An Amazon Charts bestseller.Protection leads to passion in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s dangerously hot Mountain Mercenaries adventure.Dispatched to the Dominican Republic to rescue a kidnapped child, former Marine Archer “Arrow” Kane makes a startling discovery: another hostage—Morgan Byrd, a very beautiful and very well-known missing person who disappeared off the streets of … person who disappeared off the streets of Atlanta a year ago. She’s brave, resilient, and unbroken. All Arrow wants to know is why she ended up in a shack in Santo Domingo. All he feels is the desire to protect.
Morgan is done being the victim and is determined to find out who hates her so much that they want her gone—but not dead. For Arrow, protecting this woman with a mysterious enemy is the most dangerous mission of his life. And it’s worth every beat of his heart.

Susan Stoker never fails her men and women and this book is no different. She adds heat, attraction, danger, and menace to Archer and Morgan’s lives then sits back to see where they take it from there. What a journey! The danger was there all along but so was the passion of the Mountain Mercenaries for their women. Love this book. Thank you Susan Stoker!
Archer and his team find an unexpected hostage and helps Morgan return home. Danger follows and the team steps in again to solve the mystery. Good addition to Mountain Mercenaries series,
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
Plenty of potential, not my favorite
Book 3 in the Mountain Mercenaries series, you don’t need to have the first books to enjoy this one. Characters do carryover, however, so imo, having that background would add to the experience here.
I typically enjoy this author’s books, and there was plenty of potential with both the characters and the setup, but I had trouble getting into this. I think some of it was not really relating to the characters (a must for me) and some the feeling the plot here was partly recycled from earlier books by the author. And the rest of the plot was either not very believable or just not particularly enjoyable for me.
I’ll probably give this a reread at some point to see if part of the problem was just my frame of mind, but for now at least, this just isn’t my favorite. 3 stars
This is such a great book!
I truly enjoyed reading it!
It is an engaging, suspenseful & moving story. Morgan & Arrow steal your heart
from the very first pages to the last.
Another great book in the series.
I loved everything about this must
read story!!
Such a heartbreaking yet totally breathtaking story. Arrow has to be the most selfless male with a will of steel. He was so sweet with how he handled Chloe and helped her move forward with her life. Just a beautiful story.
Wow! Such a unique and interesting story. I really enjoyed the overall message that even though bad things happen you can still preserver. I absolutely adore Morgan for her resilience. Archer “Arrow” is the perfect match for Morgan. He may be burly and dangerous, but he is kind and understanding when it counts. I loved watching their relationship develop and the way each changed over time. I loved all the twists and turns this book took and could not put it down!
This was a very realistic story about a woman being kidnapped and sexually and mentally abused. Arrow was one of the guys who rescued her. they were looking for a little girl and found her as well. A very well written story, but may cause triggers for some.
Susan Stoker managed to keep me on the edge of my seat once again with Defending Morgan. Being held captive in a foreign country, being abused and violated for over a year, Morgan was still protecting a young girl who had been kidnapped from her mom. Archer is sent to find the little girl but gets an enormous surprise when he discovers Morgan is there too and there is no doubt that he will be taking her with him too.
I loved Archer and Morgan’s tale and couldn’t put this book down.
I love all of Susan’s books! I devour them. They are perfect. I really loved Morgan and what she had to overcome. Arrow was the perfect Hero. Totally swoon worthy! Could anyone be more perfect!!!
Susan Stoker is adept at weaving past characters into her series and this is no different. Just the right amount of suspense and romance and friendship. I had a feeling who the bad guy was and I wasn’t wrong. Overall an easy read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I loved this book. I adore all of Ms. Stoker’s stories. She gives such a wonderful background information that prior characters that show up feel like old “friends”. I loved the dual POV format here. I haven’t been through what Morgan did so seeing her thought process really helped me to fully understand her actions. I love all of the men of the Mountain Mercenaries. They are such strong confident alphas but are tender, loving men to their women.
I wish that there were more to the rescue scene then were but the plot was a good solid one that carry me throughout and made it hard to put down. You can really feel a part of the story like you are right there with the characters. I was sad to see this end but I eagerly look forward to Black’s story.
A word of warning though, the ordeal that Morgan went through in her captivity was not given any descriptive details BUT it may trigger a reaction to some.
This was soo good. I loved it.
Action packed, sexy, fun and exciting adventure filled with thrilling danger, witty banter and undeniable passion….. loved every heart pounding twist and turn in this engaging journey. This story had me hooked from the beginning and begging for it not to end.
Another terrific romantic suspense from Stoker!
When Arrow rescues Morgan from her captors in the Caribbean, they find there’s a spark between them, which they decide to pursue once she’s returned to the States. The way the characters’ connection built through the story was spot-on; they didn’t jump into anything, and they didn’t do any stupid push-and-pull.
I liked the character of Arrow. He’s brave, resourceful, and perceptive. I especially liked how willing he was to lay out his intentions and feelings regarding Morgan. The man did not play games.
Morgan is also a fantastic character – an excellent example of a strong female lead, despite almost hitting the mark of “too perfect.” Really though, I admired her big-picture thinking, her determination to pitch in, and her willingness to accept help.
Devious Ending! This is one I didn’t expect it to the person who did it. Susan Stoker’s always entertain & never fail to please. This time I’m having a hard time letting go of the story. The ending is hauntingly devious.
Oh my, wow! Susan you blew my mind. What an action packed shockingly suspenseful story! You continue to keep me on my toes with your amazing stories! I highly recommend this story to others!
A roller coaster of a ride right from page one as Archer aka Arrow ends up in the Dominican to rescue a kidnapped little girl and ends up with Morgan during the rescue as well. Morgan has been missing for a year, vanished from the U.S. and her dad has been in the spotlight, pleading for her return not letting the public forget her, that’s how Arrow knows who she is once she tells him her identity. Now he has to get her out as well, away from the kidnappers and out of the country. He will need all his resources and help from his boss to make it happen…will they come out on the other side and find out who was behind it?
Oh my my my my what an amazing read with steam, action, betrayal, and a tale of abuse that may be a trigger for some. A roller coaster of a ride with emotions that had me up, then down, then up again throughout the read. The strength and determination, the vulnerabilty, the fight that Morgan has left in her after everything she went through and yet would protect those weaker around her with a fierceness and putting herself in the line of fire….wow. Arrow, be still my heart for this mercenary, his compassion and protectiveness towards Morgan….left me in a puddle of goo…and his patience with Morgan’s issues….swoon, swoon, swoon.
A read that had me turning the pages from the beginning, not wanting to put it down, the action and suspense keeping me on the edge of my seat, the emotions that had me misty eyed and a twist I didn’t see coming…..highly recommended read.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
So good! This series is my favorite from this author so far. The Mountain Mercenaries is a team made up of former military of different branches that focus solely on saving women and children. Each book has a new mission and the content has some pretty heavy stuff. These women and children are being saved from something truly horrible, and then to find love in the process is a beautiful thing to read.
The heroines are strong women who have overcome some very serious situations. The heroes are tough, protective and take very good care of the women in their lives. The evil villains in each book will have you seeing red and having you rooting for the mercenaries to take them out. I love all these guys and can’t wait for the rest of the series. It looks like Black is up next.
I loved this book because Morgan was a strong women & Archer was a perfect gentleman . It kept you on you toes as to who the bad guys were & why someone would do this to another person. Like all Susan Stokers books it is well worth a read.
Susan Stoker does it again. Another great story that I didn’t want to put down. I absolutely loved it. Morgan was a strong woman that had a lot to overcome after her abduction and subsequent rescue, I adored her because she did her best to not let things get her down even if there were some bumps on the road. Arrow was determined to do what he needed to do for Morgan, even if it hurt him. The story as a whole was great, and I was surprised by the “villain”. I love this series and can’t wait to find out who Rex is (there’s finally explanation of why he organized the Mountain Mercenaries, so Yay!!), let alone get the stories for the other guys.
