Love is a life-and-death risk for the Mountain Mercenaries in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s explosive series of alpha heroes, hot action, and hard passion… wily dancer kept her cool—even after being kidnapped by an elusive human trafficker. And Gray couldn’t be happier when a grateful Allye follows him home to Colorado Springs…
For Allye, finding sanctuary in the arms—and bed—of the former Navy SEAL is only temporary. People are disappearing off the streets of San Francisco, victims of the same underground trade that targeted her, and Allye could be the key to dismantling the entire operation. She’s willing to do anything to bring them down. Gray isn’t—for good reason. But you don’t say no to a tough girl like Allye who refuses to play it safe.
Now Gray is risking more than ever before. The Mountain Mercenaries have his back. But is it enough to keep the woman he loves out of harm’s way?

Romance and thrilling action
Great characters and wonderful ingredients for a thriller: sex slave traders, an ex-navy SEAL, and a beautiful dancer that a villain desires as an addition to his exclusive collection. The beginning and middle wove a fascinating plot, but…
I was going to give four stars, but when Allye decided to go back and immediately got caught, that didn’t work for me. Sorry. I expected more from the ending.
But this is still a good book, and I have my own opinion about certain tropes. I’m going to read other books from this author.
A fabulous beginning to this new-to-me series.
Coming off the back of the Ace Security series, it took me a couple of chapters to adhere myself to these new characters, but Gray and Allye fight so freaking hard for their love that you can’t help but turning pages faster and faster in an effort to help them find their happy ending faster, lol.
Ms Stoker writes terribly-dispicable villains that you can’t help but love to hate.
Violence alert.
Still, shows how awesome our heroes in uniform are and their so very deep wounds.
The book was just OK. Too many overly descriptive sex scenes and not enough suspense content.
Stoker is great as always.
I couldn’t finish. The “bad guy”was too sadistic and no one in their right mind would’ve let themself get kidnapped by him and then had this relationship survive. It wasn’t my kind of romantic fantasy. No one would fantasize about this.
Defending Allye is action packed and full of suspense. From the first page, I was intrigued and looking forward to the adventure. Seeing how Allye and Gray handle not only the issue of trafficking but their relationship was a roller coaster ride that I am glad to have been on. Can’t wait to see what is next for the Mountain Mercenaries.
Note: this book has issues such as trafficking and abuse so intended for those mature adults 18+
LOVE THIS AUTHOR AND THIS SERIES!
I loved this book, the characters were realistic and the plot was well written.
This was an OK book. I do like this author’s writing but it seems that all her stories are starting to have this same kind of plot.
Couldn’t put it down. Very entertaining with realistic situations. I have read the entire series.
This is not a sweet and simple love story. It’s full of suspense and detailed danger, as well as white hot sexy scenes. But despite bordering on too hot to handle sex, which isn’t my cup of coffee, the rest of the novel is well written suspense that will keep readers dying to know how it ends. I felt like I got to know and admire Allye fairly well while Gray made the perfect knight-in-shining-armor book boyfriend.
You can never go wrong when reading a Susan Stoker. Her stories have you sitting on the edge of your seat one minute then swooning over the characters the next.
The best part though… they are unpredictably sexy. By the end of each book you’re ready to meet the next characters.
Susan Stoker is one of my favorite authors to binge on every summer. Defending Allye is no different!
Highly recommend this series to anyone who loves romantic suspense as much as I do.
First in series. Well written, suspenseful, action packed, emotional, keeps you interested from first page. Allye a dancer gets kidnapped and rescued all in one day. Gray, a mercenary gets called in to intercept a payment for Allye not realizing she is on the boat which gets blown up. Allye has had a crap life but does not let that stop here from being a better person. Nightingale the bad guy likes unusual things and stops at nothing to get what he wants, namely people that are different. The teaser in the back for the next book is very interesting so I have to get that book also.
Not typically my style of book (or cover should I say), but my friend recommended this book to me. I loved it! The suspense kept me on edge & the whirlwind romance sweeps you up to keep you turning the pages to the very end. So glad this is a series!
I was salivating over this book when I first saw it advertised but I couldn’t afford it for my Kindle. Then, surprise, it was one of the books available from a book group I belong to so I grabbed it. I love the way Susan Stoker builds the tension, lets it back off, then builds it again. And she does the same thing with the romance. To say I was so totally satisfied with this book is such an understatement. It has romance, tough guys (caring too although you won’t hear them saying that), and HEAs. What more could a reader ask for? Oh, and did I say I LOVE this book and you will too? Oh yeah, you need to read this book . . . first!!
Interesting story that deals with a nasty subject. Human trafficking. The fact that nobody but these mercenaries are dealing with it was just unbelievable. No FBI involved. Not realistic.
Likeable characters.
The real highlight was what happens to the baddie.
Read through KU.
The opening segment of Defending Alleye was truly unique. I was quickly caught up in the dangerous situation that Gray Rogers and Alleye Martin were in. Yet Gray’s efforts to keep Alleye focused and her sometimes witty responses to Gray made for compelling reading. I am a huge fan of romantic suspense especially when it involves a Navy SEAL. Both of them are emotionally scarred by horrendous life experiences and they struggle to achieve normalcy. The spark that leaps between them almost arcs off the page. Make no mistake there are lots of hot, steamy moments between Gray and Alleye. The bad guy in this story was sinister, psychotic and utterly bone chilling. Susan Stoker penned a compelling novel that is definitely worth reading
This is book 1 in the series Mountain Mercenaries. It’s appropriately named as the men and women of the series are fighting against all kinds of evil. This story is about human trafficking and sadly does exist today.
A lot of research was done for this series and is quite evident as you continue through the series
Loved this one! Susan Stoker never disappoints me. I needed a book with a strong alpha man with prior military service, and a strong woman who would give as good as she got. Check and check. This one has lots of action, suspense and hot steamy scenes too. A definite must read.
