We pulled the trigger and braced ourselves for the fallout. We were ready for anything. Or so we thought.War revealed our greatest weaknesses, the ones inside of us that we kept hidden. It forced us to face our vulnerabilities, to overcome the battles within that threatened to hold us prisoner.Enemies came in all forms, but so did strength. As a united front, we were unstoppable. Our power came … unstoppable. Our power came from each other, and our greatest weapon was about to be unleashed.

3.5 stars – I have mixed feelings about this installment in the Defiance Falls trilogy. I absolutely loved the first one and enjoyed the second, but with Defiance Falls War, it’s hard to say exactly where I land on this one.
One of the best parts of this book is that we finally get some solid soccer content. For the previous two books we’ve heard a lot about how incredible Hazel and the boys are at soccer, but we finally got to see them in action. The scenes involving soccer aren’t too long, but they add so much to the story and remind you that these characters are all still teenagers. Plus, it’s just great to read along as Hazel kicks major butt on the soccer field.
I also liked that some loose ends were tied up. I won’t say exactly what happens, but expect to learn more about the sophomore JV players, Seamus Malone, and some of the boys’ transgressions from the earlier books. I was very satisfied with where these storylines went.
One of my biggest hold ups with this book is that there is a lot of time spent speaking about action and very little time for the action to take place. The more tense and exciting scenes seem slightly rushed and I wish there was a bit more meat to them. It’s important to note that the scenes themselves are very good, I just felt their timing was off.
I also struggle with Hazel and Cruz’s relationship. On one hand, I like that things aren’t always easy for them and that they do have some fights, but I can’t help but wish they got to have more happy moments. The two of them have been through so much individually and together that it’s hard to see them struggle to figure out how to be together.
All in all, I did like this final book and would absolutely, definitely recommend reading it ASAP to finally get all of your Defiance Falls questions answered!
An awesome conclusion to this series! Plot twists and drama kept me turning the pages until the end!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the last book of the Defiance Falls Series. I absolutely loved it and thought Ali Dean wrapped it well with no unanswered questions. This story had it all, action, love, and mystery.
Ali Dean’s ability to tell a story gets better and better!
If you haven’t read any of the previous books there are *SPOILERS* ahead………….
Hazel, Cruz, and the gang had just released all the evidence against the Malone’s and are now tying up loose ends. Cruz is having a hard time dealing with things now that the years of plotting his revenge for his Mothers murder may be coming to an end. The enemy makes some desperate moves, and other enemies surprise them in other ways.
Will the war with the Malone’s end and what will life be like if it does?
This series was a lot different than the authors other books that I have read. Normally each book has it own story and then builds from there. Not this series! It was one long book broke into 3. I am happy that the author did not take long to put the 2nd and 3rd books out. The first book left me with so my questions. I got some of the answers in the second book. By the time I finished the 3rd it all came together. There was a lot of things going on with a lot of characters that I had to re-read parts of books 1and 2.
I really like the characters Hazel, Cruz and the rest of the gang. To me, I think it would have made more sense to have the setting take place at Harvard and not in high school. The plots that they were involved in seemed very mature for the age group, especially since it all seemed to start as freshman in high school. I don’t want to put any spoilers out, but it was a really good read. I have always loved this authors books. Not my favorite series, but it still was really good story line.
Hazel, Cruz, Emmett, Moody, Spike and Bodhi with Jeremy’s help get it all figured out and the Malone’s get what they deserve. Ali Dean has written another excellent series first Pepper Jones then Stark Springs Academy and now Defiance Falls. What will come out of her brain and fingers next?
