When a competitive archer is murdered at the training facility where Di has just started working, she’s thrust into the middle of an unofficial investigation before she can even settle into her new life. With her roommate Mary and a Great Dane named Moo, she begins to unravel the mystery around the death of the victim, but can they solve the case before they find themselves in the killer’s … killer’s sights?
A wholesome cozy murder for every sleuth in the family
This is the first book in a brand-new series set at the fictional Westmound Center for Competitive Shooting Sports in rural Wyoming.

This is a very nice cozy mystery novella about Di who has started working at an archery training facility. Di has a roommate, Mary and a Great Dane, Moo and they get involved in an unofficial investigation of a competitive archer. This was a very easy audiobook to listen to.
Really good book
My first book by this author but definitely not going to be my last. This is an original well written cozy mystery. Loved the characters & setting. I look forward to reading more in this series.
This review is for the audio version.
This was a fun book to listen to. I enjoyed the characters but I love snark and drama when I’m not living it. I thought the story was hilarious. I like Di and Mary but honestly, Moo steals the show. I never thought about a series location being at a range. What could go wrong at a range? An archery range at that? Murder. Murder could go wrong. The story is a fast listen and does a good job introducing the series.
The author did the narration on this. I’m not a big lover of authors narrating their books. However Nikki Haverstock did a good job. I think, because of the number of characters and the snarky drama, having a couple narrators would have been more enjoyable. But the author didn’t stumble, mumble, or bore me as others have. She was easy to listen to.
I recommend the audio version as well as the book. I had an enjoyable morning listening to it.
This is a mystery, but the book as a whole was not very entertaining for me.
Death on the Range, My first read from author Nikki Haverstock and the first in the Target Practice Mystery Series. I bought the Kindle edition back in November of 2015 & never got around to reading it until I got the Author’s Direct audio edition a few days ago. Well-written & enjoyable. a cute, clean cozy mystery that appeared stilted at times. I think that was narration though. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. Since I already own 10 books by her that won’t be a problem. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Hell Hath No Fury
Fun, feathery (oops, that would be “fletched”!), fast little mystery with an interesting ensemble type plot, some great background on the sport of archery, and a fun summation. Our heroine starts out with a shadowy past which is revealed just before we catch the killer. The author’s reading of her own tale is animated and clear (although I would have enjoyed a bit more vocal variation for the different characters).
This is the first of Nikki Haverstock’s books that I have read. Being the first in the series, it was a great place to begin. Trying to move on from her former life, Di takes a job as a tech consultant and moves to an archery facility her bestie runs. Her first night there, she stumbles across the dead body of a former college teammate. Her and her new roommate, Mary decide to snoop around and see if they can solve the mystery. The chase of characters are great. Their individual personalities shine in each chapter. It was a fun book. My husband is an avid hunter so I am around bows and archery, but I had no idea what the world of competitive archery entailed. Nikki made sure to explain all the technicalities of it all in order for a clueless reader to understand. Can’t wait for the next adventure Di has. Hearing the book from the author is always a plus. You can hear the emotions in their writing.
I liked this book, it has suspense, murder and lots of action. Who would murder one of the competitors? Di and Mary decide to find the killer, can they do it before the police solve it, time will tell.
