“Funny and witty, with a clever, outspoken heroine.” -Library Journal
A ROLLICKING TALE OF MURDER, ROMANCE, AND A BORDELLO… done, a lovely evening turns even more delightful when she’s picked up by the cops and spends the next two hours at the Hall of Justice. Could this day get any worse? Of Course! Guess who arrives home to find a dead hooker on her living room floor!
Handsome Parker Phillips, Rebecca’s new beau and the most attractive man she’s met in ages, is arrested for the murder. (Worse, she suspects he might actually have done it.)
On the plus side, another very attractive man is following the case — reporter Rob Burns of the San Francisco Chronicle, a possible ally. And there are other possibilities.
Fans of Janet Evanovich, Stephanie Bond, and Elizabeth Peters will get a kick out of this one.

I think that Julie Smith is often overlooked by all the hype about Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich. Her characters are well developed, and her plots nicely drawn. I enjoy both the Rebecca Schwartz books, and her New Orleans Series about Skip Langdon.
“Death Turns a Trick” is the first novel in a cozy-mystery series, and a real palate-refresher after my previous, difficult read.
Rebecca is a lawyer in San Francisco who loves the piano as a hobby, which is how she ends up entertaining the party-goers at a bordello belonging to one of her legal clients. Rebecca goes full camp, dressing up as one …
Laugh out loud funny story; filled with twists and turns throughout. The characters are wonderful, if a bit of the box. Great beach, fireside or uplifting quarantine read. Looking forward to the next book. Highly recommend! Happy reading!
A fun mystery. Keep you laughing
I rally enjoy Julie Smith’s mysteries and Rebecca is a hoot; entertaining and good dialog.
I like anything Julie Smith has written
As soon as I read the synopsis I had to find out why a lawyer would be playing the piano in a brothel. I’m glad we find out right away. Funny things happen before she gets home that day (though she doesn’t find them funny). She is so relieved to get in her apartment. That is until she finds a dead prostitute in her living room. The whole place had …
Laughed out loud many times when reading this — fun!
The author was compared to Janet Evanovich and her character Stephanie Plum. Ha! The book was boring and I do not recommend it.
I enjoyed this book a lot!
Boring
Interesting characters in a fairly original setting
I’ve been hooked on two of Julie Smith’s series since I read the first one. Her characters are real, witty, outspoken, imaginative, fun. You can keep the characters straight as she’s a great writer. Isn’t wordy so you get on with the story.
Much too wordy in the characters description of everything.
Great easy read, I feel like it was a bit too short and the ending seemed rushed. I love the fun style and vivid descriptions.
