A steamy, emotional romance from USA Today Bestselling Author Alexa Padgett. “Two strong, battle-scarred people grapple with how to make a relationship work in the forceful first Austin After Dark contemporary.” ~ BookLifeRemembering the music I love… lets me forget a past that haunts me.I thought realizing my dream of country music stardom would chase away the ghosts of the past. But I didn’t … me.
I thought realizing my dream of country music stardom would chase away the ghosts of the past. But I didn’t understand how the horrors of war would imprint their scars on my heart… leaving me a shadow of the man I used to be.
Haunted by regret, filled with a rage I can’t control, I destroy my favorite guitar.
A J. Olsen original. The only instrument that allows my fingers to caress my music into creation.
Now, I need a new one, and in order to get it fast, I have to work with her–Jenna. She stirs something deep inside me. Something I haven’t felt in years.
When I stare into her breathtaking eyes for the first time, I see struggles that echo my own. The kind of torment that colors a woman’s soul. But I’m drawn to her–I just can’t stay away.
As our emotions start to blossom, creating a magic that rivals the music, Jenna’s dangerous ex reappears to play a reckless game. Between his lust for revenge and the unreasonable demands of my record label, we can’t catch our big break.
And unless we can both heal the wounds that remain shuttered in darkness, we’ll lose everything.

Love love love this book. I received it from the author and I so appreciate it. I was soooo shocked how she wrote this book. The twist and turns are crazy but luckily leads to a happily ever after. I felt soooooooooooo sad for both of them but happy they finally put each other first. I did cry and mad. Love pop-pop and sorry for dad.
I enjoyed this love story about two battle scarred people. The emotions run deep and the punches are powerful as Cam and Jenna’s romance unfolds. As much as I liked this read, I feel it is only fair to say prepare yourself. This book has a lot going on and feels like an intense roller coaster ride that never stops. It is not light, fun or sweet. So do not dive in expecting that.
Deep in the Heart is a touching tale of loss, love, and hope for a future filled with promise. Jenna and Cam’s heart wrenching story is an emotional rollercoaster ride that will have you gasping at twists and turns you’ll never see coming. A must-read!
Alexa Padgett’s novel tugs at the heart strings as Cam and Jenna learn to make sweet music together.
Absolutely heartfelt! You’ll fall for the characters every bit as much as they fall for each other.
What a winner! Are they going to get together? Do they like each other? Are they in love? This book brings out the wow in a love story. True love is hard to find and keep but what these two people went through in their lives would scare anyone away. Such intriguing story telling and how it was told, will have you flipping the pages faster. Loved reading this story!
This was a good read. I did fell that some parts dragged on too long and there seems to be a lot going on.
I’m not really sure where to start off. So I will start with this. This is my first book by Alexa Padgett. It was quite an interesting read. While the writing was good, there was so much going on all at once, it was so hard to keep up. It was like, plot on top of plot, drama after drama. Personally it was too much for me. The characters were just okay to me, they were more annoying than not. I feel like the Hero was childish in the way he acted, and was one to make decisions off of not knowing the facts, all of the time. The Heroine, I understand she had reasons to be the way she was, but to see someone not try to make their life better is very infuriating. And her thought process drove me insane. I also feel like with every situation that occurred right or wrong, it was just swept under the rug. Even the big issues, that should have been dealt with, or at least brought up; like thinking of taking all your meds to commit suicide while your supposedly pregnant, that is a HUGE issue, and it was just left as it was normal to have those thoughts. The story line held a lot of promise, and I sincerely wish I could give it the 5 stars, but I can’t. The things that I did love was the DUAL POV. I find it more enjoyable to see inside all of the main characters heads. I also loved the relationship between the heroine and her grandfather. I love how they find joy in something as substantial as creating a music instrument with their hands. I love that they acknowledge how music can affect just one persons life. Other than that, there is not much more. I am hoping that with this authors writing I can find something in the future that I will enjoy.
*Reviewed for Reviews From the Heart
I have mixed emotions about this book. I really liked the story and the characters. Both Jenna and Camden went through a lot in their lives. That was one of my problems. To me there was too much going on with Jenna. Can one person have that much happen to them. I thought the PTSD was handled admirably. Every now and then I got lost and had to backtrack to see who was talking. A couple of times I count figure out what happened. All in all this is a good book but I think there was a little too much going on. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I would recommend this book.
It was quite good read a whirlwind of events that guarantees excitement. I loved how the characters grew through the story.
A great read. Jenna fixes and makes guitars, and gets asked to make guitars that are custom for an up and coming star plus she has her own wounds to heal. Camden Music helos him with his wounds plus he has a fractured past. This is a wonderful captivating story from the first page to the last. You can really feel for the characters and there emotions. I definitely recommend.

Can two broken souls find love? Jenna is back in Austin working with her grandfather making amazing guitars when she meets Camden, famous country’s singer and veteran from the Army. They feel an instant connection. But will they be able to face the demons form their past and have a future together? A rough but powerful love’s story. I received a free copy of this but I voluntarily reviewed it.
Deep in the Heart is a great read. I was caught up in this emotional romance right from the start. Jenna and Camden both have a lot of darkness in their pasts but there is something in each of them responds to the other. Jenna’s story in particular ripped my heart out because of what she endured not only in the past but in the present as well . Their romance is not smooth sailing but they do get their happy ending. The writing is excellent and the story is compelling. I couldn’t put this book down.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
An emotional read that has amazing characters and was well written. Cameron and Jenna will touch you emotionally. This is the first book in An Austin After Dark series and I look forward to the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Jenna is a little lost in life. After a series of mistakes cost her her confidence and almost her life, Jenna retreats to her grandfathers guitar shop making custom guitars for artists. Camden seems to have it all, a wife, an extremely successful music career, and friends who love him. Most of what he has known and believed in his life comes into question when his father dies. In his rage of grief he destroys the custom guitar Jenna’s grandfather had made for him. When he goes into the shop to get a new one made he meets Jenna and suddenly his life seems to be looking up, but Jenna is broken and what Camden doesn’t realize is so is he. Can they help each other heal their broken hearts? Will Jenna’s past continue to take away all that is beautiful in her life? I have read many of Alexa Padgett’s books and I have really enjoyed each and every one of them but this one was a step above the rest. The subject matter was dark but relevant and she does a good job of not making the subject matter into palatable fluff. She also does a good job of showing the emotions a person would experience in these types of situations and how love can help heal wide open scars that a person carries on their soul. This was not only a good romance it was a deeply moving emotional read for me. I highly recommend this one!

I really don’t know how to start this review. I actually wrote notes all over the place about this book because at first I really didn’t like it but the more I read I started to like it then half way through I loved it. I had mixed feelings about this story because it is about a couple that is broken in more ways than one and they really were very different. I mean they both have a rough background but Camden has PTSD from being in the war on Iraq and his unresolved family issues and Jenna comes from a broken relationship and has a stalker who will not take no for an answer. So I wasn’t sure how these two were going to fit together but it started to pull together and I really started to enjoy the story.
Camden and Jenna meet when Camden breaks his prize guitar because of his anger. So he goes to see Jenna who is a guitar maker. She says she can make his guitar but he puts a time reference on it to be made and she is not sure she can do it but she says she will try her best. As the two of them begin to talk the closer they get to each other and they form a bound as friends first then lovers.
I will say that some readers will not like all the drama coming at once but it really does make the story because there is never a lull or dull moment between these two and then add in the fact that Jenna’s stalker is out to destroy their new found relationship and this story is amazing! So go on and give it a go because you won’t be disappointed!
A new series looking forward to reading the next book a well written story that held my interest throughout. Jenna Olsen and Camden Grace both love music and both suffer from PTSD both from different things in their lives but when they meet and have a connection can they help each other heal. I would recommend this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I always love starting a new series of books and this one didn’t fail. Two characters brought together and what an amazing story they make.
I don’t want to give too much away but please give this book a read. So romantic with a gripping story.
2 broken, damaged souls find each other and fall in love. A tried and true trope to be sure, but the author really makes it work!
Jenna is a world famous guitar craftsperson. Her skills at handcrafting guitars in her Pop-pop’s shop have made the entire industry love her. But, she doesn’t live in that fame, no, she hides from it. Because she’s got a past that’s entrenched her in demon-making introversion. And then Cam walks into her shop. Another broken soul, just like her. And he relieves her of the pesky menace, Ben, who will turn out to be an even bigger problem than Jenna could ever have imagined.
Seriously, this story had me on the edge of my seat. It’s so full of drama that it’s almost like a soap. But it’s not cheesy like a soap. Nope, just emotionally twisty and a little bit heart-tugging. Reading these two fall in love and find some peace with each other was a beautiful thing. I haven’t read anything of this author’s before, but after having read Cam and Jenna’s story, I know I will be reading lots more in the future!
What an emotional journey…this book takes on.
Love the characters connection, and how their relationship grows..
Each milestone they make, the steps forward or backwards, they are real!
This book shows there isn’t an instant answer, but they characters found theirs
