From the New York Times bestselling author of Star Wars: Lost Stars and Bloodline comes a thrilling sci-fi adventure that Kass Morgan, bestselling author of The 100 series, calls “startlingly original and achingly romantic…nothing short of masterful.”She’s a soldier — Noemi Vidal is willing to risk anything to protect her planet, Genesis, including her own life. To their enemies on Earth, … life. To their enemies on Earth, she’s a rebel.
He’s a machine — Abandoned in space for years, utterly alone, Abel’s advanced programming has begun to evolve. He wants only to protect his creator, and to be free. To the people of Genesis, he’s an abomination.
Noemi and Abel are enemies in an interstellar war, forced by chance to work together as they embark on a daring journey through the stars. Their efforts would end the fighting for good, but they’re not without sacrifice. The stakes are even higher than either of them first realized, and the more time they spend together, the more they’re forced to question everything they’d been taught was true.
An epic and romantic adventure, perfect for fans of The Lunar Chronicles and Illuminae.

This book stuck with me long after I closed the cover. The character arcs are incredible, and who wouldn’t love a story about an android and a human falling in love?
This is beautiful story-telling and I absolutely cannot wait to continue the series.
A year ago I read this book and missed so much. I re-read it again this month and immediately connected with Noemi and Abel. I was invested in the story and action and couldn’t put the book down. There is a great connection between the main characters which made me feel their emotions along with them. There are adventures in space and some space vocabulary but understandable. Now that I have a better grasp of the story and connection with the characters I will be reading further in the series.
Oh my goodness!!! This book defied all expectations (though I didn’t have any). It took me on a wonderful and amazing ride through space with two amazing characters. I can’t wait for the next book!
THIS BOOK! I so loved this book from beginning to end. I had purchased this one on a Bookbub forever ago, and then out of the blue, my friend Diana suggested I get the audiobook because the male narrator was so perfect for the android protagonist, Abel. She was right! Nate Begle did the best android voice. It was so spot-on. And I loved the the female narrator on this too, yet I can’t find her name anywhere. 🙁 What a disappointment! It’s not mentioned on the Audible nor Amazon listing.
Anyway, the world-building on this was unique, a system of a few planets all connected by wormholes in a loop. There were lots of great internal struggles between personal and societal issues. I connected well with both Noemi and Abel, and I was totally in love with Abel by the end (and yes, he’s an android, so that’s a little weird but also wow.) I can’t recommend this one enough!
Ever since I was a teen and watched copious reruns of Star Trek: TNG, I’ve loved android and AI stories, especially the type who yearned to be human. This tale has two main characters and, while I was instantly enamored with the AI character, the human is just as intriguing.
There’s nothing new here, but a YA, sci-fi adventure to save the universe (a.k.a. space opera) told well is always worth the time, in my opinion. I especially appreciated the inner conflicts of both characters and their existential crisis of sorts. Different, yet essentially the same. What do I live for? What would I die for?
The whole series is a sweet ride and the ending doesn’t disappoint.
I couldn’t put this down! The characters were great and the story superb, both aspects making it a spectacular story.
I love, love this book. I’m not a huge Syfy person but this was great.
I LOVED THIS.
Others have said it was confusing, I disagree. It’s couldn’t have been more perfect.
Except maybe the weird part where they had to break the terrorist out of jail. Like, cool so she is a part of their club now?? And how did she owe that to the doctor? Because he came with her to earth? Like I understood where she went with that but that doesn’t mean I agree with the honor code in that case there.
I LOVED the way Abel navigated through his emotions. So so beautiful.
At first, I didn’t see how this romance angle was going to be believable but I was proved very wrong. A fan am I.
