Doc Ford has long lived a double life. But in this electrifying New York Times bestselling novel, it may finally have caught up to him… On a moonless night on Sanibel Island, Florida, marine biologist Marion “Doc” Ford carefully watches a video of a hooded man executing three hostages. The man is an American working with ISIS, and in the next few days, it’ll be Ford’s job, as part of his … Ford’s job, as part of his shadowy second life, to make sure the man never kills anybody else again.
But a lot can go wrong in a few days, and Ford has no way of knowing that not only will the operation prove to be a lot more complicated than he has anticipated, but that he’ll end up bringing those complications back with him to the small community of boaters, guides, lovers, and friends in Dinkin’s Bay, where he’s long made his home.
Someone has taken Ford’s actions very personally, and now no one there is safe—least of all, Ford himself.

Not his best Doc story.
I’ve read most of his other Doc Ford books, but this one was a disappointment. A super villain, Ford turns nasty, amazing coincidences, and so on.
I expected more marine biology. This was my first venture into this series so I did not know it was going to be primarily a rather violent spy/military adventure tale.
If you enjoy John D. MacDonald you should enjoy the books in this series. Similar in location and style, but more of a modern timeline. Truly an enjoyable read.
Loved the depth of the characters and quickly became attached to most and couldn’t wait to read more of them.
A book that’s difficult to put down and one that keeps you enthralled by the fast paced action.
Only downside: you’ll find yourself making a mess of your budget buying each and every book in the series!
This is one more entertaining Randy Wayne White book. Several years ago, I happened to meet this author while visiting Sanibel Island. Since then, I have read five of his novels and enjoyed every one of them. I imagine I’ll ready a bunch more!
Just find his books an en.joyable, quick read
Randy White continues to amaze with his Doc series. Love these books and the juxtaposition of the characters it it!
Didn’t even finish it.
Fans of Doc Ford will not be disappointed!
I believe I’ve read all of the Doc Ford books and some of them twice. Obviously, I enjoy them.
Good storyline
Doc Ford strikes again. Randy Wayne White is at the top of his game
Good portrait of Southwest Florida
I have always liked his books, I know some of Sanibel so like to pretend, I know where the story takes me to. This time I was a bit confused keeping up with Julian and story.
Read tge whole series, start at book one
Typical Randy White. An easy read but the ending was a bit sudden.
What was White doing when he wrote this? Bush league compared to the old stuff. VERY fragmented.
The author is back in track as to writing excellent mystery style books…his characters are excellent and his twists in story line are great. Don’t judge him on Cuba as all his previous books were fantastic as was this one!
Boring never went anywhere, maybe I did’nt give it chance but after 50 pages I gave up
Pretty good writer
