Wow, this story takes you on an exciting ride, from fear to wonder and affection between human and alien. There is always something to keep you turning pages and at times, yelling at one character or another to open their eyes or watch their backs. I really want a residence like Trask’s, his household seems to have some very interesting appliances and abilities. Lana is torn between wanting to go home to earth but loving her captor, nothing is as it seems and for Lana, it’s usually a struggle to just survive. Trask is a captor any woman could love, he tries so hard to help Lana accept her destiny, yet he has his duties as the General that he must fulfill at the same time. Not everything is as it seems, there are evil people at every corner of the universe, some seem to have their sights on making Lana miserable. ( just my opinion) I really enjoyed this story, although it’s longer than I expected, it kept me turning the pages and wanting to know what happens next. I look forward to the next book and I think and hope I know who it will be about. YES!
The fourth book in the series and it centers around Lana and Trask. It takes place during the same time as the previous book, but also a year or so after,
Lana and Trask relationship starts out really well, there is an instant chemistry between them. But in any relationship communication is important and when there are secrets, everything falls apart. Trask is at a lost why his mate would want to leave him. Both of them are miserable apart.
When they meet again over a year later, an old conspiracy reappears and everything explodes. Will there love be strong enough?
It is a story filled with emotions, misunderstanding, funny, sexy and tender moments. It is a big book, but it held my attention from beginning to end. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
I’m hoping this isn’t the last we see of Primaria, Terra Nova and their inhabitants.
If you’re looking for a well written, captivating sci-fi romance that has a fast paced and layered plot then look no further. Whilst each Primarian Mates book can be read stand alone, they are all amazing reads and you will get the best from them by reading them in order.
I’m not sure if Lana and Trask have replaced Eryn and Ram as my favourite book couple – it’s definitely a close run thing. This story will take you across the whole gamut of emotions, from love to sorrow to pain to happiness, high to low and back again. It is also so much more than just the romance aspect too. Each book has a complex story involving both the main couple, other characters and the worlds around them, plus stands that weave into the back story that runs throughout all four books.
These are long books – well over 5 hours of reading time, and I loved every single minute of them. The characters are engaging, likeable and easy to connect with, the writing draws you into the book in a way that makes you never want to leave. Whilst I was desperate to complete the book and find out what happens with Lana, Trask and the others, I also wanted it to take forever because I so loved being immersed in this amazing world Maddie Taylor has created.
I can’t recommend this fantastic series enough, though I’m hoping the fact that I’ve read all 4 books back-to-back tells you everything you need to know.
OMG. I literally stayed up to 4 am in the morning to finish this book because I couldn’t put it down. I cried during parts of it, and smiled happily during others. Sometimes even both. I loved the story even when it broke my heart.
Lana was one of the Original Eight human women captured by the Primarian men. She was caught by General Trask, and then became his mate. It seemed like everything was going really well. They were happy, they were falling madly in love, but then, things started conspiring against them. Lana overheard someone telling Trask that he should get another mate, she started being very ill, and all sorts of other pressures seemed to be sabotaging their relationship. So, she did what she thought was best. She left.
That, right there, that was devastating to me. They seemed to be so happy and then boom. That was the first time I cried. They seemed like the perfect couple to me, so that happening was just so terrible. But, then things would happen that would almost make me happy and then things that were terrible and even made me mad. My emotions were honestly all over the place, and it wasn’t because I was up all night reading this. Maddie Taylor really sent me on a roller coaster with this one. I thought her last Primarian book was intense, but it was nothing compared to this. I hope that Maddie doesn’t keep us waiting forever for the next parts of the story, because there are so many other women and so many other men that we can see. I think I know who the next one is going to be, so I’m looking forward to seeing if I’m right.
So doing my usual trick of reading things backwards I started ” Defying The General”.
And all-though I would probably suggest a smoother experience reading this from the start of the series.
This can be read in my opinion as a stand-alone as all the components are there and it does explain things fully.
So this runs parallel with previous instalments and right from the get-go I was hooked.
And apart from the prologue that initially confused me (until events were eventually clarified).
I found this super easy to follow and get lost in.
This had such likeable characters, great imagination and fantastic world building.
Anyone that knows me knows I’m a goner for anything alien and though these ET’s were very human looking I forgave that on account of there barbarian chest beating masculinity.
You’d be like a kid in a sweet shop here with all this male yumminess and testosterone even with all the spanking and dominance shit.
I so wouldn’t mind complying for the luscious General Trask, just saying.
Trask was lovely a bit archaic in his views on the opposite sex but I forgave him as this was the Primarian way.
Lana was also a sweetie, a trifle simple in her belief system and easily manipulated but she was also harmless and most importantly she was kind.
She made stupid decisions, but at heart, her reasonings were sound and were done for what she perceived as good so that made it more understandable.
Lana would definitely be the sort of girl that would do the obviously stupid crap in a horror movie that would so get her killed.
You know, the one you’d be screaming at your TV screen too.
NO DON’T DO IT!!!
I really did enjoy “Defying The General” so much more than I was initially expecting.
I was transfixed throughout.
I ummed and Awed over my rating with this, whether to give this a four or a five star.
I eventually went with a five as though I had some slight niggles this kept my attention from start to finish and was one I couldn’t put down.
“Defying The General” was told In dual POV and was a fabulous addition to its genre.
If you like your sci-fi romance give this series a go, it is an action-packed sexy ride with a surprisingly deep romance (despite the initial insta-love) at its centre.
I absolutely adored “Defying The General”.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of “Defying The General” of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Primarian Mates, Book 4. When two dying worlds collide, an inferno explodes, creating chaos, discord, and the promise of salvation!
When Lana Hartman signed on for a three-year space mission on the Odyssey, her only thought was how to save a dying Earth. Being captured and caged by a bunch of loincloth-wearing savages was nowhere on the agenda. Meeting Trask, the Supreme General of the Primarians, is a double-edged sword. He may be a barbarian, can’t understand a single word she says, but there’s a red-hot attraction between them that can’t be denied. As she soon learns, the Primarians are anything but savages. Their technology far outstrips that of Earth. And they’re looking for mates. That humans turn out to be physical matches on a biocellular level is a miracle…for the Primarians. Primarian females were rendered infertile over 20 years ago, and their race is facing extinction. But are the captured eight females enough to repopulate all of Primaria? The Primarians may be technologically light years ahead of Earth, but their basic nature harkens back to the Victorian era. Dominant, patriarchal, and controlling in the extreme, Lana and the others rebel from the start. But is any human female a match for the alien males? Hardly likely when the Primarians outweigh and outmatch every one of them. When the Odyssey itself is captured, bringing another 300 females to Primaria, Lana despairs. But she slowly comes to accept that life on Primaria is her only future. She also soon realizes Trask means much more to her than just the best sex of her life. Then, out of the blue, she’s hit with the most devastating news possible. She loves Trask, and, for his sake, she has to leave. When the Odyssey leaves for Earth, she escapes. Can this truly be the end for Trask and Lana? Unknown to the Primarians and humans alike, there are plots, agendas, and machinations set to destroy everyone and everything. But who would want this? And why is Lana is the focus? When disaster after disaster strikes, Lana’s in the wrong places at every turn. With her life at stake, and the burgeoning pact between Earth and Primaria at risk, can anything save her? As she races against time to find the culprit, she has just one chance. But can she take it? To do so would mean utter destruction, and not just for her. Only one thing is clear. If she can’t find the answers, Primaria, Earth, and every hope for the future is gone!
This story blew me away. It’s not a short book, but it’s very well worth the time to read. Maddie Taylor has outdone herself with this installment of the Primarian Mates. Lana’s a paradox. Independence was forced on her by her life on Earth. She’s a scientist of the highest caliber and self-reliant in every sense of the word. That she finds herself a Primarian captive, mated to an arrogant, overbearing, dominant Primarian male is something she should hate. Yet, she’s fascinated, inexplicably drawn to Trask. She fights him tooth-and-nail from day one yet she can’t help but love him. She’s desolate, heartbroken, when she learns the truth. Yet she still can’t let go. Trask is absolutely captivating. Yes, he’s all the things Lana should hate. His domineering personality, intolerance of any defiance, and readiness to punish Lana for the least infraction should make you hate him. But he’s so much more than just a primitive, old-fashioned brute with a one-track mind. His passion knows no bounds, and not just in the bedroom. He’s devoted to his family, his people, and his planet. His dedication to Lana, his family, his Princep, his world, are astounding. I was riveted from the moment I started reading. In my opinion, Defying the General is the best book yet in this series. Ms. Taylor has outdone herself. This book deserves nothing less than five stars! Thank you, Ms. Taylor, for writing such a compelling story. This book will stay with me for some time to come!
A final note. This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don’t enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and Amazon. Use these resources. DON’T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON’T ENJOY THE BOOK. It’s not fair to the author. She works hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you’ll object to a book’s subject matter before you buy it, you’re doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
This is a great addition to the Primarian Mate series. General Trask captures Lana and she becomes his mate. They were both happy and in love when one thing after another conspires against them and Lana decides to leave. This story takes you on an emotional trip and I was just glad to be along for the ride. I would definitely recommend this book.
This was my first book by Maddie Taylor, though this is the fourth in this Primarian Mates series, it can be read as a standalone like I did, but I did find it jumped around a little bit with referencing to other books in the series, which didn’t but me off, I will definitely go back and read those after reading this!
Lana is a human who gets captured by one of the Primarian aliens, who turns out to be General Trask. They are fated to be mates and after her initial resistance and reluctance, the chemistry and attraction between them proves too great to resist. Everything seems to be going well until she learns something about herself and decides the best thing for her to do is leave General Trask and let him find another more suitable mate.
There are a lot of plot twists in this story and lots going on, some of which refer back to other books in this series. I love the connection between Trask and Lana, their chemistry is hot, and when Lana misbehaves Trask is always there on hand being his Alpha dominant self to dish out a bit or correctional behavior spanking!!
There are lots of interesting side characters in here, some of which are probably in the other books, which I can’t wait to read more of. This was an engaging story line that had me captivated from the start, emotional at times, with elements of angst, drama, suspense and mystery as well as some very hot sexy scenes.
A great choice read for any erotic alien sci fi readers.
