History is on repeat, and things didn’t go so well the last time. Alexandria isn’t sure she’s going to make it to her eighteenth birthday–to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she’s a goner… and so is Aiden. If that’s not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time “training”–which really … “training”–which really is just Seth’s code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time–she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she’s caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed… and destroyed. Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate…more
This was amazing! The spiral of the characters broke my heart. The gods were included without it being too cheesy, which I loved.
“You’re the only person who has control over who you become. You’re too strong to ever lose yourself. I believe that. Why can’t you?”
Alex is back in North Carolina after what happened at the Covenant in New York and her 18th birthday is quickly approaching. With her 18th birthday comes her Awakening which Alex is dreading because she has no idea what will become of her once it happens. She is afraid of losing herself and becoming a person that she is not. She loves Aiden but cannot have him and has also told Seth that she would try to see where things with them could go. However, as time goes on she begins to feel that she cannot trust Seth and her feelings for Aiden do not lessen.
There is so much action in this book and so many things happen that it makes it extremely difficult to write a spoiler-free review. So instead of talking about what happens I’m going to talk about the characters starting with Alex. She goes through so much in this book that I would break a normal person and while she has her moments where she is scared and confused she is still strong and wiling to fight and do what she believes is right.
I did not like Seth in Half-Blood but he started to win me over in Pure. He was there for Alex when she needed someone. He was sweet and he took care of her and while I did not want Alex to be with him I still saw some good in him. That changed in this book. He lies to Alex repeatedly as well as continuously keeping things from here. Later he was giving off some vibes that were seriously disturbing to me. A part of me hurts for him because he is being used by Lucian, who by the way I despise with everything in me, and he either can’t or won’t see it.
Now on to Aiden. Oh Aiden. I both love him and hate him in this book, especially near the beginning. I know why he does what he does and that it’s because he is trying to protect Alex, but it doesn’t make the pain any less. There is an exchange between Alex and Aiden that occurs when he is trying to help her overcome her fear of losing herself:
“I’m afraid of something.”
“What?” I whispered.
He drew in a deep, shuddering breath. “I’m afraid of never being allowed to feel what I do.”
Things like that are what make me love him even when I hate him. And lets be honest I don’t really hate him, I’m just extremely unhappy with him. Aiden does eventually make up for it all and shows himself to be a wonderful swoon worthy book boyfriend.
The last 10 chapters of this book are a roller coaster ride of emotions. There are some difficult and heart breaking moments that had me crying. And the ending!! It’s gut wrenching and I need to go read Elixir right now!
“I can’t keep pretending that I don’t want this – that I don’t want you. Not after what happened to you. I thought…I thought I’d lost you, Alex, forever. And I would’ve lost everything. You are my everything.”
“Against all odds and common sense, Aiden had slipped under my skin, wrapped himself around my heart and embedded himself into my bones. He was a part of me and…All of me – my heart and my soul- would always belong to him.”
It has been a while since I first read the Covenant series, so I forgot all the emotions I associated with it. I remember all the major plot points, but there are so many things I have forgotten about. Reading Deity has made all those long forgotten emotions rush back and I was taken back by the sheer force of them.
Deity takes place a week after the events in the Pure . Shit is just after hitting the fan and Seth and Alex have made it safely back to their Covenant. They continue with their relationship that they refuse to put a label on while Alex continues to be in love with Aiden. It is a rather weird set up they have going on there.
I remember strongly disliking Seth from my first read through the Covenant series , but then when I read the Titan series last year, I have forgiven him for all that he has done and slightly forgotten why I disliked him in the first place. Reading Deity has made me remember with a vengeance. He is such a little conceited jerkface and he has managed to bring his douchery to a whole new level in this book. I swear I wanted to reach into the pages and shake some sense into him. But at the same time, I could not help myself but feel a bit sorry for him, because all Seth ever wanted was acceptance and approval, and Lucian has exploited that.
Alex has gone through some major character growth in this book. She is few months shy of 18, of the age when she “awakens”, and she has no idea what will happen. Will she remain the same old Alex, or will the Awakening change her? She is trying to make the most out of a crappy situation, while still remaining fearless, fiercely loyal, foolishly brave and compassionate. The one thing that irked me about Alex is her picking Seth just because she could not have Aiden. While Seth and Alex were not in a proper relationship and they have decided to only see where things go, I felt that it still wasn’t right of her to start anything with Seth while she was in love with Aiden. I almost skipped the parts where Alex and Seth would be spending some “quality time” together, because it just did not sit right with me. I almost had to bleach my eyes after those parts.
I fell even deeper in love with Aiden in this book, if that’s even possible. He really upped his game in this book and I loved seeing the loving, softer side of him. While I knew that he had to feel something for Alex even though he repeatedly told her he doesn’t, it warmed my heart to see him lay all the cards on the table, and finally let Alex know how he truly felt. I completely swooned over him in this book.
I don’t want to give too much away, so I will only say that this book will gut you. It will cut you right open and you will love every second of it. It will make you feel frustrated, hopeful, giddy, hopeless, excited and flabbergasted. It is also full of heart-attack inducing and jaw-dropping moments. The ending will have you reeling because that cliffhanger is the freaking mother of all cliffhangers. By the time I turned the last page I was only holding on with my finger tips. Definitely the best installment yet!
(Reread Review)
Deity is the third book in the Covenant series and its basically when the shit hits the fan.
We start with Alex dealing with the events that happened in the last chapters of Pure, and we don’t have time to even wrap our minds about everything when another bomb is drop….. I got to say…I KNEW IT!!!!! Not who it was but the rest. Still I got all excited, and worried as Alex, her struggling feelings, not only for this but for everything that has happened and for what is to come, get to the reader and let me tell you, her fears are legit…
Alex changes a bit in this book, she grows as a character, as things continue to happen around her. But she is so strong and she keeps fighting, of course, with everything she starts to have doubts but she is a damn fighter!
To me this book its when Aiden is at his best till this point of the series, after Pure and now everything else, he is there for Alex and things take another turn between them in this book. Aiden is just so sweet! I wanna say perfect, but he isn’t perfect he has his flaws like everyone, but he is perfect got Alex. They have magic moments in this book.
We also get a lot of new information in this book! The pieces of the puzzle come together in this book and like I said before that’s when the shit hits the fan. Telly is a SOB so big that he manages for me to hate him more than Lucian, and I though that was impossible. I know that Lucian’s fakeness its more worrisome then Telly open hate but the guy really makes me hate him.
And then Seth…. Its pretty stablished by now that I love Seth, so this book breaks my heart, we seem him start to change chapter by chapter, those last few chapters I was screaming at him, same as Alex! Deity is always the book that gets me to the feels cuz of this part, I want to shake him to reason, to understand the abyss that he as fallen into, if in Pure we get a glimpse of what is happening to him, in Deity we finally get the answers and they are not pretty…
Im happy that we get to see Deacon and Luke again in this book, I love those two, and we get to see a different Lea, one that doesn’t make us want to rip her head.
There is a special moment like middle book, that had my heart melting! Even in the circumstances that it was, and WHERE it was.
There is a new character in this book, he doesn’t appear a lot, but he is awesome and will gain more importance through the series.
The world building continues to be amazing in this book, we get nice surprises and shocking ones too, there are some extra sweet moments that will make you swoon over and the end will freak you out! This series brings the best about greek mythology, all the magic and myths and in this book we get really awesome God related news! Fans of Covenant will love Deity

: 5/5
Yes, yes, yes!! I was sooo relieved there was more action in this installment and I also feel like the storyline/plot got way more interesting (we learn so much about the story in this one!). Also, we finally get to see more of the Greek Gods and that was a big bonus for me. They really add to the story and the Greek Mythology vibes. Alex is getting stronger and I love that fact, she’s learning to deal with a lot of stuff (which is totally understandable with all that she’s been through). She’s so strong but vulnerable at the same time, which makes it really easy to connect to her as a character. She’s also making a choice in her love life…. Which I won’t say anything else about, because of spoilers (I probably will in my next review though). Another thing I won’t say more about (because of possible spoilers) is this: there are so many betrayals and we get to see a character again that I really missed! Because of the action, I felt that the pace of this story was much better than the last one and we are going on an adventure. Oh yea, and that ending: absolutely crazy!!! I feel lucky that I am able to dive in the next book immediately. Definitely recommending this series and I really think Greek Mythology lovers will love these series.

Can you say Blown away??
This book is so good that my emotions where all over the place.
I laughed, swooned, cried like there´s no tomorrow.
Jennifer L. Armentrout is the Absolute Queen of YA with the perfect amount of action, sexual tension and Romance. No one writes books like she does, she knows exactly what buttons to push on her readers to achive the most extreme reactions.
Deity is no exeption, we get an action packed flawless plot since the first page and the fact that JLA doesn´t need to fluff it up to make the most out of the story is impresive.
Alex grows exponentially, she learns some truths that change her view of things and is forced to take some pretty dramatic choices that set the tone for the whole book., you know… the tragedy of knowledge and how it changes things. (you´ll see what I mean when you read it =D)
I have to say that I wasn´t Team Aiden, I did like Seth a lot; the whole bad/goofy boy thing he had going on it was alluring in some weird psycho way. but at times on this book I wanted to slap some sense into him.
Ohh Yeah!! my emotions where raw, I wanted to scream and kick some Seth butt.
Aiden was in one word Amazing!!! as always he is the one that brings some sort of balance to Alex and I´m def. happy, with how their relationship progressed… Swoon!!! this guy with his dreamy eyes and his attitude had me drooling over him like 90% of the book. I have to come clean here and say that I was Team Seth but not anymore, cause now I know that there can´t be no one better for Alex than Aiden.
Bottom line is that I laughed, Cried got angry and all angsty over this book, and I can´t wait t read the next one. The hardest thing I ever had to do was close this book and realize that I have a long wait till Apollyon gets here.
Jennifer L. Armenttrout is my fav. Author ever and after that cruel, heart stopping ending all I can say is. BRAVO!!!!! Jen you truly know how to push my buttons. I was left a mess and all I can think of is…
I need Apollyon now!!
Placing us in space time, this begins just a few days away because from the end of Pure, Alex leaves together with Seth from New York to Deity Island, while Lucian, Marcus, Aiden and Leo, have stayed in the Catskills finishing the political affairs.
Alex resumes his activities in the Covenant with all the events that happened to him in New York and with the death of Caled still resenting and, she is not one Alex of many friends, really she still blames herself for his death and how she could have done things differently to save him. Without overcoming her loss, new news is thrown at her,
The marks of the apollyon keep appearing, new pieces like the apollyon keep arriving and this overwhelms and despairs Alex, with the disturbing idea of losing control of his life. But not only that but there is also the constant that someone wants her dead and far from being a threat. But it seems that death is not the worst of evils, but that there are people who move in the shadows and only want to use their power.
Alex remains the strong, bold and brave girl who is not afraid of anything, is passionate about her duty and what she believes is right. But we see that it begins to change, as for some attitudes, it is no longer the same girl breaks rules of the first book, it is not that one to look for quarrels and that always gets away with it. If she leaves her point of view clear, there are fights with Seth and Aiden and more than once her witty and quick tongue comes out, which for me the author does with a certain particularity that makes the character authentic and real. But speaking of deeper things, in the middle of the book even with the fears and insecurities she can handle, we see that her thinking is already for a greater good.
We’ve known Aiden since the first book, I think he was profiled as a favorite after doing what he did at the end of the book pure, but in this book it’s his realization as a main male character. He is the kind of male character who seeks to do the right thing, has good feelings, is devoted to his beliefs and always seeks the common good. I will be told a lot: How boring such a boy is! But he isn’t, if we look at the context first which is a love forbidden by the Hematois laws, that gives him a plus, and even though Aiden tries to do the right thing by walking away from Alex, in this book after almost losing her, he reveals that he has always been in love with her, that he has always been her, even when he told her in the previous book that he didn’t feel anything. They will also tell me: ¨Aiden is too perfect which makes the character irreal¨. I will have to disagree with that, because also in this book there are two scenes where we realize that Aiden is not perfect, we see that he is also someone who has darkness.
The love that Aiden reflects is the kind of love that always puts the other person first, and for me that kind of love is worth much more than any bad guy stereotype. As I told someone on Twitter, Aiden allows Alex to be herself with her outbursts, her quick tongue and even her problems. He cares about what she feels, about her fears and insecurities and is there to help her cope. He always loved her for what she is and not for what she would become. He respects her decisions and supports her even if she does not agree with those decisions and accompanies her in her actions. He is the perfect complement, she is the storm, he is the calm. She is the unruliness and he is her anchor. He completely melts that unconditional love that helps you grow but also sustains you.
With Seth we see that the things are not like that, I do not say to you that the attitude of ¨soy the most chingon of mundo¨ does not please, it does it and even it gives us funny moments, in the previous book believe me that I was pleased, but in this book from the beginning it is as if something is hiding, even there are things that it does not say to Alex, important things. Then it’s a kind of sickly possessive love of the type you’re going to be with me because if, it makes Alex look like an object, what matters is that he becomes an apollyon and nothing else, from there everything else doesn’t matter. There are two key moments that for me kill Seth as a main character (as to who Alex should stay with) and I will only say, I’ll put Seth down for fag! And the other is for how he behaves with her.
We already gutted our characters, let’s go with the plot. This book is a seesaw of everything, because it has everything, it’s a very complete book, I’ll break it down for you this way: From the end of the first chapter, it drops a bombshell that helps to develop and fill in some gaps regarding the origin of the Apollyon. From that moment on it goes upwards in terms of developing the theme of the book, there is drama, and unexpected revelations about the gods. Then part of the drama is mixed with the romance and we have some chapters that are so eager to read, because there is love and revelations. Then there is more drama, conflicts and hallucinatory fighting scenes and how much you think it’s all over and there’s a moment of calm, it’s not. Things just get good.
In conclusion, this is an incredible book, there is an advance in the essence of the characters, we have many revelations that have been appearing since the first book, things that were not understood, come to make sense in this one. Another thing that should be highlighted is the appearance of the different gods, because the different appearances are really hallucinatory and unique.
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have, and that you fall in love with Alex and Aiden as much as I have.
Sooooo about the extra scene….
Elixir is the Short Story that is told from the perspective of the handsome and beloved Aiden, so it is one of the best 80 pages Jennifer could give us.
Seriously, if you’re a member of my team and you love Aiden, in this book you just want to love him more, hug him and tell him ¨babe, everything will be bien¨. And if you’re not Team Aiden, then in this book you fall in love with him.
Placing us on the timeline, the story in Elixir begins a few days after the end of Deity. Alex has woken up and the first thing he has done is connect with Seth.
Alex in this book has completely lost himself in the bond that unites her with the first Apollyon, her actions, desires and emotions are mixed with those of the first. There is no line where her bond begins and ends, she is completely lost, and this has led both Aiden and Marcus to take certain steps to prevent Alex from escaping and joining the first by transferring his power.
If you think Alex is suffering inside herself, because of how she feels. It’s nothing compared to reading Aiden, it breaks your heart. He is finding between his feelings for Alex and his reason for duty, to make the right choices. Aiden loves Alex so much that seeing her lost in the bond and knowing that this was one of Alex’s strongest fears destroys him. And it shatters him even more when he has to make decisions to buy time and find a way to break the bond. If in the previous books we saw an Aiden who didn’t break down who always kept his cool and focused, here we know the human Aiden who is really desperate, but that won’t stop him from doing anything to keep Alex safe.
If there is one thing we see very well in this book, it is that sometimes you have to make difficult decisions and live with them, and although those decisions ‘may be questionable in many ways, in the end we all do things out of love. If there is one thing I love, it is the way Aiden loves, he never gives up on Alex, he is always there, strong and firm, in the moments when Alex needs him, his love is unconditional.
Deity is the third book in the Covenant series and this was just such a great read. I just can’t get enough of this great series. Each of the stories in this series just capture my interest and I just never want them to end. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series.
Finally, Aiden came to his senses, but it only took Alex dying to make him realize that he needed to man up. I can’t wait to get to the next one that is Aiden’s POV.
In the previous book, Aiden does something so profound it could destroy his life if anyone ever learns of it, all to protect Alex. In this one, she’s dealing with the worry of that, the slow suspicion surrounding Seth, despite the fact she wants to believe in him. She keeps onto that hope and as well as trying to understand the difference between need and love, fate and choice. She keeps ignoring her suspicions, holding onto that deep friendship she has with Seth. Plus she has to dodge assassins from a fanatical cult bent on killing her. Oh, and keep her distance from the Pure she loves.
This is a slightly darker read, but the agony and worry really do infect the reader. Although I did want to strangle Alex a few times for purposely ignoring warning signs regarding one of the men in her life, but it is excusable once you understand it, so I’ll let that pass. Luckily for us readers, we really get to see a lot of Alex and Aiden moments, although he’s still a little difficult to read. By the end of the novel – a horrible cliffhanger – you are dying for the next one! I’m wavering between 4 and 5 stars here, so I’ll split the difference. 4.5 stars!
A tantalising read!
History is on repeat, and things didn’t go so well the last time…
THAT ENDING!! NO!!!!!! Thankfully the whole series is out and I have all the books so on to the next one!
Yep. Yes. This book – this book is my favourite because of what finally happens between certain people. A whole bunch of stuff happens that we get answers too but not everything. Cannot wait to see how everything pans out.
The tension was so thick that if you had a sword or dagger, you will not be able to break it at all.
So ridiculously good. Perfection.
Full of danger, forbidden love, twists, surprises, passion, action, gods, goddesses, apollyon, fate, pure bloods and half-bloods.
Perfect for readers of paranormal romances/fantasy romances/Greek mythology.
