Death Track – Cavendish & Walker Book 3more
Easy to read and holds the readers interest. Good story.
This is not a stand-alone novel. I’d not read the others in the series and was wondering why one of the main character’s relationship kept interrupting the solving of the murders. Finally enough references to prior activities made it apparent that this book was just a long chapter in a much longer narrative.
The thinking process used by the inspector to catch this killer was remarkable.
As a member of the arc team I received a copy for review. Having read the previous books in this series I was excited to get into this story. Happily it did not disappoint. Whitney and George are still a great team and to watch them in action is great. I would happily recommend this book for lovers of a good whodunnit.
By now I know when this author has one it will be a good one. This murder mystery will grab you right away. Whitney will have her hands full in this. There is a time crunch also so that will help pull you to the edge. Even though she does have help this one is a big one. Other outside forces will be involved also with not just the murders. This is written so well that it envelopes you making you part of the story from beginning to end. I look forward to when she gives us another one.
What I loved: In Death Track we continue to see a realistic evolution of two friends and how their lives change. Each character has their own foibles but are not above receiving constructive criticism about those behaviors so it is easy to love them. Reading this book feels like watching a favorite TV show, I can cheer for George and Whitney and enjoy the process of solving the crime. For a person who loves British television crime shows, this is the perfect book series!
In this story, the author uses dates to give the sense of time passing, which I like. Her switches between characters’ actions/thoughts are clear and maintain the smoothness of narrative. We get more insights into the two main characters’ lives and personality as well as their friendship. Again we have a look into the killer’s mind, explaining the motivation, something that the police do not become privy to until nearer the end as they uncover more and more. The police procedures are excellent, Walker’s police team’s professionalism and cooperation, uplifting; and the solving of the mystery, logical. Once again, getting to the killer’s identity is tangled web of secrets & omissions with eventual discoveries of the truth, and the true identity takes the reader by surprise! However, I do have one objection of unfair: at the very end, an escaped prisoner takes Walker away from her team’s victory celebration – come on now, Ms. Rigby – that’s not fair to leave your readers hanging – who escaped????
Very slow
I really enjoy this series. I never figure out who the murderers are. It’s always a surprise until the end.
Sally Rigby’s books are fantastic. Can’t wait for the next ones to come out. Go Sally!
There was an interesting plot with an unusual, revenge-motivated serial killer. Thee two lead female characters were a detective and a forensic scientist. Good plot twists.
Good book, keeps you reading to see how it will resolve, worth the time!
On the train from Newcastle to Lenchester a 15-year-old boy is murdered, first sedated with chloroform and then stabbed between the ribs. A MO that’s known from the ‘carriage killer’, who over the last 2 years has killed 12 people in 3 cities, 4 victims in each over a 2 week period. So DCI Whitney expects more murders. The regional task force sends 2 officers to help with the investigation. Whitney is anything but happy and thinks them patronising and uncooperative, but has to work with them anyway. On top of that, her old nemesis ‘dickhead Douglas’ (her old boss in the prequel) turns up as well and tries to meddle.
What I like about Sally Rigby’s books is that they’re so down to earth and credible, from the storyline to the procedures and investigation techniques down to the characters and their behaviour. It’s nice to see how Whitney and George influence one another over the course of the series and bring out the best in the other. Their relationship keeps growing and brings about changes in their attitudes and behaviours. George even starts dating a man she likes. This is rapidly becoming one of my favourite detective series.
I received a free arc from the author and this is my honest review.
After a teenage boy is found dead on a Lenchester train, Detective Chief Inspector Whitney Walker believes they’re being targeted by the notorious Carriage Killer, who chooses a local rail network, commits four murders, and moves on.
Forensic psychologist, Dr Georgina Cavendish, is by her side in an attempt to bring to an end this killing spree. But how can they get into the mind of a killer who has already killed twelve times in two years without leaving behind a single clue?
This is book 3 in the Walker/Cavendish series. DCI Whitney Walker is investigating another case with the help of Forensic psychologist, Dr Georgina Cavendish. I really enjoy the relationship between these two character. Very good series. Can’t wait for the next one!
Didn’t have any idea who done it till the end. Page turner for sure.
A great mystery
Showing the reader how good police work is done.
Turner did it again.I fell in love with the Bearings! They kept me guessing to the end.
Each book in the series gets better. In the latest Cavendish and Walker book, Whitney and George are working on another case. George and Whitney are continuing their work and personal relationships. Their friendship is growing and their banter is fun and adds a level of depth to the story. The other supporting characters are developing as well. I’d like to learn more about some of them as the stories continue.
In this story, there is precise time table added to the pressure of solving a murder. I really do enjoy the way this author presents the path the police work to solve the case. There are enough twists in the plot to keep the story interesting.
I look forward to the next in the series. I received an Advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I just finished reading the third book in the Cavendish and Walker Series, and I was duly impressed. Death Track brought in some new characters that stirred up the team dynamic. There were also some personal life changes that made the story interesting on another level.
I’m a new fan British procedurals and I really liked the way that the story moved forward. The team of secondary characters are well-written and I feel like I’m one of the group as they work together to solve the crime.
Though neither of them are perfect, the author has written the two main protagonists perfectly. She makes it easy to relate to Cavendish and Walker, feeling their failures and triumphs right along with them.
As the two women work together the author gives us a witty and evolving friendship where both women change for the better as they use their individual skills to solve serial crimes in the west midland area of England.
This one kept me guessing how they’d figure out who the killer was. There was a large pool of suspects and with time running out before another murder, there was plenty of action along with straight forward crime solving.
This book was well-written and kept my interest from beginning to end. This complete series is well worth reading and I loved each book.
I was given a copy courtesy of the author and this is my honest review.
