I had no idea what to expect from this book. It isn’t my usual read so it could have gone either way. To be honest, I wasn’t really into it at first. However, I stuck with it and it turned out to be a interesting story on the moral dilemma of how far to go when technology gives you access to people’s memories. With some suspense, philosophical deliberations, and a bit of romance, this is a great book for the YA genre.

Deleted by Ruth Mitchell
Deleted is a unique and thought-provoking young adult novel. The story was original and the characters and storyline both seemed authentic and real. The futuristic technology side and the idea of mind hacking are very cool. The book blurb reminded me of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, so I just had to read it. There are so many possibilities with technology like that, both good and bad things. It didn’t disappoint and the story definitely held my attention. The story has a little romance, sci-fi, action, and some ethical dilemmas in it. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys imagining what our futures could be like. This author did really well at creating a good story with descriptive imagery and the writing style worked well for me.
Deleted by Ruth Mitchell was a great, intriguing novel! I was immediately captured in this book and had a hard time putting it down! This technology filled book read perfect for just about any age. It seemed like the technology schematics in the novel is very reminiscent of what our future could hold, in terms of how advanced technology is getting and by how much our phones and gadgets rule our lives. I’ve never read a novel quite like this one before and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! I can’t wait to more from Mitchell in the future and I highly recommend this novel!
Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is a YA sci-fi story with a fast moving plot and has you wondering if the future could behold truths which Ruth has written about. It is definitely a story that gets you thinking along with lots of questions about technology today and what it could mean for the future. I was intrigued with the story and Ruth’s world building. I was a bit thrown at first with the way the narrative changed between characters but once I worked it out I settled in for the adventure. With suspense and mystery, danger and drama and with everything from darkness to lightness it is a little twisty, thrilling and surprising read.
Lucy finds herself in a race against time to stop a hacker who is able to delete memories and change and rewrite their history.
I am looking forward to seeing what Ruth will bring us next.
Deleted is the first book I have read by Ruth Mitchell, and I am glad to have come across it. This is one of the most amazing books I have read this year. It made you think so much, and wonder, because something like this could really happen in the future. It wasn’t so futuristic that its sci-fi, but technology you can actually envision. The book focuses around two pieces of technology- that is like wearing a smart phone in your sunglasses, and a mind reader. You can talk to the phone and it will answer and follow your commands. It has apps that can translate in real time, tell you someone’s name with a brief biography, or look something up for you. But with great power comes great temptations and risks. Someone has learned to mind hack, altering and erasing memories. To wake up one day and have your boyfriend or girl friend be a complete stranger. This happens to Lucy and Marco, and they must work together (as strangers) to try to stop it from happening again and again. Highly recommend this book. Not my normal genre, but so happy to have taken the chance on it.
Lucy refuses to conform and rely on the technology that is a world wide phenomenon. Spex’s are glasses that record the wearer’s experiences, communicate, read, essentially record your entire life. Spex’s are controlled by the wearer’s thoughts aka a mindseye. Lucy learns to be a mindhack and discovers another mindhacker for profit, Nick.
No one remembers Nick, literally. He erases himself from the Spexs of everyone he meets. When Nick finds out Lucy knows about him, he becomes obsessed and determined to find her.
Will Nick succeed in finding Lucy and delete her memories of him?
This story was a wild ride. The technology, science, and how the world depends on it is so realistic. It was a little slow in the beginning, BUT I promise it will pull you. Deleted is a thrilling action packed sci-fi romance.
This is my first novel by Ruth Mitchell. Set just a few years into the future, Deleted is a fascinating exploration of how new technology changes (or will change) the way we see each other and the world around us, it’s a fun/funny read too. The characters are realistic and I cared and wondered about each of them. I loved their love story and how bound together they were throughout this twisty, fast-paced, future-set novel.
This is outstanding! It’s a suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat and Turing pages late into the night. The flow and way the story was told made it easy to follow along. The story is so different that it intrigued me. Futuristic and not all at the same time. The ending was a shock! Not what I expected to happen at all. But in a way so perfect. The characters are realistic and I cared and wondered about each of them. Nick, Marco and Lucy are smart. Like impressively smart. Each of the secondary characters were excellent. They each played their parts perfectly. Not too much or too little.
I was a little confused at first getting the story set up. BUT HANG IN THERE! Your socks will be blown off! This is a first time author for me. I loved this and will be recommending to others as well as keeping any eye on this author.
Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is so far one of the best novels that I have read. Mitchell knows how to take an ordinary life and make it seem extremely complicated. A love story gone wrong and trying to fix it is the best part. Deleted is a read that i would recommend even to a teenager because it has real world applications that would benefit everyone who reads. A five star rating and recomend!

4 Stars!!!!
This is the first book by this author I have read and I was not let down. I only read this type of book every so often as I am more into romance but I like to have a bit of a break. This was a refreshing read. The author has a very unique plot and the characters really jump off of the pages.
I must admit that the whole idea of one’s memories being deleted is quite a scary thought. I really felt as though I was in the midst of the action and right there beside the characters. I really could relate with Lucy and even Karen. I like how the author filled the book with intrigue and action. I would like to read more by this author in the future.
Deleted is a great science fiction novel by Ruth Mitchell. This is a genre that I don’t normally read but for some reason was attracted by the blurb. It did take me a little bit to get into the book but that’s just because it’s different from what I’m used to reading. Once I got into the story I was hooked and couldn’t wait to find out how the story panned out.
Set in the 2040’s this book is about being able to read, manipulate and erase people’s memories. It’s very futuristic and if this is the future we face in just over 20 years, I really don’t want to be part of it.
Student Lucy Campbell has a crush on Grad student and wonderkid Marco Han. A chance meeting between them triggers the start of a budding relationship. A relationship that is fraught with danger and adventure. Lucy is being sought out by strange character Nick who we know very little about. She’s sure he wants to erase her memories.
Lucy and Marco along with members of both their families take the reader on a great adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat at times. Once hooked, I did not want to put this book down, even taking it to work to read on my lunchbreak.
If you’ve never given science fiction a go, this would be a great place to start.
I was unprepared for this riveting journey. This felt too real to be disregarded as complete fiction. I felt that Mitchell embraced the technology we currently deem possible and projected us into a reality that feels just around the corner. Thought provoking and stirring, this book will keep you guessing and will make you think. Loved it.
Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is a fantastic romance/mystery novel set in the not to distant future. In a world where technology is everywhere Lucy refuses to conform to the societal norm and refuses to let technology rule her life. Everyone is Lucy’s knows relies on the technology known as “Spexs” which record your whole life, sounds perfect until Lucy discovers that this technology can be used for more nefarious purposes. After Lucy and her boyfriend stumble across someone they shouldn’t while investigating memories, Lucy wakes to find her whole life is gone, and she is being hunted by a formidable foe. I would recommend this book to lovers of this genre. As someone who is addicted to technology, it definitely made me think of the future.
Deleted by Ruth Mitchell a four-star read you won’t want to delete from your collection. This was a thrilling ride of a read, the take is fascinating and will keep you hooked as there is so much going on it could be too overpowering but the author has a great way of keeping it all together and making it all make sense. This was a great story that will make you care and make you worry about technology and its part in or lives. What I enjoyed most though was the fact that I thought I knew where the story was going then boom, plot twist and the rug was pulled, it just makes a rich and complex story. I am only bumping it to four-stars as there were a couple of messy quips, but I am sure they will only get better the more this author writes.
This story is a futuristic world of all it’s own. Honestly don’t think over ever read anything like this story. This was definitely a great book and I couldn’t put it down at all. Piqued my interest for other books of this type as well.
Deleted by Ruth Mitchell. This is the story of Lucy who is a college Freshman who learns to mindhack! It all begins when she informs her sister Mollie about her crush on Marco and she also confides that she has learned how to access and erase people’s memories. In the not too distant future everyone will wear smart glasses called Spex. Spex can record their experiences, communicate, read, watch movies and search the internet without touch or sound. Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is a fantastic futuristic YA sci-fi story that whisks us to a possible future and gives us glimpse of what could be. There we meet Lucy and Marco, and get swept up on an adventure where tech addiction is gripping the planet, and how she discovers that it is now possible to delete another person’s memory, and rewrite their history. She ends up in a cat and mouse game in a race against time, and memory- to outwit and outplay a memory hacker who has her in his sights. Who will win out in the end? This is well worth the read to find out.
Even though this is a Young Adult novel, it can be enjoyed by all ages from young teens through to the vintage years. It has a bit of a techno-thriller feel to it, that is full of mystery, drama, romance, danger, humour, and superb world building. It is a thought-provoking, highly imaginative, and wonderfully original read.
Ruth Mitchell paints a fascinating, and entirely plausible future picture that intrigued me from start to finish. I read it in one sitting, as I didn’t want to put it down. There were times that the story was a little predictable, but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story- and there were enough twists and dramatic developments to keep me turning he page to find out what would happen next.
Deleted is my first read by Ruth Mitchell, and I am happy to say that it definitely won’t be the last! This appears to be her debut novel, so I am looking forward to seeing what else she can/will do.
Looking forward to more!
Thank you, Ruth Mitchell!
Deleted, by Ruth Mitchell, is a fantastic, near future novel. It has you wanting to keep reading to find out what happens. It is thought provoking and a new concept novel, both of which can be rare to find.
It looks ahead, but not too far, so things still feel familiar but have some added technology. “Spex” has taken over from phones and iPads, everything is thought controlled. Perfect, right? But, what happens when you can’t trust your own thoughts, you can’t trust that what you remember is accurate, and some memories have been eradicated entirely.
Lucy is a fairly traditional girl, she’s a book loving college student just embarking on life’s adventures. When she embarrasses herself in front of the guy she fancies she’d do just about anything to make him forget, and she finds out that her sister Mollie can actually help her do this.
Lucy’s life takes some unexpected turns, she experiences highs and lows but whatever the memories she knows she wants to keep them, which is why she runs after becoming tangled with the mysterious Nick, a memory hacker.
This is a brilliant book, and suitable for adults and young adults alike, I would definitely recommend it.
Deleted by Ruth Mitchell. This story was out of my normal of reading pleasure but I was definitely pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the journey. It’s a very original story unlike anything I’ve read and I was hooked. The characters bring the story to life and completely draw you into their world. I was up well into the night because I simply had to know where this story was going and I couldn’t put it down until I knew. Each page had me trying to read faster and slower at the same time. The characters are complex and well developed. The storyline is unique and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Very impressed by this story and author. Four big stars and highly recommended. Can’t wait to see more from this author.
Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is a suspenseful and original story that had me hooked right from page 1. The author has created such an intriguing concept.
I found the whole book to be well thought out exciting to read. It felt like I never quite knew what might happen to Lucy which meant that I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of it.
This is one of the mouse interesting, cat and mouse type stories that I have read, the whole book was just amazing. It is the first book that I have read by this author but it certainly will not be the last. I would highly recommend this book!
