Books don’t get any better than this exhilarating edge of seat romance where protection leads to passion. Arrow and Morgan are strong, vivid characters that come to life as they draw readers into their story with their blistering chemistry and scorching passion. Arrow is a sexy, former SEAL that makes heart pound in desire while Morgan is a strong, courageous woman that readers can identify with and most would love to take her place beside Arrow. The relationship is full of emotional turmoil that stems from Morgan ordeal and from Arrow’s issue with the situation which tugs at heartstrings and warms the heart with the sweetness and intensity of the relationship blossoming between them.
The story has a fast pace that keeps the adrenaline pumping suspense building throughout ensuring that readers don’t want to miss not one little detail. Mountain Mercenaries form a rough and sexy group of alpha males that make wonderful book boyfriends and choosing just one of them would be extremely hard but Arrow may just be the one to edge in front of the others as he takes on his most dangerous mission of his life. Readers can help but become embroiled in the suspense that takes place nor can they hold back their surprise during the unexpected turn of events that take place during the conclusion of this exhilarating read.
If you are a Susan Stoker fan you know the saying “this book is her best yet”. Well I’m telling you Defending Morgan is her best yet. Oh my goodness there were times that I laughed historically and other times I was ugly crying. I absolutely loved the chemistry between Archer and Morgan. Susan pulls you right into her books as if you are one of her characters. The Mountain Mercenaries series has become my favorite series.
DEFENDING MORGAN (Mountain Mercenaries Book 3) by Susan Stoker is another exciting romantic suspense addition to the Mountain Mercenaries series. All of these books can be read as standalones, but there is character crossover with each book adding another HEA to the group of friends.
Ex-Navy SEAL Archer “Arrow” Kane is part of a team sent by Rex, the leader of the Mountain Mercenaries to the Dominican Republic to rescue a kidnapped child. The team is surprised when they find the child, they also find an American woman who has been missing from Atlanta for over a year.
Morgan Byrd was abducted and disappeared while out with friends. Her father kept her story in the news and never gave up hope of finding her. Arrow recognizes her and has an instant need to protect this strong and brave woman. He wants to know how and why she ended up in Santa Domingo and so does Morgan.
Arrow offers Morgan a safe place to stay until the Mountain Mercenaries can find out who wanted Morgan gone, but not dead.
This book is not what I was expecting, although I should have. While Morgan was abducted, she was sexually abused and tortured. The descriptions are not graphic and mainly handled behind a psychologist’s closed door, but as you can imagine there is a very slow build up to any type of intimacy. I cheered every step forward Morgan made. Arrow is amazing in his respect and patience. The talks the couple shared displayed their intimacy. Their relationship builds at a realistic pace with the inclusion of professional help. I was shocked at the end when the villain of this story was revealed and I had a hard time accepting it. It was a surprise that left me unsatisfied.
I still find this series to be entertaining and I love watching each mercenary meet his perfect match. These books all have strong, alpha male heroes and heroines who have been through terrible circumstances, but remain resilient and loving. I am looking forward to reading many more HEAs in this series!
Thanks very much to Net Galley and Montlake Romance for allowing me to read this ARC.

I Liked the fact that the story was more realistic about what happens to the heroine. I thought the story was well written and the plot kept me guessing about who was behind the kidnapping.

New release from Susan Stoker! This book is everything.
It seemed the nice life for Morgan; she has friends; she dates; she makes a living as a bee keeper; and, she has fun. However, her parents are divorced and they hate each other which doesn’t make it easy to be around them. You know the life story when the parents cheat on each other so neither can see what happens to the children in the family as hatred is spewed and being around this atmosphere is destructive. Then a terrible crime is committed; Morgan’s life is at stake; and no one seems to be able to save her. This story has twists, turns and heartache. I loved little Nina as her life unfolded as it mixed in the situation with Morgan and the Mountain Mercenaries entered the story-line. The book will bring tears, tension, mystery and wonderful entertainment. Excellent writing and I couldn’t put it down. Thanks.
I’ve decided that Susan Stoker’s mind is a very scary place. I don’t know how she consistently comes up with new and harrowing ideas but they are excellent.
I have been waiting for this book since the tease at the end of Defending Chloe. The accidental discovery of someone who has been missing for a year while rescuing a child taken by her father was surprising to say the least.
Archer and his team have paperwork for the child to return to the states but not for Morgan. Having them split up to avoid detection had me biting my nails even as I could smell the garbage and see the abandoned rundown building they hid in.
Keeping Morgan safe while also gaining information was a challenge Archer accepted without question.
For Morgan the return to the US did not ensure her safety. Whoever arranged for her to be taken and kept out of sight in the Caribbean was still out there and the possible suspects were many.
Plenty of hold your breath action, family drama, and romance as the Mountain Mercenaries do what they do best. Protect and find answers.
The twists and turns in this book had me on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page. Morgan and Arrow have a chemistry that will not be ignored and when the whole truth comes out, just wow.
I can’t wait to read Harlow and Black’s book, the tease has me wanting it now.
Title: Defending Morgan
Author: Susan Stoker
Publication Date: March 5, 2019
Another winner in the Mountain Mercenaries series. Great H/h, flow and a bombshell of a reveal.
Do yourself a favor and get this book.
I love the Mountain Mercenaries and this is Arrow’s book. They rescue Morgan while rescuing a child and she and Arrow have an instant connection. This book shows the aftermath of kidnapping and rape and how it affects a couple. Very well done. We have lots of action and suspense, smothering parents, 2 exes who can’t get along, the MM and their women, a AMF drink, a great who done it and love.
This author has many on my TBR list with only having read one before this one. When I was able to get into this one I dance with glee. She has the kind of alphas that have you wishing for one in real time. Arrow does keep your attention in this especially when he finds extra. As you get deeper into this you are also taken over with emotions this one starts. The anticipation also carries you looking for what is next. She gives you the meat and dessert in her novels with I know soon will crave another.
Defending Morgan was a story that tore at my heart and confirmed why I love this series. A story of connections formed when you least expect it. It will have you on the edge of your seat and falling in love with Arrow and Morgan. This book is packed full of twists and turns, tragic circumstances and a surprise finding that you will never see coming. Ultimately it is a love story of depth, growth and finding peace, strength and understanding in a man who only has eyes for you.
In Morgan Byrd, Susan Stoker has created one of the strongest female characters I’ve ever met. A woman, who despite an unspeakable tragedy, protects others without thinking of her own self preservation. I also loved Arrow Kane’s willingness to to accept Morgan’s limitations without reservations and by doing so gives her the freedom to heal in her own timeframe. The Mountain Mercenaries team works tirelessly to find Morgan’s abductor and when the truth is revealed it’s shocking to all.
Susan Stoker does it again. I really enjoyed this fast moving book with her new characters. Susan Stoker keeps you guessing and wanting more.
Love this series… really didn’t care for this book! I tried to listen to the audio could not stand her voice, primarily her constant quick intake of breath! All of these books are instant attraction, virtually instant love, conflict of somebody trying to hurt the girl and I have really liked all of the other storylines but this one just read totally predictable and unrealistic! But I’m still looking forward to Black’s story!
Mountain Mercenaries book 3 Defending Morgan, Arrow’s story.
Oh my God you guys! From the first page I was at the edge of my seat.
The Mercenaries are on a mission to rescue a little girl in Santa Domingo they find her and a woman named Morgan who was kidnapped a year ago. Arrow has an instant connection to Morgan for her strength alone. Now they need to get both Morgan and the little girl out of the country.
But, there is still the question as to who wanted Morgan kidnapped in the first place. Arrow will protect Morgan with his life, which may come down to just that.
I loved how Susan handled Morgan’s trauma and how Arrow supported her. Susan writes badass Alpha men and strong yet vulnerable women. Real issues in today’s world.
