I read this as part of an anthology called Recipe for Danger put out by Amazon, I’ve read other books by this author and really enjoyed the characters and their interplay with each other. Unfortunately Declan fell a little flat for me. Too much going on that took too long to tie up? I’m not sure. Perhaps not enough character development. The entire Paraguay thing seemed like a non sequitor. I expected the conflict to arise from the work there in a far far different way than it did. And the ending and who it involved needed more fleshing out.
If you like action and betrayals this book is for you. Ex military and FBI don’t mix. After a disastrous mission the men got out and started a company called the Alliance. Pretty good story with a HEA.
This book. omgoodness, THIS BOOK.
From the heart-wrenching beginning to the beauty-filled ending, Declan filled my reader’s heart and made me smile and swoon and simply *feel*. It took me a second to get into the swing of a full male first person narrative, but once I did, omgoodness did I love experiencing the story through Declan’s head. I think that made the story all that more easy to invest in and be hooked tight from beginning to end.
Declan is the kind of alpha hero I love — protective, determined, strong, bossy, but with a deeper soft-spot that keeps him real. Also, I just couldn’t stop swoonin’ over his love and care for children. I really identified with the empathy Declan displayed throughout the entire book.
Allie is the kind of heroine I also adore, soft, sweet, and strong all wrapped up together in a vulnerable and tough package. She has a beauty and light from deep down that couldn’t be smothered. There was something about her that really connected to me too – and then getting to see Allie through Declan’s eyes….
I couldn’t get enough of seeing the brotherhood and deep bond of Declan’s teammates and other friends, and seeing how their relationship with each other was rock solid (or growing to that). Some of the boy convos made me giggle, thinking they’re just as bad as girls sometimes with their gabbing.
Throw in some deeper drama and some unexpected twists, and this was one un-put-down-able story. I can’t wait to get more in this series!
Fantastic start to a new series. We meet Declan and his team in Paraguay helping victims of flooding. The team is the Shadow Alliance, ex military men doing good in the world. Allison arrives with the Red Cross only she is FBI, they are looking for the same criminal. Declan could come across as somewhat controlling, needing to know where everyone is and bugging their phones. But his past history will show that he cares for his men like family.
Plenty of action, romance, drama and heart stopping moments. I loved it and look forward to more in this series.
Declan is such a wonderful leader!
Declan is on a mission to help as much as he can in as many places as he’s needed, along with his team, as atonement for a military assignment that went horribly wrong. He’s also hunting – and soon to be hunted by – the man responsible for betraying his team and causing the horrific mistake. As this story opens, he and his team are helping flood victims in Paraguay.
There, he’s approached by an FBI agent asking questions about that failed mission and the man at fault. Allison Davies has her own reasons for hunting the same man, but she also recognizes the need right in front of her and pitches right in to help wherever she can.
The investigation continues as they return to the States. Declan is keeping Allie by his side, and as they get to know each other their soul-deep attraction becomes a solid relationship. I loved that Declan was over-the-top protective and controlling, but for all the right reasons, and I absolutely loved that Allie saw right through him to recognize what his true motives were.
There’s quite a lot of action in this story, both from the natural disaster in the first part of the book and from the pursuit and take-down of the villains. It’s all done with a solid emphasis on good vs. evil, and written so vividly that the reader feels every tense moment, every emotion as the characters do.
The relationship Dec has with his teammates is brilliantly written, hilarious at times, and always heartwarming. I hope the author writes more about these wonderful characters and their interactions. There’s so much heart in this book; it was a real joy to read. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is book one of the new Shadow Alliance series written by Caitlyn O”Leary. This story focuses on Declan and Allison. Declan is one of the founders of the Shadow Alliance and Allison works for the FBI. A cold case brings these two together and requires them to have to work together.
Declan is a control freak and having to control that while working with Allison being she is a very capable woman. One of biggest part of this book that I really liked was that Allison was shown to be a very strong woman but she was also vulnerable. She was written in a way that shows you can be strong and also have feelings.
I really liked Declan in the book, there was times he was a little controlling, but luckily he is surrounded by people who will call him on it. They understand his need up to a point but when he was being ridiculous they put a stop to it. I also really like the relationship Declan has with Anna. There just is something about this big strong man who seems to melt around a little girl.
I loved this book and I would recommend it.
