Sometimes being bad feels oh-so good… woman he left behind.
January might be as beautiful and fierce
as ever now that she
runs a house full of firefighters
but Finn’s ghosts belong in the past.
As soon as he’s done at the cemetery,
he’s on the first flight out of Remington.
For good.
Even if he does get stuck in town
with January tempting him
at every turn.
But Finn’s ghosts won’t let go so easily.
Will he and January learn
to build new trust
Or will their past keep them
from falling in deep…
One dirty-talking, bad-boy hero + his former BFF who’s always wanted more + a touch of enemies-to-lovers, a firehouse fundraiser to warm your heart, and a whole lot of sexytimes to warm the rest of you = this standalone novella that ends in a sweet and steamy HEA.

This book was just full of non-stop action with events constantly going on. Really well written and I look forward to reading more.
What a perfect combination! Firefighters and Hockey Players! Specifically January, the administrative side of a fire house, and her childhood friend, Finnegan, a winning hockey player! And I’m a sucker for second chances! This story has all the feels! Very well written! An awesome addition to Station Seventeen Series!
Deep Check is a novella in the Station Seventeen series by Kimberly Kincaid. January Sinclair is the station manager for Station Seventeen, and Finnegan Donnelly left her heartbroken years ago when he kissed her and then left town to pursue his dream of playing professional hockey. Back in town for a couple days to make peace with a mutual friend, Finn didn’t plan on seeing anyone else. But when they run into each other by chance, sparks definitely fly.
Ms Kincaid does a terrific job with this second-chance story, and January and Finn discover how precious friends and family truly are in the scheme of life. A very satisfying read.
Loved this story! Both the lead characters were extremely likeable and interesting and the sex scenes *fans self* steamy and sexy and hot. Right up my alley. Loved the chemistry between January and Finn, and the general writing style. So engaging and moving. I rarely get teary in books but there were a couple of occasions where my emotions ran raw. Look forward to reading more in the series!
Deep Check is book #1.5 in the Station Seventeen series by Kimberly Kincaid. I have not read any of the other books in this series and was able to read this with no problem. But it definitely left me wanting to go back and read the rest of the other books. I just fell in love with these characters.
Finnegan (Finn) Donnelly is twenty-five years old, and is a professional hockey player for New Orleans Cajun Rage. He has just accomplished his dream, they won the cup. But it was also the dream of one of his best friends from home, the best friend that he had an argument with seven years ago and walked away from. Now his friend is dead and all Finn wants to do with the cup is take it home to Remington and go to his friend’s grave. After that he hopes to get the closure he never had. Then he is leaving town for good. Except that there is one other person he left behind in Remington.
January Sinclair is the administrator for Station Seventeen’s firehouse. It’s a job that keeps her more than busy but on top of that, she has accepted the position of handling this year’s fundraiser event. It’s a very important event to raise money for safer equipment for their firefighters. She hasn’t seen or heard from Finn in seven years so she was more than shocked when she came face to face with him. Even though she wants to stay angry with him for walking away all those years ago, the same attraction she felt when they were kids is still there as strong as ever. Only they aren’t kids any more.
Finn ends up needing to stay in Remington for longer than he expected so he and January spend time together. The feelings they both kept hidden before are stronger than ever and they don’t hesitate to enjoy the time they have together. Finn agrees to help January with her fundraiser and she helps Finn with his project. As the weeks pass, their connection becomes stronger. They both know, though, that Finn will have to leave when their time is up. His job is in New Orleans. And January’s home and life is in Remington.
This was short but oh so good. I just fell in love with these two. Sometimes it happens that for no apparent reason, two characters just grab your heart and they did. I loved watching them finally let the ghosts of their past go. But it’s their future that still hangs in the balance. This was steamy and sweet and I loved every page of it.
Kimberly is one of my favorite authors and I have enjoyed every book of hers that I’ve read. I don’t know why I never started on this series but this book has me wanting more of Station Seventeen.
Deep Check is the story of Finn Donnelly and January Sinclair, and is a part of the Station Seventeen series. It can be read as a stand alone, but the entire series is fantastic.
This second chance at love is a quick read that is not short in details!!
Finnegan was best friends with January and Asher, but that was before he pursued his hockey career. Coming back to the town of Remington, to apologize to Asher at his grave, was supposed to help put the past behind him. Then he realizes he owes January an apology too and one thing leads to another. Finn has a big decision to make—stay in Remington or shatter his dream and pursue an offer that takes him away from the town and the girl—the girl who Asher had longed for but he had kissed the night everything changed.
enjoyed reading
It was a nice story and it was enjoyable, it just didn’t leave much of a lasting impression. I think because the hero was a bit immature. It seems like he was old enough to grow up a little.
I hate it when young people don’t pursue the person they love because of loyalty to a friend. I don’t understand why in 7 years he didn’t know that Asher never got the girl and he should come back and get her.
But, I did really like this story. The steam sex is well written… but too repetitive so I started skimming it.
It is an interesting story with some things brought up and moved quickly to completion phase.
I’ll read more in this series by this author.
This made me laugh and cry. Finn returned to his home town after 7 years to sell his dad’s house. He had only came back once for his friend’s funeral. Him, Asher and Finn had been best friends through school and had had a falling out and Finn left town. He was was fulfilling a life long dream of playing professional hockey in New Orleans. He just help the Rages win the coveted CUP!! Each player gets the CUP for one day and Finn wanted to bring it back to Remington to take it to his friend Asher’s grave to show him he had accomplished his dream that Asher always had faith in Finn he could do, and to apologize to his friend and tell him how sorry he was they had a terrible fight and Finn left and didn’t come back. Finn also went to find January to apologize to her for leaving and not coming back. He talked her into to going to dinner with him. They started spending time together while they worked on fixing his dad’s house so he could sell it. A great standalone with an HEA!
A hockey star and an old love find each other again. I enjoyed the story and the characters.
January and Finn were best friends in high school along with their friend, Asher. When January took a chance and kissed Finn, Asher started a fight with Finn. Because Finn knows that Asher had a crush on January, he lies and says that the kiss didn’t mean anything. He left the next day to play professional hockey and hasn’t been back for seven years. Now he’s won the Stanley Cup, he takes it to Asher’s grave (he died in the line of duty as a fireman) to thank him for pushing him into hockey. When January and Finn see each other, the sparks are still there. Will they be able to let past hurts go? This novella was a great addition to the Station Seventeen series.
This is a Station Seventeen Novella
This is the story of Finn & January. This book starts out different than others. I liked that. There is so much anger in the male character, but with good reason. The female character meets him under the most unusual circumstances. Each of the paths they’ve chosen were for their own particular reason. This is a heat breaking story with a lot of sadness in it. The emotions are high, but then become tame. It is well written. I cannot wait for who will be written about next.
When Finn Donnelly’s Ragin’ Cajuns win the championship, there’s only one person he’s interested in sharing the championship cup with. In high school, Asher and January were his best friends and Asher was the one guy who always believed Finn would one day add his name to the Cup. Now that he has, it’s only natural that he share it with Ash. Problem is that Ash died in a fire, and Finn has a lot of unfinished business, so he takes the Cup home and to the cemetery to have the talk and make the apologies he should have said years ago.
If you’re a hockey fan, Finn’s story can’t help but tug at your heart strings. Most of us remember that kid with a rough home life who loved the game but who nobody ever really thought would make it big and Kimberly Kincaid expertly captures all the insecurities and regrets and vulnerability in a story about going home.
If you’re a follower of Kincaid’s fire hall stories, you’ll recognize some of the characters – and of course, this one will be a “must read” so you can find out what’s going on over at Station Seventeen and experience the camaraderie, the hijinks and the protectiveness they feel for one of their own that these First Responders all share.
If you’re a contemporary romance fan, you’ll love Finn’s rekindled relationship with his Calendar girl. It’s just the kind of smexy romance story you’ve come to expect of you’re a fan of this writer.
Bottom line, if you read, you need to read this one. A thoroughly enjoyable read for a spring afternoon or a summer beach chair when you’re lamenting hockey’s off season.
This was a gripping feel good story. Funny and sexy. Complex characters. Look forward to reading more of this series. Highly recommend.
Second chance romance at its best
I read this novella as part of the Hot Hockey Anthology and absolutely loved it. It was my first experience with this author but made me immediately go out and one-click the rest of her books!
Second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes and Ms. Kincaid did a wonderful job with Finn & January’s love story!!!
This is the story of Finnegan and January, or calendar girl as he calls her. Finn has worked hard to get to the top of the hockey world and once his team wins the cup, he gets to spend the day with it. The only place he wants to go is his home town of Remington and his friend Asher. Thing is, Asher passed away five years ago and Finn can only bring it to his graveside. Once back home, Finn realizes that he also has to apologize to his other best friend, January, for running out on her after she kissed him all those years ago. Great story.
Finn’s hockey team has won the Stanley Cup and he brings it to the person who has always believed he would win it one day. Which is why Finn is back in Remington. Back to the place he can’t wait to leave. Back to the place that brings him painful memories of losing his two best friends.
January Sinclair is busy running the firehouse and trying to put together the annual fundraiser. With Finn back in town she doesn’t want to reminisce about the past. About the unforgettable kiss that Finn brushed off. Finn feels he needs to have closure with all things tied to Remington before he leaves for good. And that means dealing with the fallout between him and January.
This was a great novella that gives Finn a second chance at fixing his past mistakes. Looking forward to reading the rest of the guys at Station Seventeen!
I’ve never been so happy to win an ARC to review. This book was so freaking amazing..right from the start when Finn says a prayer up to Ash during the final minutes of the playoff game. It was so touching that he takes the cup home to Ash’s grave. I love his nickname for January (Calendar Girl) AWWW. I really enjoyed the dirty talk, the steam those 2 create…wow. I enjoyed the chemistry between Finn and January. I love when there is history and chemistry from the start. And when she hears him talking to his agent…I was so sad for her. But Kimberly gives me he HEA I love in books. I really need to go and read Kellan and Isabella’s story now. This book has such a great story line and flows from the beginning to the end! Great story!!!!
