this book! I didn’t want to put it down. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book that has grabbed my attention like this one.
I fell in love with a lot of the characters in this book and really wish we got a story for all the secondary characters. Heather and Kenny, Annie and Trey!!!
I loved Miles and Kynslee! They are perfect! Loved Rowdy the rooster!!!! There were definitely some funny parts that included Rowdy!!
Kynslee is an amazing character! I love how deeply she loves!! I love how she is with Miles and her friends!
Miles is a bit of an idiot at times!! I swear he needed to be slapped a few times!
I loved this book. So far I’ve loved every book in this series!! I cannot wait for the next book!!
I really loved Delicate Promises, the second book in the Southern Bride series by Kelly Elliott. I could not put it down. I really enjoyed Love At First Sight, the first book in the Southern Bride series and decided to read more books in the series. Kelly Elliott has shown that she is a wonderful storyteller. I loved all the characters and the charm of Hunt, Texas where the story takes place. I enjoy how the book is written in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting into the minds of the main characters. Who doesn’t love a second chance at love story. Delicate Promises is the story of Kynslee Maxwell and Miles Warner, who were best friends in high school. Kynslee and Miles shared their first kisses and virginity with one another, Kynslee was in love with Miles until he broke her heart and enlisted in the Marine Corps following graduation. Prior to Miles’s leaving, he and Kynslee made a promise to each other, if they were not married by the age of thirty, they would marry each other. Miles manages to always call and send a present to Kynslee on her birthday. For her thirtieth birthday, no present comes in the mail. On her birthday, Miles shows up with an engagement ring and wants to “cash in” on their promise, a promise that Kynslee never took seriously. Miles is finally home for good, after leaving the Marines. Kynslee and Miles start dating, and they each confess that they have always been in love. Then a surprise plot twist changes everything. Delicate Promises is a beautifully written second chance love story, that is filled with bittersweet and poignant moments. I just love a surprise plot twist that I did not see coming. So glad that in the end that Kynslee and Miles got their happily ever after. I loved their wedding. My favorite part was the loving advice that Kynslee’s Dad, Steve gives her on her wedding day. Delicate Promises had me laughing and crying. It was an incredible story. Kelly Elliott delivered an amazing love story. So looking forward to reading Divided Interests.
Beautifully written, an incredible story and absolutely fantastic characters. This second chance, small-town romance is a definite read. The authors talent in drawing you in and you feeling like you’re on the journey with the characters is amazing.
I love everything Kelly writes and this book was so good. Kynslee is a very head strong independent woman and Miles, poor guy, just kept saying the wrong thing. Haha! Friends to lovers book. I really like this series because they are all standalones. Can’t wait to read the third book.
I adore Kelly Elliott!! She is my new favorite writer. She makes you feel what her characters are feeling. Love this book so much.
Kynslee and Miles are so perfect for one and other. Lifelong best friends who harbor stronger feelings for each other. After 12 years in the Marines Miles is ready to come home and start his new life. That includes finally making Kynslee his wife. These two have 12 years of miscommunication and unspoken words between them. Loved it so much.
I am so in love with Kynslee and Miles’s love story. The promise these two made at such a young age held so much truth. Reading about Kynslee heart breaking multiple times tore me but when you get the truth behind it all you will swoon. I was not prepared for that little twist at the end in regards to the farm and the love letter had me in tears. Kelly the ending truly made my heart happy. Can’t wait for whats to come.
A great friends to lovers’/second chance romance by Kelly Elliott. I love her work and this was no exception. Kynslee and Miles were so great together. The attraction and the chemistry between them was radiating off the pages. They were each other’s first and they made a promise 12 years ago that by the time they were thirty and not married, they would marry each other. I loved watching them slowly find their way back to each other. They had a lot of starts and stop until they were able to reach the happy that they both deserve. You are going to feel each emotion that they are feeling as you are reading this book. You will be along for the ride right along with them and it was a wonderful ride. I can’t wait to read more from this series and from Ms. Elliott.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
5 He’s a Big Bad Marine Stars!!
I’m SO LOVING this series by one of my favorite authors. In this second book we get Miles and Kynslee’s story and these two are a hoot!! He’s just such a MAN!! They’ve been best friends since they were children and made this over the top promise to each other about when they were 30 and if still single they’d get married.
Well, while they’ve reached this magic age, their friendship isn’t quite what it used to be and when Miles comes home after serving his country in a variety of ways, he’s going after the girl he’s always loved! Kynslee however, she’s not so keen on this.
Miles has hurt her in so many ways and she’s not willing to risk her heart again. But I loved how he wouldn’t give up…now how he went about it, I cringed on several occasions. He just doesn’t know when to stop when he opens his mouth sometimes…and then there’s Rowdy the Rooster who provided many moments of hilarity.
Watching these two fall back in love was so fabulous. There’s swoony moments, moments of passion so hot that I needed a cool drink and just the right amount of angst! These two have a history that can’t be denied and once Kynslee can see that Miles is really the man for her they’ll have a fighting chance!
Ms. Elliott has delivered another winner in this series and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
“I want you to know that I love you so much. I’ve always loved you, and I will forever love you.”
*swoons* *sighs*
Wow Kelly sure knows how to keep making me fall in love with all of her Hero’s. My list of Book Boyfriends is growing oh so much haha.
Kelly seriously she knows how to write the best small town romance books.
This book was just so darn perfect even though Miles kept saying all the wrong things to Kynslee he soon sorted himself out lol.
From the Prologue I was hooked. I just knew that Miles and Kynslee would have alot to go through for them to get their happily ever after.
Miles did what he thought was right going into the marines but he broke Kynslee’s heart in the process. She loved him so much and he loved her too. But they were always best friends and never became anything more. Then they make the pact that if they werent married by the time their 30 they would marry eachother.
I literally LOVED this book so much from start to finish I just couldnt put it down. I laughed so much at the part with Rowdy hahaha once you read this you’ll laugh too. I cried those sad and happy tears and swooned oh so much.
Well done Kelly love xx
This book gives me all the fuzzy cozy feels. Kelly Elliott delivers all the swoons with this friends to lovers, second chance romance. Miles and Kynslee are soul mates written in the stars. From the moment Miles walked back onto Kynslee’s farm, it was fireworks!! Chemistry exploding all over the pages!!! Emotions, frustration, sheer mind explosions everywhere! This story was going to be a wild ride.
Kelly Elliott lined it up and knocked it out of the park. I’m completely charmed by Miles’ southern drawl and cowboy ways. He knows how to lay it on just right. He can take my breath away any day. Kynslee is pure fire. Not only does she not know what to make of Miles’ sudden return to their small town, but what to make of him and his strong (muscles) impressions, the man comes on strong.
Their romance took me on an emotional roller coaster. I was 1000% in for this ride. I felt every page, every look, every smile. My heart is overfilled, and that is the sign of a wonderful romance. There wa s ever a doubt that Miles and Kynslee were “it” for each other, getting there is the best part of their story. Book 2 of The Southern Brides series will melt you. Get the tissues ready, you’ll be tearing up for sure!
Once again, Kelly Elliott has gifted us with another fantastic story, one I found hard to put down once I started reading. I loved the chemistry between Miles and Kynslee, made all that much sweeter given how long they’ve been best friends. Of course there’s always more when it comes to feelings and matters of the heart, but unfortunately for these two, timing was never on their side. We get to see all of their strengths and weaknesses, and goodness knows Miles is absolutely hilarious, sometimes without intending to come off that way. Another BIG issue with these two is communication, or a lack thereof. Some of the angst and drama could have been spared if they learned to be direct with each other, but that’s also a big reason why we love to read stories like this: to see if and how the characters will learn to open themselves up fully and reach their HEA.
What a great read! The character development as well as the growth of each character was amazing. I particularly like that this series can be read as of it was a standalone since every book is new unrelated characters. Definite must read for any Kelly fan!!
Whoa! Cue sexual tension and angst! I adored this book! Kynslee and Miles have a history. They were there for each other in many ways growing up and they are more than best friends. Kelly made me feel for these characters and I was quickly lost in their world! I love the small town they live in, their relationships with their families and the friendship between them.
No one writes romance quite like author Kelly Elliott. Very few authors give readers stories that are unique with each and every book release. Mrs. Elliott does just that and once again with the release of Delicate Promises the 2nd book in her Southern Bride series. Each novel in her Southern Bride series is a stand alone and can be read in any order.
Delicate Promises gives us the story of Kynslee and Mike. The best of friends they have shared many experiences together….they’ve been the main stay for one another. That anchor is life that another needs, that’s what they’ve been for each other. Through all the heartache the teen years can bring to ultimately the day that broke Kynslee’s heart. That day, they make a promise to marry at the age of 30 if both are single.
People come and go….time marches on. Kynslee still living that sweet home town life. She hasn’t forgotten her best friend from years ago. She has to be honest, a part of her heart is still his. She hears from Mike, every birthday she receives a call an a gift. Not this year?? Her thirtieth birthday and nothing. No call, no gift. She has no clue the biggest surprise of all is about to walk back into her life.
Through all the years that have passed, Mike has never forgotten his friendship with Kynslee. NO matter the circumstance or where he is, that birthday call has always happened. Now Mike is back in town and he has a little surprise for Kynslee. However things don’t go exactly as he has planned. Lets be honest, that reunion goes no where as he had planned. What woman wouldn’t want to fulfill a promise made at age 18. One thing is for certain, Mike doesn’t plan on taking no for an answer. He has his mind set on Kynslee and a life together. He is flying by the seat of his pants in the relationship department but giving up is not an option.
Kynslee is not having any of it. How can he expect her to keep a promise made at the age of 18. Who does that…..Mike that’s who. One thing is certain, he still makes her heart race just as it did years ago. He can bring feelings to light she had kept hidden for so many years. Now he has found himself needing a bride. There is no way this is going to happen but the more time she spend with Mike, the more that wall she built around her heart begins to fall. Can she trust her heart with the one person who broke it. How can one promise change two lives?
I cannot rave enough about author Kelly Elliott. Each book she writes has such a unique feel, no cookie cutter romances here. She is a word wizard. How she brings characters and their stories to life is a beautiful art. When you can close your eyes and see the scene you are reading, that to me is the work of an amazing author. From laughter, tears, heartache and anger. Mrs. Elliott brings each of these feeling to life in this book. Delicate Promises is an amazing read!!!! Now bring on the next book!
Delicate Promises is the second title in the Southern Bride series, but is essentially a standalone title.
Delicate Promises is an emotional, angsty and heartwarming read, full of drama, heat and humor. It’s a second chance, small town, friends to lovers romance that spans more than a decade.
Miles is loving, loving and charismatic, and his heart is always in the right place, but he’s also incredibly clueless when it comes to women and relationships.
Kynslee is driven, determined and strong and she won’t settle for anything but true love. She’s been hurt in the past and the pain and fears have left her a little gun shy and bitter when it comes to trusting the opposite sex, especially one man in particular. She’s quite realistic and I loved that she made Miles work for her affections.
The chemistry that Kynslee and Miles shares is undeniable, and it just oozes off the page.
At times the push and pull between this pair frustrated me to no end, but I still couldn’t put this title down and will be eagerly awaiting the next Southern Bride title.
Miles and Kynslee have been best friends and have been through everything together. They’ve been in love with each other but haven’t put it all on the line and told the other how they felt. Then Miles breaks her heart but they make a pact. He comes home to collect but goes about it ALL wrong.
Good lord, it’s like he turned into a moron when it came to Kynslee. He just keeps digging himself deeper with the words that come out of his mouth and some of the things that he does. I will admit I laughed out loud though when it came to his fear of the rooster. I mean you have this hot as heck retired military man screaming from a rooster. Cracked me up!
Will he get his poop in a group and figure out where he’s going wrong before Kynslee gives up for the last time? Loved the families in this, the town and just about everything with this book!!
KELLY DOES IT AGAIN! Miles and Kynslee have been best friends since they were kids, and throughout the years they have leaned on each other through the hard times and supported each other through the great ones. But after high school, Miles decides to go into the armed forces, leaving Kynslee devastated. They make a pact to get married by the time they’re thirty if they’re both single, and over the years while they both spend time with other people, end up still being single at thirty. I honestly can’t say enough great things not only about Kelly but also about this book! Without giving much away, the pact becomes somewhat of an issue between them, but it’s really just because Miles is acting like a typical guy. This is a total friends to lovers type of storyline, but really these two are soul mates and you can tell in the prologue that their story will be a little rocky but well worth it in the end. Two strong characters make the book and I just absolutely adored it! I can’t wait for the next book in this series, especially because these are somewhat stand alones. While they are part of this series, the books themselves don’t intersect at all, so it makes it interesting to see the similarities and why Kelly grouped them together.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I’m a sucker for a romance story that has been years in the making, especially one that started with a promise between two best friends and ended, albeit after years apart and a litany of missteps, with an opportunity of forever. And while nothing seemed to go as planned, not the amount of time Miles spent away from his hometown and the love of his life or the way he couldn’t seem to express his feelings in a way that would make Kynslee believe in his love and trust that he would never leave her again, in their heart of hearts, they were fated to be together, to make a go at a life together that no-one else could given one another.
Because readers are privy to the reasons behind Miles’ decision to remain away from his hometown for an additional five years, we know his true feelings for Kynslee. But she doesn’t know what’s in Miles’ heart because he seems to suffer from foot in mouth disease anytime he tries to prove how much she owns his heart.
Miles’ reasons for wanting to marry Kynslee go way beyond their adolescent promise to each other and her being his last resort is not something that holds credence, but, once again, Kynslee only goes off of all the wrong things he says to her and the pain that she’s carried since Miles first left for the Marines.
I get Kynslee’s bitterness and her belief that Miles doesn’t truly want to marry her because he loves her, and I can’t say that I blame her for distrusting him, for questioning his motives, for worrying that he’d up and leave her again, but once she let go of some of her pain and fears, she saw Miles for who he truly is and what he truly wants, which made my frustration over their antics a little more tolerable, even if there were plenty of times I wanted to throttle one or both of them.
Second chance romances are some of my absolute favorites because there’s a history between the characters and a foundation that can help heal the heartache experienced. Miles and Kynslee may have needed to work for their happily ever after, but they understood it would be worth it in the end if they could overcome their issues and make their delicate promise all those years ago, a reality.
