Kizzy sees dead people, but she’s a thief and talking to dead folks is about as useful as a three-legged horse. The Dragos clan booted her out when her year’s take was a lousy five hundred and sixty credits. The only way back in is to pull off a million-credit heist. Alone. When Kizzy’s jobs as a roadkill collector and medical test subject goes south, she decides taking Montezuma’s gold away from … gold away from an Indiana Jones wannabe is the ultimate heist.
The snag? The Indiana Jones wannabe is Ethan Jones, a dangerous Coletti Warlord. Now that she’s caught his attention, he’s determined to capture her as his prize.
Can the ghost whisperer defeat the big, bad Warlord?

Another fun adventure!
I think what I like the most about these books, aside from the humor, is the low-stress-ness of the story. Yes, this is a sci-fi romance and yes, there are graphic details and yes, people get eaten, but from the hero and heroine’s standpoint, there’s nothing to worry about.
Unlike other heroines in the series, Kizzy was rather flawed. She couldn’t accomplish the psychic feats she should have been able to, given her heritage, and she knew that about herself and was forthcoming about this flaw as much as she was remorseful about it. In spite of the unrealistic story line, that detail made her more like a realistic person. But, hey, she could talk to the dead, and that was pretty cool!
I also enjoyed the “epic quest” vibe in this book, or having to track down clues to find the big treasure. I also enjoyed being reunited with characters from other books in the series.
Bottom line, if you’re looking for a truly fun series that will make you laugh out loud and wholeheartedly root for the good guys to win, then THIS is your series!
(I received this book in consideration of my honest thoughts)
Ethan Jones finds his mate
Cassiopeia “Kizzy” Dragos is from a family much like the Jones’s. The Dragos are the Jones’s opposite, the excellent in theft. Except for Kizzy. She doesn’t like to steal, isn’t much of a liar, and her only psychic abilities is talking to the dead. Voted out of the family, with no real skills, it has been one dead end job after another. She has her Uncle Aldo, the reason the family has stayed off the Coletti radar and Granny Annabel, a ghost who refuses to cross over until Kizzy has a good man to watch over her.
Kizzy’s powers are changing. She is started to have visions. An amulet, a hot Coletti warrior, and Montezuma’s lost treasure. Finding the treasure will get her back in the family. First she has to get around Ethan Jones.
Fun, funny, fast paced and steamy. Ethan and Kizzy, get some help from Quinn and Xenia, Uncle Saul, and Adan. Love this series. I know I will get a fun laugh out loud story.
She thought she was a clanless loser who needed a big score when the treasure hunt of her life lands her in the sights of a ruthless enemy and a determined Coletti Warlord. A sizzling blend of sci-fi and paranormal romance and a treasure hunt adventure made Defying the Relic Hunter another rousing good time with the series.
Review
Defying the Relic Hunter is book eleven of the Coletti Warlords series. It is a standalone adventure and romance, but the background and recurring characters in the story make it best to get the series in order.
Kizzy is the Dragos who never seemed to live up to the promise of her birth. Her mother was a powerful psychic and died a hero’s death protecting Spain during the first of the Tai-Kok invasions. Instead of inheriting her mother’s great telepathic powers and making her clan more powerful, Kizzy sees ghosts and talks to dead people. Not even her uncle’s support kept her from getting voted out of the clan and left to fend for herself one dead-beat job after another.
That’s when Kizzy decides a big score is needed and she knows just the one, Montezuma’s long-lost treasure. Too bad a fear-some Coletti Warlord, Ethan Jones, is after the treasure, too. Her schemes to outfox Ethan only seem to draw his attention to her psychic abilities and put her and her clan on the Coletti radar. Ethan is now pursuing her like his most prized treasure. Trouble is she has stirred up some powerful evil and other greedy types who want some of the powerful magical artifacts of the treasure so she needs Ethan and his Coletti family if she is to survive to the finish.
And, I thought the series was captivating mayhem when it was just the alien vampiric Coletti racing after the fighting women of the Jones clan to work together to save the universe, but now adding the mafia-like Dragos clan of thieves and their own brand of psychics ramped up the fun exponentially. The setting of the Southwest and the treasure hunting element along with the use of Aztec mythology were great add-ins.
Kizzy was a trip of a heroine and Ethan was a good match as he struggled to catch her at first and then keep her out of trouble. They were a spicy hot pair. Kizzy was made to feel ugly and worthless by an ex and some of her own family, but Ethan changed all that when he brought her into his Jones-Coletti family and friends to show Kizzy that family wasn’t only blood and she never had to go it alone again. But, it wouldn’t be the zany series I love if he also didn’t have to learn not to be domineering and over-protective so that Kizzy had to teach him a lesson or two about smothering strong, independent, intelligent women.
But, gotta say, ghostly Granny Annabel, who popped in and saved the day often and terrorized the bad guys and the good guys in turn, stole the show. I hope she’s a regular character as the series moves into this new season of stories. Fun to see appearances by Quinn Jones and his relic hunter warrior mate Xenia, Adan, Zarek, Uncle Saul, and Raj. Oh and new characters, Uncle Aldo the inventor of cool gadgetry along with some of the slicker members of the clan, too. It will be fun to see who gets their story next.
All in all, these fast-moving, spicy sci-fi romances are sheer entertainment for me. It doesn’t take itself too serious and always leaves me wanting more. I love the humor, action, and amusing characters who take it to the bad guys and fly off into the sunset. Those who want light romance laced with strong action and humor should give this book/series a look-see.
Dead people aren’t always helpful
When I fast paced exciting story full of snarky sarcastic comic relief, this is my go to author. This is the first book that I have read in this series, so I can guarantee that it can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. That being said, I think that there are some back elements that made me go ahead back to the first book, well by the numbers it is the third book, in the series. Regardless, this author made this book such an enjoyable ride with so many elements that I look for in a story, and who doesn’t love a relic hunter. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series and any other that the author sends my way.
Scifi romance with a lot of laughs!
I read Gail Koger’s Coletti Warlord Series when I want a science fiction romance that make me laugh at all of the over the top situations that happen in the books.
Defying the Relic Hunter starts with the Dragos clan that has psychic powers that the Coletti want but they have been smart enough to figure out ways to hide them plus their main talents is stealing things and information.
