Alexander “Rush” Markov has been given an ultimatum by his team—shape up or ship out.Alex is celebrating his biggest season in professional hockey, and he’s enjoying every minute of it—perhaps a little too much. He’s been nonstop partying like a rock star since his team won it all, and management isn’t pleased. Next thing Alex knows, he’s been exiled to a remote island with orders to lie low, … lie low, stay out of trouble, and avoid one-night stands.
Rosalind Newcomb is the quintessential good girl, and she’s fine with her role. Sure, she gets lonely and wishes for a special someone, but the choices on Madrona Island are slim to none. When a panty-melting mystery man disrupts the peace and quiet in her bookstore, it’s dislike at first sight. The infuriating man turns her ordered life upside down and inside out and has her thinking about hot summer nights and tangled sheets. Only Alex isn’t who she thinks he is, and love isn’t all hearts and roses.
As Alex battles who he pretends to be and who he really is, he also resists falling in love for the first time in his life. His intense feelings have him ready to bolt, and only he can decide if love is worth fighting for.

Fall in love with Rush!
And that is exactly what you do in Deflected, the new Sockeye’s book by Jami Davenport. Not only do you fall in love with the character we have all been introduced to in previous books, but you travel down the road with him as he discovers love with Roz. When Rush gets benched to Madrona Island for partying a little too hard, he finds Roz, an Island bookstore owner who has some secrets of her own. Over time these two seemingly opposite people come to find they have more in common than they first would have thought. Through different conflicts these two manage to work thru emotional barriers to find their own happiness with each other in the way only Ms. Davenport can provide. I also hope that we received a glimpse of a future book couple in this story as well…….If you like stories that bring characters outside of their comfort zones to find the one they were meant to be with, this is a story for you!
5 star Review Deflected by Jami Davenport
Alexander “Rush” Markov plays professional hockey, hard, fast and parties even harder. Alex is also a closet reader and he often escapes into the world of book. After over celebrating his teams Stanley Cup win, he knows he needs to ease off his partying ways.
When management decides he needs an intervention, Alex is packed off to Madrona Island with instructions to keep a low profile and to get his life and his future back on track.
Rosalind Newcomb owns a book shop and she is annoyed when Alex begins to turn her life upside down.
Alex really is the quintessential bad boy, hot, alpha and so sexy that women find him hard to resist until he meets Rosalind. She wants nothing to do with him at first but as she gets to know the real Alex, walls begin to tumble and the chemistry builds although she has no idea who he really is.
From the start of Deflected I wanted these two to get together and remain that way. However lies told, even by omission can pollute and destroy a relationship before it can become established.
What will happen when Rosalind finds out the truth? Will Alex take a chance on love or will he run before he can get to involved?
Alexander “Rush” Markov is the bad boy of all bad boys, on the ice and off, which has earned him a reputation… one that his boss would like him to shed in the off season. He has issued Rush an ultimatum, clean up his act or he will be playing for another team. This ultimatum comes with a trip to an deserted island, and strict instructions to keep his nose clean… and hands off of random women!
It all sounds easy enough, but then he crosses paths with good girl Rosalind Newcomb… and suddenly keep his hands off becomes a lot harder than he ever anticipated!
Deflected is a uber steamy sports romance that will have you smitten from the very first page, nothing is more captivating than a sexy, smooth talking athlete determined to win the heart of a woman! Rush’s sexy one liners, caring demeanor, and charming personality totally won me over and had me swooning over him from start to finish!! These two set the pages on fire with their scorching chemistry and passionate banter, my fingertips felt the heat with every swipe. As much as these two tried to resist temptation, and their attraction to one another, the harder it became, the anticipation darn near killed me. Highly recommend you get your hands on this one, it had it everything you could want in a story; an addictive story line, dynamic characters with explosive chemistry, and heart squeezing emotion.
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
I love Alex and Rosalind’s story! If there is one thing I love to see, it’s when a bad boy player meets someone he actually wants to change for. When Alex Markov is sent to Madrona Island by the coach to clean up his act because he has been non-stop binge partying since they won the Cup and that simply wasn’t going to fly anymore; he meets Rosalind, and she does not like him at all. This is something new for Alex since he is used to women fawning all over him. She is nothing at all like any other woman he has ever met. Obviously she decides to give him a chance or we would have no story to read. But it is watching the transition in their relationship and their personal growth that is so wonderful and so well written by Jami. Seeing Alex basically taken out of his comfort zone and brought to his knees by Rosalind, who is nothing like the hook-ups he is used to, is just so awesome. She is able to see past his playboy/party boy past and give him a chance to be who he really is deep down when he is with her. Things were not totally smooth sailing, but then that would be boring. Alex is actually quite sweet to go along with all that sexy, and a lot deeper than he portrays himself but he has always hidden that part from the public and even his teammates. Rosalind brings out all the best in him and honestly he does the same for her since she has been hiding a very important part of herself too. I love how all of that plays out for her.
I love what they do for each other and how they make the other blossom. Another great story in this series!
I enjoy this author’s books. Easy, fun read
Alex needs to tone down his player status and drinking. He is sent to Madrona Island to get out of the spotlight. Instead of being bored, the island helps him settle into the person he is under the facade. His interactions with Rosalind at the book store are adorable and her feisty responses help draw him out of his shadows. I loved the final scene in the book store!
Good story and characters
Really liked it:)

Deflected was a Game On In Seattle, Seattle Sockeyes series book by Jami Davenport.
Alex “Rush” Markov was a star on the Seattle Sockeyes NHL team. He had been with them since the beginning of the franchise but hadn’t grown up much. He played hard, partied hard and was with different women every night. He had no plans of slowing down until the team mandated his off season at a remote island near Seattle to relax and settle down quietly.
Rosalind Newcomb was the local island bookstore owner. She was born and raised on the island and never wanted to be anywhere different. She was very set in her ways, manipulated structure, and despised disorder.
Davenport took us through the clash between Alex and Rosalind while revealing a few secrets here and there. It was a lighthearted read.
I enjoyed the plot, but I wasn’t a huge fan of Alex or Rosalind. I couldn’t quite grasp their connection. Not bad writing, just not my favorite characters of the series.
I did love the island. It took me back to the Tyler days with Homer and the Veterans club (Snap Decision, Seattle Steelheads Originals #2). I loved it then and loved it now.
I’m curious where Davenport will take this next. Alex’s teammate Cave may be next, however, he may be traded too so one never knows! Either way, looking forward to see what Davenport brings us!
Alex and Rosalind were the complete opposite on paper but yet had a lot in common. This wasn’t an insta love story; no where close to it!!! Rosalind couldn’t stand Alex and he found her attractive but rude, lol. But yet he continued pursuing her because she didn’t know he was a famous hockey player. And when she found out she disliked him even more, . But when things finally got romantic between these two you saw a side to both that is enjoyable and also how great of a team they are. They made a great team in everything and were each other’s support system. A slight hiccup but nothing too major which actually in the end worked out in their favor.
Alex and Rosalind dislike each other. They are two people hiding their true selves from everyone in their lives. He doesn’t think he has any problems that require correcting until he takes a good hard look at his life during his forced time away. She fears rejection and hides her talent away from everyone. I really loved their story and how they open up to each other. I could not put this book down.
I enjoyed this emotionally intense romance. The attraction and chemistry between Rosalind and Alex was powerful and sizzling. There is plenty of push/pull and sparks as these two fight their attraction and their growing feelings. Lots of tension, emotional turmoil and drama hold t hold your interest. I thought it was very entertaining to watch these two opposites discover exactly how much they did have in common and to witness them both get jarred from their comfort zone.
Jami Davenport just creates characters you really like. She is so great at making you like her people
Alexander “Rush” Markov is a pro-hockey player for Seattle Sockeyes. He plays hard and parties harder. However, after winning Stanley Cup, he gets to a new high on his party boy persona. When his parting starts to get out of control, team management decides he needs an intervention. Now he has a choice he either packs his bags and takes a vacation in Madrona Islands or get ready for being traded.
There is not much to do in Madrona Islands and since he needs to lay low, he decides the best way to spend his time is to indulge his little secret. Annnnddd our sexy, alpha, bad boy hockey player’s little secret is… he is a closet bookworm 🙂 Lucky for him this small town has a bookstore. Rosalind Newcomb owns a bookstore. She is sassy, beautiful, smart and a true planner. She is also a part-time writer. Even though, all she wants to be doing is being a fulltime writer, she doesn’t want to let go of the bookstore. When Rush visits the bookstore, Rosalind caught his attention right away. Much to Rush’s surprise sassy bookstore owner doesn’t want to do anything to do with him; she even kicks him out 🙂 Of course Rush sees this as a challenge. Rosalind won’t even know what will hit her before her life turns upside down. Their chemistry is sizzling hot but it was fun to watch them fight. I really enjoyed the banter between Rosalind and Rush. It was amazing to see with the time they spent together, how Rosalind starts peeling Rush’s layers and start falling in love with the real person behind all the layers. Also, I loved Rosalind’s meddling parents 🙂
‘Deflected’ is a sweet, steamy and incredibly entertaining story, you won’t be able to put down. Also, I am looking forward to read Jasper ‘Caveman’ Flint’s story 🙂 I hope that will be next and maybe it will be him and Clarissa, who knows 🙂
Would I recommend this book: Yes.
Would I re-read this book: Yes.
Would I read future books by this author: Yes.
Love! Hockey, bad-boy, romance and books, what is there not to love. Alex and Rosalind are amazing characters. The back and forth hate-to-love relationship sucks you right in and keeps you holding on until the end.
This series is the BEST! I just love the way Jami writes her hockey hunks!
Hockey’s bad boy is getting tamed! With the next book in the beloved Seattle Sockeye’s hockey series, we’re getting Rush’s story. He’s been quite the partying playboy in past books, so it’s great to get to know the real guy underneath all of the masks. There’s no hockey in the book since it’s the off-season, and there were a few plot holes that could have been tweaked a bit, but overall I really enjoyed the story and look forward to more in the series!
Professional hockey player Alexander Markov AKA Rush is at the top of his game now that his team brought home the Stanley Cup. He’s celebrating non-stop with parties, booze and women … until team management brings it all to a grinding halt! They want him to prove that he can handle more responsibility with the team by spending the rest of the off-season lying low and cutting out the booze and womanizing.
Rosalind Newcomb can’t believe her bad luck when the biggest player in hockey shows up in her bookstore on Madrona Island. She instantly dislikes him, and isn’t going to fall for his smooth talker flirting that has most women falling at his feet. Try as she might, she can’t stop starting to soften towards the guy when the mask that he’s always shown the public starts to crumble and let’s her see the real guy underneath the surface.
I have been absolutely hooked to all of these Sockeyes players and their stories. I anticipate the next ones story after finishing each one and I just knew that Rush’s was going to be good.
In the small island town after getting in trouble with the Sockeyes for his behavior he comes across a bookstore and an owner that instantly has him attracted. One problem with that…she isn’t falling for his charms. In fact it seems as if she can’t stand him and the more the see each other the more the feeling is mutual except the attraction is still there.
Alex is determined to win Rosalind over. The more time he spends around her the more he finds he likes her and the more it seems like he is breaking down her walls. The problem with all this is he hasn’t been entirely truthful why he there. He also doesn’t open up about his past so when things progress he may lose any chance he could have with her.
The banter and chemistry between Alex and Rosalind is one that will have you sucked in. You will be hooked and eager to see how it will all play out. What happens when secrets are revealed? What happens when his exile is over? Will he go back to his party ways or will he finally admit that he has let someone mean more to him than he expected?
You don’t have to read the other books in this series to enjoy this book so don’t let that keep you from opening this book. I highly recommend this one and the others as well. They are all really entertaining and enjoyable reads!
I loved this book and the hidden side to Alex “Rush” Markov. He is more than what he even shows because of his past and a desire to forget. His partying ways after the cup win are causing him issues with the team and they lay the law down…unbeknownst to the team and even Rush himself he has already grown tired of the partying ways and womanizing. When he is “exiled” to the island to clean up his act he finds a bookstore which is right up his alley. He meets Rosalind bookstore owner and hidden romance writer.
Rosalind at first really gets on my nerves…because of her better than attitude with Alex. She eventually redeems herself in my eyes but it takes a while. She is struggling to keep the bookstore open while trying to maintain her anonymous best seller romance career. Alex reads one of her novels, not knowing she is the author, and criticizes her hockey references and helps her help the author. He eventually finds out she is the author and tries to build her confidence in her writing and convince her to let the town know she is writing under a pen name.
Overall, this is an awesome book as always from Jami! I highly recommend reading all the books in the series and the ones that tie in…you won’t be sorry. I was offered an ARC for an honest review.
Stanley Cup exile
Alex is known by his team as a player on and off the ice. However, two weeks after they win the Stanley Cup and he’s still partying it up…the team management steps in to rectify the situation. Alex is being exiled to Madronas Island to stay under the radar of the media and also to prove he wants to have a more vital role within the team, now that some of their key players are stepping down!
Rosalind is a small town girl and has lived on the island most of her life, except for some college where she lived on the mainland. She has inflexible plans as to her future and when Alex arrives on the island and more specifically in her bookstore, her well ordered life is quickly turned upside down
Loved this story of Alex and Roz and getting to know more about his past and how he came to be the person he is or better yet, portray! I look forward to more in this series and would recommend anything Jami has written as all her stories are great
