In the fall of 1849, Edgar Allan Poe disappeared. He was missing for five days, and was then found wandering near Gunnar’s Hall in Baltimore, delirious and possibly drunk, wearing strange clothes and carrying a cane. Poe died four days later in a Baltimore hospital, never having regained proper consciousness except to call out for a mysterious person by the name of “Reynolds.”Of course Poe was a … Poe was a Clocker, and I knew I would write that story someday. What I hadn’t expected was who would find Poe when he stumbled into the 21st Century.
Her name is Alexandra “Ren” Reynolds, and she has a secret too.

Enjoyed the characters and Ms. White’s phrasing and use of language.
Just a fun, interesting read with interesting characters (how could a time traveling Edgar Allen Poe not be interesting???) and an opportunity to let one’s imagination soar with what ifs.
I truly enjoyed this story. Its a unique twist on today and past history, bringing Poe into the story was very creative. The only downside is there doesn’t appear to be another story for the heroine, I’d love to see the story continue.
Amazing character development. I think every character has a growth arc.
Excellent time travel novel. Great characters.
I loved this short story so much it’s hooked me on other titles by April White. I’m now hooked. Fun chair actors ,exciting action , historic reference. All time good fun books
Always a good read, April White never disappoints!
These are some well thought out and researched book. I am on the third of the series, They are hard to put down once you start. April White tells a great story. Looking forward to many more great adventures.
I am so hooked! Love the concept, love the main protagonist (and all the other characters) LOVE the originality of this book! So well written, it was a joy to read. WONDERFUL!
Excellent. I could not put it down!
I enjoyed the book very much.
I was captivated by this story. I love reading time travel stories to see how the author will create the scenes necessary for this phenomenon. April White was extremely creative in her depiction of Edgar Allan Poe’s sojourn in the 21st Century. I loved the words flowing between ‘Ren’ and Poe especially in the beginning with his assumptions, challenging his beliefs throughout the story. For a short story it carries a big punch and is awe inspiring in its depth.
Enjoyed this step back in time. EZ read and very entertaining
Very interesting premise. I enjoyed it and wished it was longer!
Well written, original storyline. Characters make you interested in their lives. Also, it doesn’t have a predictable “everything is perfect” ending.
This book introduced me to a great author who was new to me. I went on to turn buy the first book in the series that this stand-alone book derives from. It is equally good and I’ll read the whole series, I’m sure, because it’s positively addictive. Great characters, creative storyline and villains you love to hate.
This is my first book of April White’s, but I hope it won’t be my last.
She spins an interesting story using the fact that Edger Allen Poe disappeared for five days in 1849. He was found wandering near Gunnar’s Hall in Baltimore, delirious and possibly drunk, wearing strange clothes and carrying a cane. Poe died four days later in a Baltimore hospital, never having regained proper consciousness except to call out for a mysterious person by the name of “Reynolds.”
April White goes on to suggest that Poe was a Clocker, who had time travelled into the 21st Century and back where he had stumbled into Alexandra “Ren” Reynolds, who also hid a secret.
The book is well written and interesting. I loved the characters and the story.
I really did enjoy reading this. I call it a double “what if.” What if a person could live “forever” and what if “accidental” time travel were possible.
Here we have Ren who has been alive for a very long time. This is not something introduced at the beginning. Here comes someone who lived a century or more ago. Even though there is no swash buckling, daring do the story has mystery and all that goes with it.
Ren is the owner operater of a bar in a historical building in Baltimore. Toward closing time, on a “not to busy” evening a man stumbles in. I will leave his identy a secret. Ren must protect him from certain people, as well as himself. Now, add in the mix a proprietor who is sure the person is a thief who “stole” from him and a policeman who wants to date Ren, and finally the homeless man who sleeps in the alley behind her bar.
Good story telling for all ages.
I guess it just didn’t go deep enough for my taste, but an interesting premise.
Poe was a time traveler? It is an intriguing perspective on one of my favorite authors. I have read all of his prose and I never saw the themes of clocks and spirals. This has inspired me to re-read his work to see the patterns.
