The sequel to the New York Times bestselling epic Dread Nation is an unforgettable journey of revenge and salvation across a divided America. After the fall of Summerland, Jane McKeene hoped her life would get simpler: Get out of town, stay alive, and head west to California to find her mother. But nothing is easy when you’re a girl trained in putting down the restless dead, and a devastating loss … putting down the restless dead, and a devastating loss on the road to a protected village called Nicodemus has Jane questioning everything she thought she knew about surviving in 1880s America.
What’s more, this safe haven is not what it appears—as Jane discovers when she sees familiar faces from Summerland amid this new society. Caught between mysteries and lies, the undead, and her own inner demons, Jane soon finds herself on a dark path of blood and violence that threatens to consume her.
But she won’t be in it alone.
Katherine Deveraux never expected to be allied with Jane McKeene. But after the hell she has endured, she knows friends are hard to come by—and that Jane needs her too, whether Jane wants to admit it or not.
Watching Jane’s back, however, is more than she bargained for, and when they both reach a breaking point, it’s up to Katherine to keep hope alive—even as she begins to fear that there is no happily-ever-after for girls like her.

I loved this book as a sequel to Dread Nation. I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster at times, but, all in all, it was definitely a page-turner. If you’ve read Dread Nation, you should definitely read Deathless Divide.
The first book was better! The character’s character changed in an unexpected way which made it not as interesting as the first book, but it ended ok.
Ireland topped the first in the duet, which was hard to do. We learn more about Katherine and Jane thanks to the addition Katherine’s POV, which greatly enriches the story (and shows what an unreliable narrator Jane can be). Fabulous story my a new to me author. Loved it.
The sequel to DREAD NATION was just as brilliant and unique — with the added benefit of Katharine’s POV, which I adored. These two books were beyond stellar, and some of the best stories I’ve read in years. Cannot recommend enough!
Dread Nation is one of my favorite books. I never imagined I’d be saying that about a zombie book… but the setting and characters make this series. I was so excited when I found out there was a sequel coming. And it doesn’t disappoint. The Setting—a zombie apocalypse in the midst of the civil war—was ingenious and Justina Ireland is wonderful at world and character building. I also highly recommend the audio versions of both Dread Nation and Deathless Divide. Bahni Turpin is one of my all time favorite narrators so I was thrilled to find her narrating one of my all time favorite books! She is expert at narrating characters from all walks of life. Her performance is both hysterical and believable. I absolutely love this series and really hope there’s going to be another!
Deathless Divide was so damn good. I love Katherine and Jane even more after reading this book. Their friendship was one I adored so much. The love they had for one another was genuine and imperfect. Katherine was Jane’s voice of reason and she was a real or die, not letting Jane go at anything without her. She is just as badass as Jane.
Jane goes through so much in this book and it takes its toll on her. I love what Justina Ireland did with her character. Jane holds so much responsibility on her shoulders and with each new horror that happens you see how it hardens and changes her. I really felt for Jane. She tries so hard not to show her feelings even though Katherine sees her. She is hardened by the horrors of Summerland and vows to never let something like that happen again.
Deathless Divide was gritty as ever. I can never get enough of Jane at work. She is smart, witty, and takes nonesense. I like her drive and determination even if it gets her into trouble. I loved following her story seeing her struggle. Unimaginable things happen to her and she finds her way through it all. Katherine was a breathe of fresh air. I loved her even more than I did in the first book. It was great getting to know her as a character and understand her. The friendship between these two woman was unique and beautiful as it transcended distance and time. This was an all around great book. I just want more of Jane and Katherine.
A great sequel with unexpected heartbreak, shambler bites, and a change of company kept. This story takes us on a trek across the country with Jane, dead set on avenging her friends and Katherine clinging to the notion that she can have just a simple and stable life as an entrepreneur in a new town. Its honestly an astonishing story line with an ending ripe for future adventures.
Bump along in the darkness long enough and it will try to swallow you whole. But the light can always shine through if you give it time to find you and embrace it like an old friend.
