It’s been a while since I’ve read a book by this author and this is the first I’ve read of her mafia series. Wow!
Andrei is a fantastic character; lost, commanding, sad, desperate, intense and much warmer than expected. Alice is sweet and brave. These two are combustible in anger and in passion.
The whole relationship with Chase and a Phoenix, Nixon and Tex I still don’t quite get, but I’ll sum it up to tradition, brotherhood and honor. The last few chapters were very hard to read because there’s nothing fair about it but truthfully, both Alice and Andrei made the choice to put the life of the one they love ahead of their own.
Both are so completely damage and nearly broken. Their innocence is spite of all they’ve endured; that slight shine of hope, opens hearts and ignites the spark that will ultimately consume them…healing their broken minds and hearts.
Another fantastic read to close out one series and start a new one. Absolutely loved Andrei and Alice, two tortured souls trying to navigate through a painful world. Their journey will be filled with angst and twists but so worth the ride. I can’t wait to read the next in this series. Definitely a must read!
Not as good as the other Eagle Elite books
This book is billed as the first in its series although it is related to Van Dyken’s 11 prior books in her mafia series. I have not read the previous books and I had a hard time keeping up with all the characters (who is good and who is bad). I think it would make for a better experience with the book to read those books first. If you like mafia (this is Russian mafia–Bratva) books, this is a good one. It is pretty intense and violent though. The hero doesn’t initially treat the heroine very well.
OMG WOW, I don’t even know where to start this, it’s just amazing, Debase took me for a ride I never expected and I didn’t wanted it to end. So deep, so many emotions Andrei Petrov, the devil, damn I want one. It can be read as a standalone, but Elite books characters appear somehow here. Russian Mafia book at it best level. Alice a strong woman that gives Andrei everything and anything he never expected to need. I can only give a five star but it’s now on my list of must read 2019 books.
Loved it
Every time I read something by RVD, I know my world is going to literally be turned upside down or I will be crying ugly tears. I’m happy to say it’s upside down this time….phew tear ducts needed a break
Andrei is the last Petrov and for his birthday this year, he gets more than one surprise! Alice hates her life and her family….they have literally been holding her prisoner in her own home for the last year and she has had to experience things no one should at the hands of their family!
I feel if I say more I might give some things away…so all I’m going to say is do yourselves a favour and read this story and get your hands on the other EE stories as they are just as awesome
I have been so waiting for this book but dreading it arriving too, purely because its the Final book in the Eagle Eliteand I don’t want to say goodbye to the crazy Italians I have grown to love, BUT this is also the first book in her new Elite Brava Series. so YAY!
This is Andrei Petrov’s story. He is like a chameleon, he changes to be what ever people need at that moment. This man has some serious demons to overcome, beyond the tough hardass front he puts on he is broken by what his dad put him through, he struggles with human touch. He just needs to find the right person to help him see he is nothing like his dad regardless of his dna.
What I love so much about these hot AF, Italian Mafia men is that they are all slightly crazy but it works for them. They are family no matter what goes on.
RVD has delivered her trademark twists and turns that you come to love in this series but she also mixes the darkness with wit and humour that has you fully entertained.
If you haven’t read this series then please read them from the beginning as you will want to experience and enjoy the chemistry relationships with this Eagle Elite men.
OK now I’m definitely going to move the eagle elite series up on my tbr. This is totally different from what I’ve read of Rachel’s before and I loved it.
After having just meet Rachel Van Dyken at a book signing, not really knowing who she was or what she wrote, I decided to try out her next release when I saw it! Excited for a new to me author, I went in not really knowing what to expect. Oh boy did I not know what I was getting myself into. I did recall after meeting her that she wrote, and I had seen the movie of The Matchmakers Playbook. So, I thought sweet Romance was her genre. Even based on the blurb, I was still naive to knowing the journey I would go on with these characters in Debase. But please know this was not a bad thing, by any stretch of the imagination! It was a journey you rarely get to go on in between pages now days. Some stories make you have to switch off your humanity for a bit to truly immerse yourself in them. This was one of those. Dark Romance, Yep! Romantic Suspense, you betcha! So many WTF moments throughout you don’t know what type of mind warp you just escaped, oh yes!
Debase is a Dark Romance/Romantic Suspense/WTF just happened type book. It was well written and even new to the Elite World, I still didn’t struggle with these characters and their story. It can defiantly be read as a standalone. Although now I am thrilled to go back and read all their stories having met so many of the characters from the other series.
From its intense start, following the journey of Alice is quite emotionally wrecking. She is sold by her brother to the Mafia to save his own ass, and she finds herself grateful from the escape of the prison she was living in and even thrives in her captivity. Andrei has always kept himself shut off and deprived of emotions to survive the world his father has thrown him into. When he first sees her on his monitor, he is pulled to her in a way that has never happened before. He tries to keep his distance, but as the days pass by, Andrei is drawn too her in ways he will continue fighting til the end. As he fights his inner demons that he has been in constant turmoil with since he was a boy, the heart of the monster is slowly softened.
This book is full of all the dark/bad/suspenseful things that make parts a little hard to bare for this Romance lover. But as the pages went on and the connections deepened, I was rooting for their survival and their romance! She wants to be broken, and he is just the person to do it! I can’t wait for more RVD novels of any genre. RVD can write a story that makes you second guess your own moral compass and humanity, I can’t wait to read what else she can bring out in a story!
HOLY CRAP! Rachel Van Dyken can write some seriously messed up Mafia stuff. With this book, I did not feel like I missed much by not reading all of the Eagle Elite books yet. It just sort of starts a new era of the Russian and Italians ruling of the 5 families.
Alice, what a great character she is. Hiding in plain sight. That is what is the best, only everyone already knows who she is, but being claimed by the head of the Russian mob, makes her off limits! It is what she does to said leader that makes this book SO MUCH MORE!
There are some parts that I just wanted to scream, cry and cringe. The perfect combination.
Even though this is a dark mafia story, it has so many lighthearted moments with the banter from the boys. Every time you thought that it is getting too heavy, something happens to lighten the mood a fraction. Loved Alice and Andrei’s story. Unconventional and romantic this book has all the feels and twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommend!!!
Rachel Van Dyken never disappoints, Debase is full of action, bad ass mafia kings with smart ass mouths, an unlikely love, and the intense feeling that a lot of people are going to die. I have been a fan of this series since Elite and I am so amazed at how well Rachel can still keep her readers entertained and obsess with this series after so many books and novellas. Her way of building a character’s back story and how it ties in to the Cosa Nostra famiglia, the way there are twist and turns and secrets uncovered have you losing sleep just to finish the next chapter.
My heart went out to Andrei and Alice, I believe more than any other characters in this series because their pain was one that they just wanted to go away and stop. I love that it was that piece that connected them and bonded them together. I admire Alice for the sacrifices she made to show Andrei how much she truly loved him. I am sad to hear that this is the last of the series, but happy to know that I may have a spin off to look forward to.

Rachel Van Dyken has created an edge of your seat rollercoaster of a thrill ride in Debase. Andrei is the type of man that shows no emotion, to torture and kill is more his style. No names work best for him is his type of business, that is until Alice. Sworn enemy yet someone who he must protect. After living a life of torture with her sick and twisted family, Alice is led right into the hands of the enemy. I cannot tell you as to how much I love this series and these characters. Rachel’s writing leaves you on the edge of your seat, and in true Eagle Elite style once you start reading this series it really is Blood in No out!
Alice De Lange was being abused by some of her family. So when she ends up with the Russian mafia she almost feels relieved or safe.
Andrei Petrov is a very powerful man. He manages to keep himself emotionally distant from others, until the one girl they bring in who intrigues him and he can not take his eyes off of.
Debase definitely has a darker feel to it than any other of the Eagle Elite books. It does give it a very real like, Mafia feel to it. Well what I would guess it could be like.
Amongst all the darkness and torment, there are also sexy moments, and very touching, very tender moments, along many moments that had me laughing. This book was tearing me apart, it had me crying a time or two. It had me feeling so much I actually had to put it down for a few minutes. I was sort of afraid to keep reading for fear of what was to come, but I was also so intrigued and invested I had to keep going and find out how it finished. I am so glad I finished this book all the way through. Even though it had torn me apart it did manage to put me back together and heal me. By the end my heart was so full of love and joy. I absolutely Love these guys and their wives, I feel like they are apart of me. I will definitely have a book hangover from reading Debase!! I highly highly recommend Debase!! I can not wait for more from this series!! Blood In No Out!!
This book is amazing. I have been reading Rachel’s Eagle Elite series for years now and it just continues to get better. You do not have to the rest of the series to enjoy this book but you will get to know so many of the amazing characters in this book. Andrei and Alice are one of my new favorite couples. They were both born into horrible situations and in their own ways trying to make things better. This is a book I will read again and again and again
I’ll never get enough of Rachel Van Dyken’s mafia world and the families who rule it, and while it’s a dangerous, destructive, and deadly environment to be a part of, it also epitomizes what brotherhood, fidelity, and honor are all about, illustrating the true measure of a man and what it takes to differentiate between truth and lies as well as those individuals who are working with them or against them.
Throughout the Eagle Elite series, Van Dyken has introduced readers to a bevy of alpha male mafia men, and while their personalities vary based on their life experiences, their struggles, and the roles that they’ve had as members of some of the most important Italian mafia families, at their core, they’re all about protecting their own and loving as fiercely as they hate their enemies.
And now with a spin-off series from the Eagle Elite, readers still get to interact with some of our favorite mafia heroes as well as learn about a new bloodline – the Elite Bratva Brotherhood – and let me tell you, Van Dyken doesn’t hold anything back in Debase; in fact, Andrei Petrov is perhaps even more ruthless and vindictive than any of the other characters we have already met throughout the series.
I definitely had a love/hate relationship with Andrei throughout the course of his and Alice’s story, and I would probably liken his anti-hero like demeanor and attitude to another tortured mafia man – Phoenix – and I could go on and on about my disdain and distrust, but ultimately, my complete adoration for how he rose from his past misdeeds and found his own way out of the darkness.
Andrei Petrov – I’m sure there will be a mixed bag of feelings from readers when it comes to this deliverer of destruction and devastation, but it’s essential to look at him as the sum of all of his parts and personality traits, not just the ones that are constantly at the forefront – those that illustrate him as the devil…as an irredeemable sinner lost in the darkness of his past, not seeking redemption but a way to become void of all of the pain and torturous memories that refuse to release him.
The way the heroine is introduced signifies her uniqueness and the fact that she might just be Andrei’s salvation. But that can only happen if Andrei allows it to and as far as he’s concerned, he’s too tainted…too damaged…too inundated with darkness to ever allow her the opportunity to bring him into even the smallest amount of life. Too bad that won’t stop her, and while their path is going to be one riddled with refusals, mistrust, and hot and cold interactions, what starts to build between them is more essential than either of them could have imagined.
But like all of Rachel Van Dyken’s mafia stories, there are complicated twists and suspenseful moments that readers won’t see coming nor will they figure out how everything will reach a positive conclusion when chaos and duplicity reign.
It’s difficult to move forward when people are so clearly defined by their past…its trauma, its heartache, and its oppression, but what Debase works to prove is that sometimes in the least likeliest of places and ways, memories and darkness can be overrun with a bit of hope and light.
4.5 Poison Apples
Lord I need to catch my breath from all the amazingness that is Andrei Petrov. While this is the final book in the Eagle Elite saga, Debase was an amazing standalone that was the perfect first book in this author’s new Elite Bratva Brotherhood series. I for one loveeed Andrei and his obsession and adoration for Alice De Lange.
A man shrouded in darkness forced to commit acts of violence that left him drowning in memories of blood and violence. But when he meets Alice, he feels that one thing that has eluded him his entire life – hope and light. She electrified and resuscitated his dead heart. But will he be able to save her without his own demise?
OMG the banter in the book gave me lifeee. The brotherhood and the relationships and the jokes. I burst out laughing so many times. But the way they loved their women and the sanctity of their families. Lord this book was fire!! RVD did the damn thing and then some!! The sparks, the banter, the brotherhood, the gritty darkness!! This author really wrote one of the best mafia books all time and now I want more!! I’m always late to the party but dammit I eventually show up and now seriously can’t stop screaming how amazingg it was!!! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

The tide will turn in Debase – the latest installment in the Eagle Elite series. With their time in jeopardy, the De Lange family will do whatever it takes to overcome the target Mil placed on their shoulders. Stuck in a battle that neither asked for resides Alice and Andrei. These two tortured souls will try to balance family loyalty and the sins of their fathers while uncovering their desires.
Debase might end the Eagle Elite Saga, but it is also the first in a new series titled Elite Bratva Brotherhood. Rachel Van Dyken has closed this chapter with all the bravado that one would expect from the mafia families. Andrei and Alice’s story was the perfect touch to ending one chapter and the revealing of the beginning of an exciting new saga. As with all Eagle Elite novels, expect the unexpected. Alice and Andrei will definitely take you on a ride that is truly unforgettable!!
I received an ARC in return for an honest review. I had so many feelings reading this story. First, I was so confused. I kind of wish I read the previous books for these characters, it was too much at once for me to remember who everyone was and who they were with. While I appreciated the list of key people in the story, man was I confused. That being said, this story was dark. If you can’t handle a story of physical and sexual abuse this isn’t for you. I really enjoyed watching the connection build between Andrei and Alice. Definitely a great forbidden romance!
This book is the first time reading from this author. And I enjoyed it immensely!!
I love reading mafia series!
This is the final book of the series but it can be read as a stand alone. I haven’t read the other books and I understood all of it. The author explains all the families in the beginning of the book and it helps situate the people and their role in the families.
Andrei is the top man of the Russian Mafia. The 4 families (1 Russian and 3 Italian) have called a truce. A blood oath that they would protect each other. When Andrei took over his fathers business he didn’t want to rule like he did. He would rape and torture the women while Andrei would watch him do it but never partake in it. He swore that he would never give himself to a woman the same way his father did.
So now we have a Russian virgin mobster. He is trying to figure out where the women that show up at his bar are coming from which is something his father never explained to him. Every week they come in the same exact way and are deposited at the club. Until one woman catches his eye. There is just one problem. She’s a De Lange. The very enemy of his family.
Alice is Andrei’s drug. He thinks he’s a monster while she thinks he’s her fallen angel.
This book is wonderfully written. It’s classy. It’s crass. It’s sexy. It’s all. And I cannot wait to dive in to the rest of the series from the beginning this time!!Rachel Van Dyken
