How far will she go to protect the sexiest guy in tech? When ex-marine Georgia Bennett left the military for high-end private security, it was supposed to soften her snarky attitude. Instead, her short fuse just earned her a punishment of an assignment: protect too-smart-for-his-own-good tech genius and Department of Defense contractor Parker Livingston. It should have been easy–only no one … easy–only no one warned Georgia that Parker was one seriously drop-dead-gorgeous geek.
The last thing Parker needs is a bodyguard, especially not one with killer curves and a sassy mouth who tempts him to do something incredibly stupid. He’s too busy investigating whoever is turning his technology against him and threatening his team of covert operatives. But when an assassin sends Georgia and Parker running for their lives, it might just be the explosive sexual chemistry and the trust that’s building between them that saves their necks. Because the only thing more dangerous than the combination of Parker’s intellect and Georgia’s aim is their steadfast desire to protect each other, no matter the cost.

I finally got around to trying this series which I’d heard so many good things about. I honestly can’t remember the last time I was so blown away by a debut novel. It’s just that good. I devoured all three books and you should too. You’re welcome.
Amazing novel!! One of my favorite contemporary reads of all-time! A definite must read
This was my first book from this author, and it won’t be the last. Fantastic writing, fast-paced romantic suspense. Highly recommend!
“Excellent.
Love all the characters, the plot, the action and twists, the deep thoughtful conversations between the characters. I really enjoyed her writing. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Love the audiobook too.”
Suspenseful, sexy, page-turning fun. Sexy geeks are my jam, and I adored Parker. Georgia was relatable and endearing as well, and the two of them together are dynamite. Loved this book!
Defenseless is a perfect meld of suspense and romance. The main characters Georgia and Parker keep a lively banter that is humorous and a touch snarky. I love how Georgia is the bodyguard. She is smart and capable, assured of herself. Parker is great in that he isn’t the typical anti social, ungrateful brainiac. Somehow on the run from bad guys, they still manage to bring out the best in each other. I really enjoyed the suspense and the twists. Trying to follow the layers of government intrigue, power plays, and personal gains kept me on my toes. I enjoyed this enough to immediately seek out the next book in the series.
This book was a lovely surprise. I’m not usually up for political thrillers, but this didn’t really skate too far into that territory besides who was behind the curtain, as it were. This is extremely well done On The Run Romance. Often this kind of setup doesn’t work for me because I don’t buy the emotional development between the leads. Not so in this case! Dyer does a masterful job of stripping away all the BS and revealing the heart of these two, such that I had no trouble believing in their relationship. Uber strong shero and a hero who appreciates the hell out of that (and finds a way to take care of her in exactly the right way that doesn’t diminish her in the slightest). It was really emotionally satisfying with a setup that opens the door for lots of future books centering around Somerton Security. Two thumbs up!
Really Great Suspense Romantic! This was my first Elizabeth Dyer’s book. This is a really great suspense romantic, fast paced and really entertaining! The story line is well built and really well written. I love the two main characters, Parker and Georgia. This was my first listen to Aiden Snow. The narration was very great. I can’t wait to listen to the next book in this Series.
Excellent book. I thought it was only a suspense book but was happy to see the romance in it too. You could feel the attraction between Georgia and Parker immediately. Her tough bravado softened with him and his sometimes techie innocence.
Loved the detail in the tech that she at times dumbed down for the readers. I felt like I actually learned something. I can’t wait for the next book!
Defenceless is the first book in the Somerton Security series, and we meet the guys and girls of that for the first time. Georgia is an ex-marine, hanging onto her job by her fingernails. She is not your ‘typical’ woman, and can’t be doing with frou-frou, which doesn’t help with the socialite crowd. When her boss, Ethan, offers her a job, she knows it’s last chance saloon. What she didn’t know was how Parker, super geek supreme, would affect her.
This was a great book to start the series with – it has pretty much everything you could want, plus a nice role reversal of male geek and female marine. There is action and suspense, along with a healthy dose of anticipation and sorrow. I think the only thing that stopped this being a 5-star review from me is Georgia herself. She is fantastic at supporting Parker and boosting his confidence, but her own is so low. This may sound harsh, but I got a little bit fed up of ‘poor Georgia’ and wanted her to kick ass like she had done so many times before.
With a great storyline, no editing or grammatical errors to be noticed, plus a smooth and flowing pace, this book was thoroughly enjoyable, and definitely recommended by me.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

Archaeolibrarian – I Dig Good Books!
Georgia Bennett is an ex-marine who is now working for Somerton Security and has become a babysitter/bodyguard for Parker Livingston, the creator of Jungle Gem.
There is immediate attraction between Georgia and Parker but soon they realize that Parker is a wanted man and the two find themselves on the run from an enemy they don’t know.
But is there more to Parker than what Georgia knows and does he know something about her brother, Will, who was killed overseas? When it’s clear there is a mole somewhere within their group will they find it in time?
This was a great book and introduction to Somerton Security. I look forward to more books in the series.
Georgia is a tough girl but there was another side of her that slowly evolved with Parker. The two had so much attraction and chemistry and truly had to rely on one another as they found safe places to hide.
Parker ended up being so much more than I was expecting and it was no wonder people were after him. I knew the one big secret he was hiding from Georgia would come back to haunt him but I also understood why he was keeping it a secret.
This book had lots of romance but also there was a much larger mystery going on with why people were after Parker and who was involved with it. The book was definitely page-turning and I loved how it kept me involved from start to finish!
The ending was explosive and I was glad with what happened but the ending also led us to the next book as things are not over yet! – By Rebecca

Defenseless is the debut title of Elizabeth Dyer. Defenseless is the first title in the Somerton Security series and features Georgia Bennett and Parker Livingston.
I love a romantic suspense, and was completely captivated by the uniqueness of this plot that the heroine is the bad-ass protector, with a military background and not a damsel in distress.
I found both Georgia and Parker’s characters to be incredibly endearing and intriguing. Georgia is no wilting violet she is bad-ass, strong, snarky, quick witted, self assured and she has a touch of vulnerability and sweetness.
Parker is equal parts bumbling professor and alpha protector. He’s a genius, but adaptable to situations and when he wants to be he is quite charming and very like-able.
I really enjoyed the clever, sexy, snarky and at times humorous banter shared between this pair. I thoroughly enjoyed the references to nerd pop culture throughout the plot. Their chemistry is undeniable and whilst intense at times, I felt at times there could have been a tad more moments of heat. For me some of the later parts of the book were a little repetitive in regard to the program Parker had developed.
Overall this story is engaging and well paced, full of twists and turns, intrigue, suspense and action. I will be eagerly awaiting the next title in the Somerton Security series.
Defenseless is the exciting first book in the Somerton Security series by Elizabeth Dyer. Georgia and Parker are fantastic characters with so much chemistry. I loved them instantly! It’s a thrilling romantic suspense filled with intrigue, dangerous twists and turns, witty banter, love, and loss. I was hooked from the start. I can’t wait to start the next book!
12/12/17 ~ Not a huge fan of “insta-love”, but I liked the banter between the two main characters and enjoyed the inclusion of a strong female lead. Looking forward to the continuation of the series.
Update 3/24/19 ~ I’m actually bumping this from a 4 to a 5. It’s not all that often that I find myself enjoying a story even more after repeated reading & listening (I tend to pick it apart more), but I think there’s so many layers to this that I’ve found little tidbits I missed the first time around.
While this is insta-love (my pet peeve), Georgia & Parker spend so much time getting to know each other that it feels like a lengthy relationship packed into mere days. And not just the sex. They talk & talk & talk ~ but in a meaningful way, not just an info-dump.
My singular complaint is that Parker has the nickname “peanut” because he’s allergic to peanuts (which caused a major reaction on an Op) ~ but in the epilogue he’s sharing Reese’s Pieces with Georgia. Ummmm, nope those are peanut based.
I also originally read this via KU, but the purchase + adding the audiobook was such a great deal ~ I decided to go for it. Aiden Snow’s narration is spot on (and I usually prefer dual narrators when a book is dual POV). It brings it up another level.
Romantic Suspense at its best! This is my first book by Elizabeth Dyer, but I’m adding her to my *auto-buy* list!
Let me start by saying I Love Georgia. She is a badass who I would on my side in any fight. This was a great book , I love how the gender roles were flipped . Georgia is a the badass ex marine and Parker needs protecting. It is a great story
