Defending Allye is Book One in Susan Stoker’s new Mountain Mercenaries series. Even though this series appears to be a spin-off from an earlier series, it stands perfectly fine on its own. I can attest to that as this is the first book I have read by this author and was able to follow along just fine. I do plan to go back and check out the Ace Security series, however.
This book was jam-packed right from start with lots of action, drama, and suspense. Good character development and a very intriguing plot kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The villain was a disturbed creep so be forewarned.
This was a nice start to a new series and a new to me author that I certainly have not read the last of.
Terrific, tightly-written romantic suspense had me turning pages to find out what happened next. Stoker is a master of military suspense and this new Mountain Mercenaries series is off to a great start.
Gray is a former Navy SEAL with a boring day job who moonlights with an underground rescue group led by a mysterious “Charles Townsend” type. The group’s focus is shutting down human traffickers and rescuing the women caught in their net.
Allye is a dancer with a company in San Francisco. Karma seems to smite her at every turn and now she’s shackled to a boat and about to be turned over to her new “owner.” She has low expectations for how things are going to turn out.
I’ll admit it was quite difficult to read about some of the treatment/conditions for the other women in captivity. It’s not overdone, and it’s appropriate for the story line, but it’s brutal – physically and mentally. Just saying.
Welcome to a new Susan Stoker series about sexy, alpha, protectors and the women who come barreling into their lives and change it for the better. I am always a little leery starting a new series, even from an author I love. I’m never sure if I’ll love the new characters as much as the old ones and I can honestly say that I am completely in love!! Gray and Allye don’t meet in the typical way, while on a mission he is surprised to find her and has to change plans to save her. After the rescue they part ways, but as usual in a Stoker masterpiece it’s not forever and they meet up again and decide to see where the sparks take them while at the same time trying to figure out who had Allye kidnapped. This was an amazing start to a new series and I’m so excited to see the rest of the guys get their own happy ever after.
A book full of adventure and passion. I loved it. It was a true to form Susan Stoker book. Allye being rescued by a hot alpha male in the middle of the ocean and finding something unexpected. Great book!

Amazing start to this new series! Gray & Allye are perfect for each other! I love them together! From their hot and sexy times to the support and strength they give to each other. Allye is smart, sassy, fearless and strong; I love that in a heroine! Gray is a strong, sexy bada$$ former SEAL and lucky for Allye he is now a Mercenary whose team rescues people from bad situations. He rescues her from that boat to hell she was on and their time together to get to safety becomes something neither of them can forget. But that is just the beginning of Allye’s nightmare. Seems she is the object of the bad guy’s obsession and he won’t stop until he gets her again.
The villain in this story is such a sick bastard. I wanted to pluck his eyeballs out and feed them to him among other things.
This story is so good and so well written! And has an awesome and rewarding HEA. I am really looking forward to the rest of the guys in Mountain Mercenaries finding their HEAs!! They seem like a great bunch of guys! Especially Ro who from the epilogue looks like he is up next!
Allye is a dancer and is kidnapped. Gray was former SEAL and now is a part of Mountain Mercenaries. They are trying to shut a human trafficker down when he finds Allye. She goes back to California but forgets to give Gray the memory stick she took before the boat sank. She calls his boss and he gets her to Colorado. Gray is shocked but happy she’s there. Now the person who had her kidnapped is taken girls from her dance studio until she comes back. She’s scared but she’ll do anything to keep her friends safe even if that’s offering herself up as bait. Gray is not happy and they fight. Can he get her back and shut down the trafficking? Excellent story. This is the first in a new series and it is already off to a great start. Sex. Mystery. And a boss who no one has meet and disguises his voice over the phone. Reminds me of Charlie from Charlie’s Angels but with men .
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley *
These characters didn’t immediately speak to me. But by the end of the book I wanted to read more of the series.
“Defending Allye” is the first book in the Mountain Mercenaries series and wow, this series is off to a fantastic start. The Mountain Mercenaries is a group of men, led by a mysterious man named Rex that are sent out on missions to protect women and children from human trafficking among other things. This is the story of Gray Rogers, a former Navy SEAL who happens to find Allye Martin, a kidnapped victim, by accident on a boat he happens to be checking out. They have some time in the water to get to know one another and the thing that surprises Gray the most, is how strong and calm the professional dancer is. Besides her unique looks, she doesn’t whine and complain, just does what she needs to do and what he tells her to, which makes her rescue that much easier. Come to find out, Allye has been purchased by a sadistic individual who has sick plans for her, some of the details in this book are graphic but they needed to be to explain how sick this man is.
If you love to read about strong heroines, romance, and suspense then this is the book for you.
Five “Kitten” stars for this one, now on to book two.
Great read.
I really LOVE Susan stoker. This is definitely a must read in the series
Love this
Awesome start to series he rescues her then she finds out the guy has a master plan she comes to Colorado to get his help he protects her but they fall in love hot sizzling romance he and his friends make the bad guy suffer wonderful happy ending
Very well written story but not for the faint of heart. Some parts are pretty hard to read due to their mature content.
Love this author! Guaranteed HEA-but after a LOT of struggle and twists! This is the only author I pre-order.
I rarely read contemporary novels, but this one caught my eye and I’m glad I got it. It’s a tiny window into the huge problem of sex trafficking in our world today.
Grayson is part of a group of men known as the Mountain Mercenaries. All former military warriors, they move in shadows to help uncover and stop trafficking across the globe. In an operation to steal funds used in the slave trade, Gray is surprised when he finds a woman held captive.
This is a roller coaster ride of action as well as an emotionally charged story. It’s also quite steamy. The tension kept me turning pages and I finished it in a day.
If you like contemporary romance with alpha males, graphic sexual scenes, and a glimpse into the brutal underworld, I think you’ll enjoy this book.
Defending Allye is the first book in the in the Mountains Mercenaries series. I don’t think this one grab me as much as her others in the Ace security series. The story Gray and Allye’s story starts slowly and things happened really slowly throughout the book. All in all this story was interesting. I will continue to read the others in the series to see if they get better. I still love her books so I hope the others will be more gripping
Susan Stoker is the absolute Queen of military suspense romance for me. Her books are a one-click staple of my kindle library and I have been reading her books since her SEAL of Protection series debuted. Her books are impossible to put down, the characters are relatable and the type of people you want to have as family of your very own.
This time out it’s Grey “Greyson” Rogers, who gets sent on a misson to retrieve a package. But things get difficult when the package turns out to be human. Allye is taken from home by a man who is obsessed with her unique features, but Allye is determined not to be a victim..
Grey is impressed with Alley from the start. She’s no simpering victim. But will she go too far to save her friends?
As always, it’s one of those reads I just couldn’t put down.. Not until very early in the morning. It was THAT good!
Another
Knock beginning to a series. This one has a group of ex military men that rescue or help people in need and still maintain normal everyday lives. Grey & Black are suppose to gather information and the money being exchanged for a dancer named Allye. But when Grey gets on the boat she is there and finding out more about Nightingale is but I’m hold.
This one was good! Allye was kidnapped and ultimately rescued by Gray who didn’t realize she was there. On the way to pick up, she does not complain and actually is sassy and helpful. He is totally captivated with her. By the time they are back to shore he knows he does not want to give her up but she goes one way and he heads home to Colorado. Soon she realizes she is being followed and calls the number she remembers and she is transported to Colorado and lands back in his lap. Women start disappearing when the trafficker cannot get to her. These alpha men are so hot and capable, I cannot wait to see where this series goes!
5-star
Susan’s books are the best. From the beginning to the end, nonstop enjoyment. I just absolutely love her books! Can’t wait for the rest.
