This is a good prequel to the series. I liked Dane and Keirnan a lot, this story just sometimes had too much explanantion.
What a wonderful story of love, healing, hope and family.
The author does a great job with the characters and their backgrounds, showing us strong family ties. Dane Copeland is a man trying to figure out life raising a precocious 5 year old daughter after losing his wife in a tragic accident while also trying to navigate civilian life after retiring from the military.
Keirnan Vickers understands military life with her father and brother both serving. She also happens to be the school teacher to Dane’s daughter.
This book has all the right amounts of drama, suspense, and romance.
Loved finding out how GHOST started. Can’t wait for more.
Back to the beginning with heart heat and family. Loved finding out how it all began. You have plenty of surprises twists and turns that will keep you engaged from beginning to end. You can feel the emotions great characters and yes I teared up some too. Definitely recommend reading. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
Another great read by Patti. There was a lot of intrigue, danger, kidnappings and secrets. I loved Emmy she was a doll. Her dad, Dane was out of the service to take care of his little girl, his wife, Catherine, was hit by a drunk driver at a young age. His mother had been helping him while he was in the service, but he’s out now. When he met Keirnan, sparks started to fly. I wish I had read this first before the other books, since I already knew Gaige’s story, but this is how the series begin. HEA.
5 stars
I purchased a copy of the steamy novel Defending Keirnan : GHOST Prequel: Dane and Keirnan by PJ Fiala and this review was given freely.
Based on vengeance and on finding love again after the loss of a spouse, this is an intensely suspenseful and action packed story set in Friday Harbor, North Carolina and features newly retired Army Special Ops officer and single father Dane Copeland, his cute five year old daughter Emmy, a mildly steamy love story, the rescue of Beachwood Elementary School teacher Keirnan Vickers and the birth of the family founded Security Agency GHOST.
I love single dad romances and I am excited to read the rest of the GHOST series. Even though there are a lot of complicated pieces and people in this story, PJ explains them all so well and shows the real emotions behind the characters. I love the realism and character banter/dialogue.
Book one in the Ghost series a well written story with a very good storyline the story flowed smoothly across the pages. This is teacher Keirnan Vickers and single father Dane Copeland a ex-special operative with the Army and his daughter Emmy. This is the start of Ghost, Government Hidden Ops Specialty Team The story also includes Auggie Vickers, Elaine Vickers, her best friend Lexi, his Mother Estella, and more men friends of Dane’s. There is suspense, drama, danger, kidnapping, attempted murder, Catherine’s spirit (Dane’s deceased wife), and love. I want to read more in this series. I read a copy through K.U. and I am voluntarily reviewing.
It seems I always read the books of Ms Fiala backwards, this is the second book I’ve read and I first begin at the beginning, then turn to the end and from then onwards I read the book backwards until I’ve read it all. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the book, I do-but I have some problem when I encounter tense situations, I seem to want to skip them first and read them later. So I really enjoyed Defending Keirnan and I can recommend reading the book. This is what it’s all about:

This book has everything I look for – great characters, building suspense, strong resolution, credible events. Kiernan’s odd encounter with the man in the library at the start seems to thread through all the threats to her and the betrayal from the unexpected source is so engaging. And Dale, with his gorgeous daughter and his truly appealing mother – that is the kind of man women dream about. And then there’s the writing. Towards the end (no, no spoilers), PJ Fiala makes you feel the suspense, the frustration, the visceral terror. The book is outstanding.
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
I am a fan of the GHOST series and I was excited to read the prequel. This is Dane and Keirnan’s story. The book is full of twists, action, suspense, and romance. I really liked Dane and Keirnan and the secondary characters. I felt they were all fully developed. I could also feel the chemistry between Dane and Keirnan. An excellent book, and I am looking forward to reading more in this series
I received an ARC and volunteered to leave an honest review.
