“If you like CSI and well-crafted suspense, don’t miss these books” (RT Book Reviews)! The tenth novel in the New York Times bestselling Tracers series is a gripping romantic thriller from the author who “never fails to put me on the edge of my seat” (USA TODAY).
The moment detective Reed Novak steps onto the crime scene, he knows the case is going to rock his world. A beautiful young woman … his world. A beautiful young woman murdered at home. No sign of forced entry. No motive. She’s obviously not the killer’s first victim, and Reed’s instincts tell him she won’t be his last. Reed’s first clue comes via a mysterious text that links to a dating profile, but even more intriguing than the clue is the person who sent it.
As a white-hat hacker in the Delphi Center’s cyber investigation unit, Laney Knox sneaks into some of the deepest, darkest corners of the Internet looking for predators. Laney would prefer to stay away from Austin PD’s most recent murder case, but she can’t ignore the chilling similarities between that crime and her own brutal attack years ago. Laney offers to help the sexy lead detective, but he wants more from her than just a promising tip—Reed wants her trust. Laney resists, but as their relationship deepens she’s tempted to reveal the closely guarded secrets that could make her a key witness…or the killer’s next victim.

My favorite romantic suspense authors are the ones that write books that are both thrilling page-turners and smoldering romances, and Laura Griffin succeeds on both fronts! This was the book where I first fell in love with her storytelling, the tenth book in her Tracers series (it can definitely be read as a standalone).
I read this book in two days because I just couldn’t stop. The killer in Deep Dark is truly terrifying: a man who murders women after he stalks them online and finds ways to spy on them in their homes. Jaded detective Reed Novak is working the case when a younger white-hat hacker, Laney Knox, gets involved. Together they use their respective skills to catch the killer before more women die, even though the criminal’s techniques feel eerily similar to an attack Laney suffered years ago.
The cyber crime angle here felt fresh and unique, if incredibly disturbing. I turned pages as quick as I could, wondering what the killer was going to do next, where he was and who he was spying on.
The May/December romance between Reed, an older, hard-nosed investigator, and the younger, punkish Laney was really inviting–a perfect sexy pairing of opposites set amidst the backdrop of danger. The story also had plenty of heart, as the two learned to open their hearts up to one another.
I’d definitely recommend fans of romantic suspense check out Griffin’s Tracers series, if you haven’t already!
There is nothing like walking into one of those old bookstores and finding a new author. I’ll be reading the rest of her books. I ordered five already. This book took me on a fast ride. It has internet predators, a cyber investigation unit, and murder. What else can you possibly need?
4 Stars
I was either edge of my seat or breathless (and blushing a bit ). Loved the characters and the back and forth between them was funny at times or just intense. Totally didn’t see THAT killer coming at all and was just gobsmacked at the reveal. Laura Griffin is a author who gives her readers exactly what they want .
I love this book. Kept me guessing until the end. But I knew there was something about Hall I didn’t trust. He rubbed me the wrong way. I love how Laney didn’t listen to Reed. I know she was helping him but she almost got herself killed several times. I can’t wait to read more of Laura’s books!
You can’t go wrong reading any of Laura Griffin books!
This series is still just as fresh and thrilling as the first book was. I love a good forensics book and this series never disappoints.
In each of the books we’ve gotten to see a different aspect of how forensics is used to solve murders or crimes from the experts at the Delphi Center. For a latest group of murders the Cyber team is called upon to try and find the killer. The way this authors writes I was riveted from beginning to end with the story. Both the leads command your attention and their chemistry off the charts.
