Reading Defying Gravity I couldn’t have been more in love with Amelia and Tobias. Those two main characters stole my heart immediately. For me this is the best book I’ve read by KK Allen. Gawd I fell totally in love with Amelia and Tobias! The sexual tension between these two was just over the top. Their story is sweet, sexy, raw, heart-breaking and passionate. Oh and all the emotions in this book!! I couldn’t have been more in love with this book! The story of Amelia and Tobias is just so heartbreakingly beautiful, I couldn’t prevent to cry while reading. Defying Gravity is definitely one of those books I won’t forget that easily and it’s one of the best books I’ve read in a long, loooong time! KK Allen has definitely outdone herself with this book.
“With each crashing wave hitting and rolling over the shore came change. We didn’t know what came next, but I feared the biggest wave would hit soon. And our imprint, no matter how deep, could never withstand the tide to come.”
Personally I’m a big fan of second chance romances, and with Defying Gravity KK Allen didn’t disappoint. Her writing style is unique; it’s hot, emotional and heart-breaking. And Defying Gravity is all that. It’s truly a masterpiece. I haven’t read something that made me feel so much in the last months and Defying Gravity has made me fall in love with reading all over again.
This slow burn, second chance romance is definitely a must read and definitely one of the most passionate and romantic stories I’ve read in the last few years.
Amelia is a strong character, who when live knocks her down, she comes out stronger and more determined. Tobias is the brother of Amelia’s best friend, and situations and circumstances sent them in different directions, and now he is back and determined to convince her to give them a 2nd chance despite the obstacles in their path. This is a beautifully written story which is filled with drama, lies, secrets, betrayal, deceit, jealousy, and is a humorous and emotional roller coaster journey throughout. I was hooked and intrigued throughout this addictive page turner, and look forward to reading more from this talented author, and recommend for all.

I feel like I have been waiting my whole life for this book. Honestly, that’s how long it felt. The waiting sucks when you really want something. And trust me I wanted this book so so bad ever since I finished Center of Gravity. All this to say THE WAIT WAS SO FREAKING WORTH IT!!!! I adored this couple with my whole heart. Possibly even more than Lex and Theo. Okay, yes way more than Lex and Theo!!
Amelia and Tobia’s love was all kinds of forbidden, then and now and my heart hurt for these two souls who wanted to be together so bad but life’s circunstances kept tearing them apart. Toby found out a big secret when he was 18 and he went down a dark spiral and ruined his promising future. Months later, Amelia was his safe haven and his cheerleader and gave him the strength to get his life back on track and fight for his dream once again. But that dream and her own were what lead them apart.
Even at such a long distance and busy living their dreams, they couldn’t cut ties. Not until Amelia goes through her own dark spiral and loses herself on the way to achieving her dream. I loved Amelia and what she went through really touched me deep in the soul but she was so strong and she knew what was right and wrong. Even feeling lost, deep down she knew who she was and what she was willing and not willing to do to reach her life long dream.
3 years later, Tobias finally makes his ultimate goal happen. He’s in California, playing for the Lions. He found his way to LA, back to her. And even though there are still so many obstacles in their way and their relationship is forbidden in the public eye, he’s not going to let Amelia walk away from him again. Except, them being together might put their careers in jepardy. And one of them might lose their dream…again.
In a whirlwind of angst, emotional blow after emotional blow and a love so powerful that it fights gravity, K. K. Allen brings us yet again a wonderful, inspiring and breathtaking love story for the ages. This world of dance and basketball will immerse you from the start.
The dramas that come with jealous jerks of teammates, the thrill and fear of dating in secret, the passion for the sport and dancing, the true friendship between Amelia, Lex and Shane, the emotion and rawness of finally learning who you are and where you came from. This book has it all and it was beautifully drawn and put together in the best way. Your jaw will drop with some of the revelations, your eyes will shed tears when characters reunite and when the truth comes out and your heart will ache for all Amelia and Tobias are put through right from the start. It’s an emotional, angst filled journey that you don’t want to miss out on. Tobias and Amelia find their way back to each other and it’s honestly one of the most beautiful stories I’ve read. By the end my heart was bursting with happiness and love for this beautiful, amazing couple that I just loved with all my heart. It was hard to say goodbye to them because I wanted to keep on reading and reading all about these two!
This series is a breath of fresh air for me and I couldn’t love it more. I love the dancing world and how it all just plays in my head and I love that the reading is interactive and you can watch the videos and imagine Amelia dancing those moves and being a bad*** talented dancer.
You can learn how Amelia and Toby’s story started in Falling from Gravity, a prequel novella first included in the Spring Fling anthology. You don’t need to read it to read this book but you should because it’s amazing and trust me, by the end of this book you’ll want all the more of Amelia and Tobias you can get.
Ameila and Tobias’ story literally blew me away. They both have been put through so many obstacles at such a young age. Ameila and Tobias goes through such a hard heartbreak. The older they get, the more they are willing to do whatever it takes to make it work for them. Their story isn’t perfect, but it’s perfect for them.
“Actions were always louder than words, and our kiss spoke our truth when no words could suffice.”
Siiiiigh.
That’s how I feel after reading this beautiful and amazing story of Amelia and Tobias. K.K. Allen continues to wow me with her genuine stories and Defying Gravity is no exception.
I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED the message this book portrays, especially to young girls and women. No matter your age, we as women struggle with accepting ourselves because we take in what others say and put more importance on it than our own opinion. K.K. Allen delivers a SMART, FEARLESS heroine in Amelia. Amelia might get knocked down but she doesn’t give up and in the end she is stronger for it. Stronger for trusting herself; for putting faith in herself.
Tobias is a DREAM. He’s broken by a lie within his family but what I love the most is that he never stops loving Amelia through all his pain. He finds his way to her. (And seriously, I love the name Tobias).
One of my favorite quotes in this book (and there was a lot highlighted) is this one:
“At the end of the day, there’s only one thing that matters. Not someone else’s opinion of you or what social media portrays. All of that is bull crap. Your heart is the only mirror you should trust.”
I love this (standalone) series. K.K. Allen is a phenomenal storyteller and she’s not an author you want to miss.
Falling in love with your sister’s best friend comes with a lot of obstacles. Add in the truth that you are adopted and that the NBA has no place for you and the obstacles get even bigger. But through it all Tobias and Amelia find out that love can stand the test of time. Both might have been separated due to circumstances but their connection lasts across time. With beautifully written characters that are real and lovable and a storyline that captivated the reader from the opening pages this friends to lovers to soulmates book is one I would highly recommend.
She dreams of being an NBA dancer, knowing what his dreams are.
He dreams of being a professional NBA basketball player.
They share dreams of togetherness, but secrets and lies arent easy to carry on your shoulders twenty four seven.
What will break first….
What an epic emotional love story! Time has no meaning with matters of the heart and this is much the case for this amazing read!
I teared up loads reading this, my heart was constantly either full of joy or breaking. So much drama, so many secrets.
Amelia’s heart is in the world of dance. It’s where she belongs. Shes an amazing character. Her heart full of love and hope.
Tobias stole my heart from the moment he downed tools to become the knight in shining armour.
Together they are dazzling. They shine so bright and their love is endless.
This is one of those reads that you could read a hundred times and still want to read it again.
Grab some comfort food, and some tissues, for you will need both! K.K Allen is going to take you on the ride of your life!
“Ours was a forbidden love that danced among lightning in equal measures of excitement and fear. That was Tobias and me—two connected souls that had once defied the laws of gravity.”
Defying Gravity brings us Amelia and Tobia’s story, a couple who have to fight against the odds to finally be together.
They are a beautiful couple and at the end we get their well deserved happily ever after. Amazing story, amazing characters! But no surprise here, K.K. is amazing!
“We were just Amelia and Tobias. Moon and Earth, living among the stars and sun. We were everything. And no matter the hardships we’d face along the way, we would always make sense together.”
Holy heck…. I’m so lost right now.
That book – it was brilliant, beautiful and so full of goodness I just wanna burst.
Tobias and Amelia are freaking amazing, much like K.K. Allen’s words:
“We’re just Amelia and Tobias. We’re moon and earth, living among the stars and sun. We’re everything. And no matter the distance, we still make sense together.”
So much angst, disappointment, love, lust, heartache and happiness.
I’m completely overwhelmed in the best possible way.
OMG! OMG! This book gave me all the feels and goosies all over. K.K. never fails to bring a story to its full fruition without waving through the pages gracefully and with pure elegance. This story was no different! She told us a story of the journey of love and the pathway or galaxy that led them there. It was by far my most favorite K.K. Allen read.
Tobias is my hero! He struggled with his placement in a world when he felt detached from everyone including his own family. Its not till one defining moment that allowed him to see the one person who had always seen him. With a different pair of eyes, Tobias was finally looking into the eyes of something he never thought he would find. His future…
Amelia had one goal. One goal to accomplish her dreams. No college. Just dance. And finally becoming a lioness. One of the NBA’s top dance team. Her dream started long ago. Dancing was her life. Until Tobias James. Her dream became his dream. To make it to the NBA. Just in different fashions. Although, once you’ve made it. How far is your dream really worth it if it takes your soul and the reason you had the dream to begin with?
10 STARS if possible!!!
I couldn’t wait for this book to be done. When I read Falling from Gravity in the Spring Fling anthology, I knew K.K Allen was going to crush my heart, but I also knew that she would mend it back together and she did with such a beautiful story packed full of emotions.
Defying Gravity is a book that you will feel all the way to the very marrow of your bones. At times, while reading this book your heart will beat so hard, your eyes will well with tears and your breath will be stolen from you. K.K Allens words will wrap around your heart and your mind.
Some would say this is a forbidden second chance romance but for me this was a romance packed full of so much love that you can’t help but smile once you close the very last page.
Amelia and Tobias take us on a journey of finding each other again and even though they have to keep things secret, their love for each other never fades. It never ends because they were meant to be.
Some of these lines made melt! Their love was get through the words of this story.
“He kissed me with saltwater lips, drinking me in like a starved man lost at sea.”
“She became my moon, guiding me through the darkness, illuminating hope when I’d thought all was lost…”
If you loved Center of Gravity, then you will absolutely LOVE Defying Gravity. I can honestly say that this story has surpassed COG and become my favorite book of 2019!
Highly recommended.
*I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author/publisher in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.”
Amelia and Tobias were never supposed to happen, she was his little sister’s best friend. When Tobias’ dream of making it in the NBA came knocking, everything changed. Fast forward three years and Tobias is in LA along with Amelia. Tobias has never given up hope that he and Amelia can make it work, and when he asks her for a second chance, she’s torn. With both of their jobs they shouldn’t, but the heart wants what the heart wants. As the two try and navigate their lives and careers it all comes down to this, are they willing to risk it all for love?
I loved this story, from the minute I read the blurb, I knew this was one I needed to get my hands on. Sports Romance is one of my favorite genres, and this book was the perfect culmination of both. The banter between the characters, the romance, just everything about ‘Defying Gravity’ was amazing, and the way that K.K. Allen writes, you feel what the characters are feeling. She paints a vivid picture with her words, and you feel like you are as much a part of this book as the actual characters. I was rooting for Amelia and Tobias from reading ‘Falling From Gravity’ and ‘Defying Gravity’ picked up where we left off. This book was beautifully written, and I do hope we get to see more of these characters in future books!
Sometimes you read a book that you know is just going to stick with you for years. I’ve only read a handful of those, but this is definitely one of those books for me. Tobias and Amelia were everything! They were just so perfect for each other, and K. K. Allen had this amazing way of bringing them to life, by writing this amazing story and making it so believable and realistic. It just makes me want to gobble up all of her books that I haven’t read yet as fast as possible! I loved everything about it, and I highly recommend it with more than five stars!
I really digged this book. Amelia and Tobias were great characters that I adored and their romance was one of it never being the right with so much at stake if they were to be together. Tobias is a basketball player trying to establish his talent and worth with a team and Amelia is dancer with big dreams of playing for the LA Lions. The timing is never right for these two as they are in different states with each of their dreams at risk or rising, then when their dream has them playing in the same state the rules of the league prevent them from having an open relationship.
The thing I loved the most about this relationship is that Tobias and Amelia communicated and opened up to each other so well. They sacrificed their relationship for the others dreams and it was beautiful and heartbreaking. No matter the decisions either made, the love they clearly shared for each other was real and deep.
Defying Gravity was a solid romance from K.K. Allen. It was so well done with for the most part, none of the bs drama or the main characters making dumb decisions that created unnecessary conflict. Minus Trinity, Tobias’s sister, being a terrible best friend and needy ass person with misdirected jealousy.
Defying Gravity continues to follow the two throughout their careers. This forbidden / sports / second chance romance was so cute and my favorite in the series. Amelia’s character is so strong. She faced a lot of discouraging struggles, but she made her way through. She overcame so much and was able to have a second chance at her dream. Tobias is so sweet and determined for a second chance with Amelia, and he does everything he can to get that chance. Their relationship is so cute. Even though timing and distance was not on their side, they have an undeniable connection. This story had a lot of relatable feelings and situations, so it made it really easy to connect with the characters and love them even more.
Where do I even begin with this book?! Sister’s best friend, sports romance, forbidden love, oh and some HOT dancing…just so much goodness all wrapped into one!
I lost count of the number of times I felt the need to throw my kindle across the room only to be drawn back in and before I knew it I was releasing happy sighs. My emotions were all over the place in the best possible way. The story of Amelia and Tobias has become one of my new favorites. Following their story of secret love and heartbreak. Of perusing dreams and then discovering those dreams just might not be what’s actually best for them. Finally, the realization that perhaps everyone deserves a second chance at life and love. Absolute perfection!
I loved Tobias and Amelia!! What started as a Spring Fling blossomed into more than these two could imagine. They survived everything that barreled through their attempted relationship and overcame it all! They Defied Gravity. Such a sweet second chance romance and I loved every single word.
Another superb book in this series. A quick read that I couldn’t put down! Loved it! Tobias is such a sweetheart!!
Now I need to read Falling from Gravity to see how the relationship between Tobias and Amelia started. So I would recommend to read Falling from Gravity first but its not essential. I’d say the beginning of the story would just make more sense.
I didn’t want to put this book down, I was so engrossed in Toby and Amelia’s story. They were drawn to one another, it was obvious they belonged in each other’s arms. Toby and Amelia were forbidden, they kept it hidden from friends and family. She helped him get back on court and made him face his fears and
Realise he still had skills and his career didn’t have to be over. Who could of predicted it would be sooner than later and would puta huge distance between them. Toby was surrounded by people who believed and pushed him into his goal.
Amelia was focused, driven to become a cheer dancer it had been her dream for as long as she could remember. The grass is always greener on the other side though. Dancing silenced her thoughts of Toby. Their busy schedules made keeping in contact a nightmare. The calls slowly dwindled away until they become almost non existent. When the time finally came to be reunited they had to remain a secret to protect their careers.
Wow!! What a read! Once again, KK wrote an amazing story that danced right into my heart! Defying Gravity picked up where Falling From Gravity left off. I could not put this book down; I was committed from the start. KK had me completely immersed all the way to the end!
After several years, Amelia was finally in a good place. She had worked through most of her demons and had come out a stronger woman. But what would happen when her past started to collide with the present? Would the dream of her past once again become the dream of her future?
Tobias had a promise to keep and was not going to stop until it was fulfilled. But that promise could destroy dreams; would he be able to live with the consequences?
The way this book was woven together in time made everything feel so real. You could feel their love flying off the pages. The angst of their secrets and choices will have your heart falling. But don’t worry, your heart will be whole by the end
