This book is technically book one in a brand new Russian/Italian mafia series that takes place in the Eagle Elite world… this is Andrei Petrov’s story. If you’re an Eagle Elite fan, this is the continuation of the series with a brand new spinoff into the Russian world, so no worries all your fave guys are still there, we’re just expanding the family a bit!

This book is incredible. The Eagle Elite series that Rachel created is one of my top favourites and is possibly the best mafia series I have ever read. I have thoroughly enjoyed this author’s words since I found my love of reading back in 2012 and when Debase was announced as being the first book in a new mafia spin off series I was ecstatic. I am however gutted that Debase is also classed as the final book in the mentioned Eagle Elite series.
I don’t believe you will need to have read Eagle Elite to enjoy Debase, but if you haven’t then I suspect you will soon correct this as I’m certain that by the end of the book, the author will have tempted you to go back to the very beginning and learn everything about the mafia families that you have met.
This story focuses on the lives of Andrei Petrov and Alice De Lange. Two people born into families and bloodlines that neither would have chosen, and both have suffered for years at the hands of those who should have been protecting them. This book is dark. There will be scenes that will make your toes curl but killing and torture is a part of mafia life and I thought those scenes were written perfectly and how it should be.
Andrei believes himself to be a monster and to witness how he sees himself and what he goes through every day… it broke my heart actually. The struggle he has with himself over what he wants and what he believes he is worthy of is sorrowful. Alice has a past that no girl should have had to experience and although I initially saw her as only sweet and innocent, I soon discovered she has guts and a strength that had me rooting for her to find her place in life and find happiness too.
If you have read the Eagle Elite series you will already have witnessed interactions within the mafia families and I have to say there are moments of pure genius writing, where in the most tense of situations I was laughing out loud. Let me just mention family dinners and text messages and when you’ve finished reading the book you will totally understand and appreciate what I am referring to.
This story will have you hooked from the very first chapter. It is gritty and intense but there are also many moments of love and passion. The connection between Andrei and Alice is amazing and there were so many twists and turns in the story that to be honest I didn’t have a clue which way the story would unfold… which I loved. These mafia men are ruthless and have no second thoughts about ending life but when they find their soulmate they love with everything and this is why I adore these characters so much.
Debase is an absolute must read. This book will definitely be one of my top reads of 2019.
Excellent and Outstanding piece of work by the incomparable Rachel Van Dyken. This book gives you the 11th book in the incredible Eagle Elite Series and gives voice and story to Andrei Petrov. Showing his broken and dark side. Alice DeLange was traded by her brother but little did she know what life would have in store for her. Andrei and Alice’s story is dark and light but the journey is incredible.
The Mafia is back with a vengeance!!!! Lana~ White Hot Reads
I couldn’t put this book down and it was awesome. You finally get to learn about Andrei and what makes him tick. You learn about Alice as well. I don’t want to spoil anything as there is a lot to be told but all Italians are there and it was awesome to go back to their world. Blood In No Out!!!
O My WORD!!!!! <———- Only way I can start this review lol. Debase takes place in the Mafia world created by non other than the brilliant Rachel van Dyken. We’ve met Andrei in previous books but here you see what he is all about. He is a Russian leader with some very “questionable morals” so you would think. With trying to gain control in a world he is not happy with he comes across an Italian beauty named Alice. Something about Alice has him second guessing his thoughts on life. The more she wiggles her way into his life we start to see him change his plans and questioning his loyalties. However blood must Always be spilled no matter who’s body it comes from. Book 11 will not disappoint the Mafia followers one bit. The anticipation of what will come next is a running theme in this series and Debase follows through every step of the way. You still get your comical back and forth banter between the guys but your heart will still pound out of your chest at times. With this book we start to see more of a look into the Russian side of the mafia, but for some reason the Italians don’t like to lose their spot light. I started this series when book 1 was released and have seen the progression of each book just get better and better. I will forever claim Eagle Elite as my all time favorite series. Of course like every fan I have my favorite characters and with that my favorite books. However each book and character has a place in my heart. I will say at first I didn’t know if I even wanted to dive in to this book. The last Elite book had me wondering if Andrei was just a little too much for me. However when you get an ARC for an EE book you read it and you enjoy the heck out of it. I loved this book like any other one in the series, at this point I can’t even rank them any more. BUT…there was only one thing that kind of frustrated me about Alice. After everything they both went through she shouldn’t have let what happens blow over so easily. I know rules are rules in the mafia but geez girl. I would have been pissed instead of buddy buddy with everyone right away after all that. Alice could have given the guys a little more of a hard time towards the end. I’m sure they could take it 😉 I’m still in a Debase hangover so I’ll end this here. Debase is a must read if you like mafia, love, and comedy. Dont sleep on this series. You will regret it if you do.
To say Debase is perfect would be a disservice but it’s the closest word to describe it. Debase is a perfect mix of old & new. A perfect mix of dark & light. A perfect mix of sweet & dangerous. A perfect example of sacrifice & redemption. A perfect mix of mafia & romance. Debase is a perfect ending to a new beginning!
Just a side note—listen to “Play with Fire” by Sam Tinnesz from Rachel’s Spotify playlist it’s the perfect song for Andrei;)
Blood In, No Out!
It’s true: Once this series by the fabulous Rachel Van Dyken has sucked you in you can’t get enough, desperately waiting for another fix of this addicting mafia series.
DEBASE is the first book in the spin-off from her Eagle Elite Series.
It is like a crossover to the amazing Eagle Elite series and it starts with a *Boom* into this new side of mafia.
Andrei Petrov is the new, young boss of the Petrov family, the Russian side of mafia in Chicago. Dealing with the mess his father and his legacy left him he is convinced not to be able to have any feelings, not capable of human touch. Simply to be the evil itself.
That is at least until Alice De Lange walks, or better said is pushed, into his life.
She is the enemy and supposed to be a number, just another girl, no connection…no feelings.
But this plan turns out different once Andrei realizes that his heart is not done beating for just itself.
As everything in Rachel’s mafia series this is again a hard drive that doesn’t let you loose until you turn the last page.
And yes, all those characters we love so much from previous books make an (not just unsurprising) appearance. Plus, the perfect extra (and I dare say with one of Rachel’s signature moves): Group texting with the guys! (EE fans know what I’m talking about … newbies, just wait for it … wait for it … yes you can laugh now :-D)
A little fair warning though: The story line deals with some pretty heavy topics in regards of violence (it’s a mafia story after all) which may not be the taste for everyone. (If that is the case for you, don’t give up on Rachel yet and grab one of her fabulous rom-com books, completely free of anything violent, well beside the occasional clumsy accident, and hilarious and funny as could be).
Finally, for all already addicted EE and RVD fans, but also for everyone else, I can only say: Go grab your copy! You won’t regret it!
First let me start off by saying, if you haven’t read any of the Eagle Elite books yet than what are you doing and what rock have you been living under?! Debase is a great place to start, and I promise you will be hooked. RVD has created this mafia world so perfectly that I feel as though I am a part of the family. I have never been so invested in a series in my life. It’s truly magical. You need these books in your life- seriously!
So Chase is on a De Lange (one of the five families of the Cosa Nostra) killing spree- you’ll have to read the books to find out why! And Alice just so happens to be a De Lange… who Andrei falls in love with.. you can see where this is going. He decides he’s going to hide her in plain sight, and that works (or maybe it doesn’t) for a little while but this is the mafia we’re dealing with here, and nothing stays hidden from these men for long.
“They knew a De Lange was here.
They didn’t know it was her.
I’d give them someone else.
I’d lie.”
Theres a crazy twist to the story as well, which I did not see coming and that makes things a taaaaad bit more interesting as well! You definitely will be kept on your toes while you read about how it all unfolds.
I love how the characters from the other stories are all included so the whole EE series feels extremely well rounded and we keep getting glimpses of our favorites (Nixon!) without taking away from the main characters. Which brings me to Andrei..
“He was something monstrous.
And something beautiful.
All wrapped up in one.”
Yeah… that about sums him up. I loved going along with him through this journey of self acceptance. He is not the same man from the beginning to the end and the change is amazing. I love his banter with the others, and I especially love his possessiveness over Alice. I fell in love with him so fast, despite all his darkness. He’d probably kill me for saying this, but he’s got such a genuine heart and he gives his all to those he loves.
Alice is amazing. She has the kind of fight and strength that I only wish I had. Seriously, she has balls of steal and she is willing to lay everything on the line to be with the man she loves.
“The fierceness of her gaze would
feed me for days, the way she stiffened
beneath my touch, ready to bite my fingers off.
Her fight.
It was her fight, wasn’t it?
That and the way she lay on her bed like a f*cking
queen taking court, waiting for her loyal subjects
to serve her.
She was magnificent, and she didn’t even know it.”
I didn’t know how anything would ever compare to Eulogy, but this does. Rachel, you killed it! I didn’t want the book to end, I could seriously keep reading about them forever. I cannot wait for the next one in the series!
Wow what a fantastic read from the very talented RVD. This book was amazing but I don’t want to write a review that will spoil this story for you because I believe you need to read this book with no expectations to get the best from it. Yes this story deals with some hard issues but it’s also a love story and it’s written beautifully and compassionately. A monster turns into a man when he finds the love of his life, when the woman becomes his lover and not just a number…….
Rachel Van Dyken must surely be the queen of Mafia stories and Debase is certainly up amongst the top mafia books I have read and I’m sure you will feel the same once you meet Andrei Petrvo from the Petrvo Dynasty and Alice De Lange. Great read with all the feels you want and expect in a 5* book
If you like mafia stories you need to read this one! Rachel Van Dyken has written an action-packed story full of twists and turns. You won’t want to put it down because you don’t know where it’s going to end ( trust me I was up til 3 am). There is heartbreak and darkness but it’s written so beautifully that this was one of my very favorite of the series! It is a stand alone but I highly recommend you check out the entire Eagle Elite Series!!
This book people. THIS BOOK. I can’t even.
“I’d fallen for the beast. I’d fallen for the darkness. Preferred it to the light. I’d fallen for the devil himself.”
You know what sucks sometimes? Adulting. It has kept me from this book when it hit my kindle. I have been anticipating this book since I knew it was about Andrei. The man weaved his way into my heart the minute I met him, and he hasn’t left yet. Second, only to Chase, he is one of my favorites from the EE series.
“The first time in a decade. I showed my tell. To a woman whose name I refused to know. To a woman, I would sell. To a woman who was already dead. She didn’t see it, how could she? But I felt it, spread like a cold dread throughout my body. For one brief second, hardly noticeable to the human eye, I let the darkness fall. And I, Andrei Petrov. Hoped.”
The dynamic between Andrei and the rest of the bosses was probably my favorite thing about this book. He had this way with them that made his relationship with them seamless. I especially love his relationship with Phoenix was my favorite though. Two men who had the world against them rising up and taking their rightful place in this world – there’s a reason I love them. Chase still holds my heart though. The thing he does at the end, that thing that reminded me why he is my favorite, I fell even more then. Oh and I am so happy to see Nikolai in this book, I love that guy.
“You can kiss me now.”
“I wasn’t waiting for permission,” I growled.
“Then what were you waiting for?”
“My heart stopped beating; I was waiting for it to catch up.”
Alice gained so much of my respect throughout this book. She was so strong, so brave, and the Queen that Andrei needs at his side. The rest of the wives had the same kind of strength that Alice did. This is why the woman in this series are always the ones that I love the most. I love it when the heroine can stand toe to toe with the hero and is never less than. She never needs rescued and often does the rescuing herself.
“It’s a term of endearment,” I panted. “Like sweetheart, honey, my love…” She stilled. “You called me that the second day you knew me.”
“No.” I corrected. “I called you that the minute they brought you in. I just didn’t say it out loud.”
Very few series get better with each book, and very few get 5 stars for every book from me. There is only one I can name off the top of my head that has as many books as this one does and still holds my attention.
Rachel, I was worried about the book that would follow Eulogy. I still say that is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I didn’t think a book would have a fair shot after I read that one. I’m happy to say that you had me worried for nothing. This was outstanding and just flat-out amazing. You keep raising the bar and exceeding it every time.
“Monster,” I corrected. “Each and every one of them are monsters in their own right. But I’d rather sleep with the monster, hold his heart close and keep it safe, than take my chances with the man.”
Debase by Rachel Van Dyken
RVD fans are going to be thrilled with her latest release Debase. The Eagle Elite story continues but comes to an end, but it is the beginning of the Elite Bratva Brotherhood story line. Not to worry, all the hot and sexy men will still be making appearances and giving their influential support to the new arm of the cosa nostra. Debase is a spectacular book that pulls you back into the life of the Elite men and the women they love. This book is hot and filled with sexual tension that is off the charts. Buckle up, put on your bullet proof vest and be prepared for the 5-star ride that is violent, emotional, sexy story that is Debase.
Andrei Petrov is working both sides of the mafia, an FBI informant and a Russian mobster that is in bed with the Italian mob. Andrei wants to help the Italians clean up the mess the former De Lange boss, Mil De Lange, created. Alice De Lange has been traded by her brother to the Russian prostitute ring in order to stay alive. Alice sees her time in the small room a relief even if she is chained to a bed, at least there no one has touched her, unlike at home. Andrei sees the strength in Alice as he watches her on the video feed and knows that he wants to keep her. Andrei and Alice both have secrets and fears and Andrei must protect Alice even if it’s from herself. Alice would rather face being Debased by Andrei then the alternative…torture and death at the hands of the Elite.
4.5 stars–DEBASE is the first instalment in Rachel Van Dyken’s contemporary, adult ELITE BRATVA BROTHERHOOD dark and violent, mafia romance series-a spin off from the authors Eagle Elite series. This is Russian Mafia head of the Petrov family, twenty-two year old, Andrei Petrov, and twenty-one year old, Alice De Lange, whose family has been ex-communicated from the Cosa Nostra. DEBASE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous series is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the original series for back story. Several characters and couples cross over for cohesion.
WARNING: DEBASE contains scenes of graphic violence, torture, killing and abuse, as well as exploitation, corruption and sexual slavery which may not be suitable for all readers.
Told from three first person points of view (Andrei, Alice, Phoenix) DEBASE follows in the aftermath of Alice (aka #632) De Lange’s forced imprisonment when she is sold to the Petrov Dynasty in a back room deal made between the two warring families of the Cosa Nostra. Current head of the Petrov family, Andrei Petrov struggles with his place, his direction, and the memories from the past, a past that has shaped a violent, uncaring and tormented man. Unaware of all of his predecessor’s back room deals, Andrei will have to face the reality of the Petrov family heritage, a heritage he battles with every waking moment. Discovering one of the new ‘slaves’ is none other than a member of the ex-communicated De Lange family Andrei makes it his mission to break the woman with whom he will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Andrei and Alice, and the fall-out as sins of the family, and of the past, force the painful and heart breaking reality that reparation for a debt must be paid in blood.
Alice De Lange is an innocent pawn in a war that will see many lives lost, and the possibility of the loss of her own. Falling for her captor means issues of trust continue to grow when sins of the past are brought to the forefront of family negotiations. A kill order for all De Lange family members places our heroine in the direct line of fire. Andrei Petrov is both dangerous and dark; without emotion, and without the ability to feel love or be loved. Execution and torture are his only mode of expression, something taught to Andrei at an early age.
The relationship between Alice and Andrei begins as master and slave; warden and prisoner; enemies up close and personal. In order to save Alice, Andrei must claim the woman as his own, a claim that threatens the stability of the Petrov Dynasty. The $ex scenes are limited, passionate and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including many from the author’s original Eagle Elite series focusing on ruthless members of several Mafia families. As the Russians and Italians work together against a common enemy, many more secrets are revealed that could destroy them all. The author adds a guide to the families, their members both living and gone.
DEBASE is a story of family, blood, cruelty and love; of lies and lessons; of betrayal and revenge. The premise is dark, gritty and raw; the characters are dark, dangerous, and deceptive; the romance is tragic and heart breaking. DEBASE is a dramatic, intense and emotional story of hate, vengeance and hope.
Well, if that’s not a Prologue that will have you hooked, then one does not exist!! No one writes mafia romance like Rachel Van Dyken, and I do believe she’s kicked it up a notch with this new Eagle Elite spin off series! Holy hell, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to handle this story, at one point I was terrified to turn the page, but how could I not…had to know how this was going to play out!!
Andrei, raised by a monster to be nothing more than a monster himself. Boss to the Petrov Russian Crime Family and an associate to the Italian Mafia families. His life is shrouded in darkness. Alice, a member of the hated De Lange family, a family on the run who would were to be ended. She was a prisoner in her own home until she was taken by the monster. I wasn’t sure who had the worst past, the worst upbringing, or the worst childhood…so different, but in some ways, the same.
Alice became girl six thirty-two, nothing but a number. The monster in Andrei didn’t get personal, didn’t learn their names, didn’t let anyone in…love was a lie. But she didn’t stay just a number. She became personal. This book is off the charts intense, violent, suspenseful, seductive, and sexy.
How a book can be disturbing and beautiful at the same time is because of this author! I don’t know whether I should admire or fear Rachel Van Dyken’s mind!!
Where do I even begin……
The Mafia….suspense….drama….bloodshed…you know, the usual but what really threw me for a loop was the way Andrei was with Alice!
The comradery or not of the mafia families, the witty banter, I laughed more than a few times and then my heart was thumping so hard, I wondered what on earth would happen!
The behind closed doors of what goes on is somewhat difficult to read about but when you understand why, it all makes so much sense!
The author has written this story perfectly and I absolutely love living through Andrei’s eyes!
Surprises are abound, intense moments and a whole lot of suspense which is what makes Debase the best mafia read this year! I really don’t know what to do with my life now. Really!!!
I was given an advanced copyfor an honest review.
Andrei Petrov: He is ruthless,he is the the final heir of his family. He plays the sexy playboy, for the world to see, but in reality he hates to be touched and touching other people.
Alice DeLange. She is from the most hated family in the Mob. Hor own brother has sexually abused her and her father, instead of protecting her, trades her to the Russians for his own freedom.
These two tourtered souls can’t seem to stay away from eachother. Andrei is instantly drawn to her, and will lie to keep her safe.
This is the last book is the Eagle Elite Series, but the beginning of a new series involving the Bravta.
It is a story about forgetting everything I thought I previously knew about Andrei. It’s a story about when you find the right person to let them see the real person inside, despite how vulnerable you feel.
It’s a story about trust and redemption and love.
There are a few clues thrown in about what the upcoming stories will most likely be.
This was a satisfying story.
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
As a lover of Rachel Van Dyken’s Eagle Elite series, I could not wait to get my hands on this book! While Debase is the first book in the Elite Bratva Brotherhood series, all of our favorites from the EE series are in this book as well. Eagle Elite is hands down my favorite mafia series, so I was so happy to be back with this group.
Andrei Petrov is the boss of the Petrov dynasty. He has demons that run so deep that you can’t help but feel for him. He seems to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. He is dark, he’s intense and he’s a ruthless killer. He gets off on the ways that he can bring pain to the people he is dealing with. While he shows the world toughness, the reality is that is a facade; he is truly broken and beaten down from things he was exposed to as a child. Things that no child should ever be witness to. He truly believes he is evil because that was what his father was and that was what he witnessed as a vulnerable child.
Alice De Lange is a woman who has been broken by her own families actions and now is being held captive and she couldn’t be happier about it. Yes, you read that right. She’s thrilled that she’s not in the hands of her family any longer who were doing unthinkable things to her. Even if things aren’t rosy in captivity, she knows that there is a chance life will be better now than it was. Now that she is at Andrei’s club, Alice is known at number six-thirty-two. She doesn’t have a name any longer, just a number.
When Andrei and Alice come together, you can tell immediately there is a connection. Will these two end up being exactly what the other needs or will the truths and secrets that are uncovered put them in even more danger?
I can’t get enough of RVD’s EE books. There is something about the way she writes mafia that just draws you in from the very beginning. I felt every emotion reading this book. I laughed, I cried, I hurt, I raged and to me, that’s when you know you have something great. Another thing I absolutely loved about this book was that we got the POV of Phoenix as well. It helped to give us insight to things as the story moved along.
I’m so happy to have been back with all of the EE crew and I’m looking forward to whatever Rachel has planned for us next!
This book is an great end to eagle elite and awesome start to the new series elite of the Bratva Brotherhood . Andrei and Alice ‘s story has laughter, heartbreak, love, hate and Mafia twist that I did not see coming. This book like the others will take you on a journey into the mafia life and hold on for the ride. Rachel Van Dyken does not disappoint with this book . A must read and absolutely love getting the glimpses into the mafia men family updates.
Debase by Rachel Van Dyken
Debase is the last book of the Eagle Elite series but fear not! It is also the first book in the Elite Bratva Brotherhood which means that we still get all sorts of EE yumminess (ie Tex) sprinkled throughout.
I always request RvD’s books to read and review (particularly this series) but when it comes time to actually write said reviews, I’m at a loss. I don’t like to give too much away because these books need to be experienced and my reviews never do them any justice. Nonetheless, here we are and here’s my review.
We’ve seen enough of Andrei in the previous books to know he’s ruthless and dark dark dark as they come, no thanks to his father (who, if he wasn’t dead already, I’d be requesting a hit on). Yes, he’s dark but deliciously so. Against his will and even with the best of intentions, he falls for Alice who sees the the light in his darkness. How anyone can see light and goodness in another person given what she’s gone through is beyond me but Alice manages to. Andrei and Alice and their background stories absolutely broke my heart and I’m thankful for the humor interspersed throughout this book that broke up the intensity and lightened the heaviness.
Debase is an amazing start to a new series and if you’re new to The Family, you won’t be lost at all. I don’t normally read anything even remotely dark or mafia-ish, much preferring my lighter and fluffier reads, but this series is one I can’t help but read. Why? I hear you ask. Because Family first. Blood In. No Out.
*I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.
**Reviewed by Melinda for Joandisalovebooks Blog.
it was amazing
Rachel’s Mafia is truly the best.
They all hated each other. Until they formed an alliance and found to bring down the enemy they needed to work together. So they learned to tolerate each other. Then in walks Alice. She was suppose to be just another girl. But plans always seem to go in another direction in the Mafia.
Truths are discovered. Some very bad, some unbelievable. And something should have been left alone…..I have read every single book in this series and loved them all. But Andrei is right up there with Nixon
Reading Progress
Omg where to start with this book?
IT BLEW MY MIND!!
I thought I was ready for this book, that I had been teased and waited long enough.
I hadn’t.
This book is yet another masterpiece by Rachel that needs to be read to be believed.
A & A were the perfect way to end/start a series.
So much happens in this book that not much more can be said apart from those pesky black folders strike again.
Would give it more stars if I could.
