fun, cozy read
I really enjoy this series. Lynn Cahoon weaves a nice, tight mystery that is totally enjoyable. I loved the State Fair setting. The characters are well developed and the storyline was definitely interesting. I was hungry for fair food by the time I was done reading.I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and I’m voluntarily providing an honest review.
Captivating! I felt like I was there at the fair, watching the competition. Had to keep reading to find out who the killer was, and why. Characterization was well written, for each of the team members.
Well another adventure for The County Seat crew is in the books (pun intended) and by miracle none of them died. It was close and I read the pages as fast as possible to see what was going to happen. I’m wondering if the work place romances are going to work or blow up The County Seat? I don’t see it ending well and it will be a very interesting next installment.
Another great trip to Idaho and The County Seat. The action in this one is centered around a County Fair and a restaurant competition. Of course our crew is right in the middle of the action, but what should be a fun event and a way to promote the restaurant, turns deadly when the winning chefs start getting knocked off. If that’s not enough Ian has taken a runaway under his wing. As usual there is plenty of action, some really shady characters and a lot of delicious sounding food. Don’t worry though our team will figure out what’s really going on, but not before they get themselves in trouble as usual.
Chefs are being targeted at a local cooking competition and Angie intends to get to the bottom of it. The writing is fresh and skillful. The plot is tight and multi-layered and filled with interesting characters. I’m looking forward to future installments. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
Deep Fried Revenge by Lynn Cahoon is a Farm-to-Fork mystery, the fifth in the series (plus a novella). We open the book with heroine Angie Turner and he boyfriend, Ian McNeal at the fair, Idaho’s largest. They have been eating and riding rides. Ian has been trying to win at the games, and there will be a cooking contest in a couple of days, until David Nubbins, another chef in the competition, winds of dead. They next day, the husband of another (very pregnant) chef ends up in the hospital poisoned. Can Angie win the contest for her restaurant? Can she help the sheriff (Ian’s uncle) solve the crimes?
This is just a fun book. I get it: someone dies. Other than that, Angie is a character. She’s not young. She’s not old. She and her partner came from the big city and are not sure they will be successful with their new restaurant here in the country. As are all cozies, this is a character driven book and Cahoon has given us plenty of characters, some permanent, some more transient, pretty much all, likable. Some of her characters are quirky, but who isn’t? It is a good story, decent mystery, lovely setting, and plenty of yummy food! I recommend it.
I received a free ARC of Deep Fried Revenge from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #deepfriedrevenge
Deep Fried Revenge is the 4th book in the Farm-To-Fork cozy mystery series and is another winner! It has everything I love about cozy mysteries- likable interesting characters, friendship, and an intriguing cozy mystery, What’s not to love! Angie and Felicia own a restaurant, County Seat, that serves locally grown produce and meat. They are entered in a cooking competition at the fair. This is an interesting storyline. On top of that, they are trying to help a teenager. Then after one of the chefs wins the daily event, he is poisoned. Who is next? Angie, her boyfriend Ian, and their friends need to figure it out before another chef is hurt. I had suspicions but it kept me guessing until the end. This is an awesome addition to the series and is very enjoyable! I received an advanced copy from NetGalley for an honest review.
Restaurant owner and chef Angie Turner is participating in Restaurant Wars at the state fair but finds herself dealing with a lot more than stress from the cooking competition. It seems someone is out to kill the winning chefs plus her boyfriend has befriended a mysterious homeless girl and then there is the matter of a stranger in the park that seems to know Angie and then turns up at her neighbor’s house.
I enjoyed the mysteries within the mystery and found the main characters although not perfect to be likable and relatable. Thanks to Kensington and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.
I love book series and I am loving this one. This was an interesting storyline with a cooking competition at a fair. Who doesn’t love a fair? All this along with running The County Seat. The food they cook sounds so yummy! The characters are great and we’ve added a new one, Bleak, who I hope will be around for a long time. This is a cozy mystery, so you know there is the mystery factor and the crime that must be solved. Who will be the bad person with so many options? See if you can figure it out. I can’t wait to hang with Angie, Ian, Felica, Estebe and crew again. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
County Fair Chaos
County Fair night complete with Restaurant Wars madness. Add to that someone is killing the winning chefs! I have not yet read the prior books in the series, but this one stands alone very well. This is a good story with an intriguing mystery and great characters. The mystery has lots of twists, plenty of suspects and enough paranoia for all. There are a few back stories going on at the same time . This book does not have a slow speed. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
From Lynn Cahoon comes the fourth installment in the “A Farm-to-Fork Mystery” cozy series, Deep Fried Revenge. Published by Kensington Books starting April 7th.
Angie and company are hard at work trying to win the Boise best restaurant competition. But when things turn nasty and restaurant owners start dying, Angie steps into the investigation to prevent anyone else from becoming the next victim. This cozy series has become a fan favorite. The characters are intelligent, charming, and easily likable. The setting of Boise, Idaho, although not a big city or a small town, has a certain ambiance that allows readers to achieve a small home town feeling without being too “city.”
The setting of a cooking competition, although not necessarily unique in a cozy series, allows the reader to be introduced to a more extensive cast, with some delightfully descriptive food ideas that will leave them craving summer festivals and fairs. The background of these characters is not needed to enjoy this book. Readers will have no trouble figuring out who the players are and what purpose they serve within the series and the plot of this new book.
The murder(s) and the subplot are all intertwined and keep readers guessing until the end of the book. Motives are plentiful, but the story never strays too far away from what readers would expect of a cozy series. Victims are not well known but aren’t disliked. The competition may be stiff, but the competitors are all talented chefs with restaurants that the audience would be thrilled to spend a couple of hours dining with family and friends. The unmasking of the killer is exciting and action-filled. Angie saves the day, as usual, but risks her life to get to the bottom of the investigation. She also happens to help save a young run-a-ways future while her relationship with Ian continues to blossom.
Ms. Cahoo’s writing is as always top-notch. Her characters are fully developed, very realistic, and a joy to spend time with. Her settings are always descriptive, and places readers would enjoy visiting over and over. I am pleased to see this cozy series continue to gain strength and look forward to the next addition. I am delighted to recommend Deep Fried Revenge.
Angie has entered her County Seat restaurant in a state fair competition but was sure that what was coming wasn’t on the menu. There are twelve competitors and the last one standing, so to speak, is the winner. When the first winning chef falls Angie better get to the bottom of it before she is added to the body count.
I enjoy spending time with Angie and Felicia and the rest of the people in this series. The animals are great, too. As for the setting, well, who wouldn’t like to spend time at the Boise State Fair with all of the food and rides and exhibits. Hold the homicide, please.
This entry can be read as a stand alone but do yourself a favor and get your hands on the rest of the series so you can binge on them when you have finished this one. Can’t wait for the next book, Penned In, coming out August 31, 2020.
This is book four of this series. Well written cozy was fun to read and nice and light to pass the time. Angie Turner enters her restaurant in the state fair challenge but when contestants start dropping she must solve the crime before more die. Nice and quick read.
AWESOME! Loved it! The best yet!
When the first Farm-to-Fork Mystery came out, I hoped I would love it at least half as much as I love Lynn Cahoon’s other series. I was amazed to discover that I loved it even more, and the more I have gotten to know the kitchen crew of The County Seat, the harder I have fall. Throughout the series, Ms. Cahoon builds Angie’s world by creating a realistic daily life that makes the intrigue easier to buy into. Time spent with Dom and the rest of the zoo is precious and draws me into the books as much as the humans and the mystery.
One of the things I enjoyed most about Deep Fried Revenge was getting to watch the guys work and play outside of the restaurant. The family feel made the free time feel so fun and once work kicked in, I appreciated seeing them work like a well-oiled machine. I loved spending more time with Ian than usual. We always get a good view of their growing romance, but this time he actually helped with the investigation. Angie, girl, that man is marriage material! Watching Estebe and Felicia together is awesome, and a bit worrisome; I have my fingers crossed for you two! And yes, there was a complex murder dropped in their laps.
I requested and was thrilled to receive an ARC of Deep Fried Revenge via NetGalley. If you follow me anywhere, you already know how much I love Lynn Cahoon’s work. I also pre-ordered a personal copy of the book because this is a reread forever series.
Deep Fried Revenge is the 4th book in the Farm-to-Fork Mystery series by author Lynn Cahoon and I have to say I think that it is my favorite in the series so far. This time around, Angie and the team from the Country Seat are entered in the best restaurant competition at the Boise State Fair. Unfortunately, this time around the competition is murder – literally. Not only that, this time around Sheriff Brown actually welcomes Angie’s help as she tries to dig up the murder before the next victim is someone from the restaurant.
In this installment, it feels like the series and characters are hitting their stride. The story, pace and mystery flow really well in this book and if I didn’t have a full-time job, I would have finished the book a lot sooner. The characters and their relationships with each other and romantic are developing well. As a reader, I can see the growth in them from book to book and each time I pick up a new installment I am excited to see the changes and developments. This time around, we add a new secondary character, a young runaway, whose story is also a bit of a mystery. Her name is Bleak and I really enjoyed her addition to the cast of characters. I’m hoping we will see more of her in future books.
The mystery was well done as always. Ms. Cahoon weaves clues throughout the story, and frankly, for this reader, uses her delicious description of the food made during the competition as a red herring used to distract this reader. There were actually two mysteries that were woven together nicely throughout the story. First, who is Bleak, where did she come from and why did she run away? Second, who is killing the chefs that are winning the various rounds in the food competition? Ms. Cahoon wrapped both of these up very nicely, with Angie once again in the thick of some danger, much to Ian’s worry.
This is a terrific series and I recommend it to culinary cozy mystery lovers and those who are fans of Ms. Cahoon’s other series. I will definitely be returning for the next installment, which was set up nicely at the end of this book.
I voluntarily read a digital advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher, Kensington, through Netgalley.
