The Earl of Lowton won’t let anything spoil his daughter’s debutante ball … not even the body floating in the lake. Eliza has other ideas… for the body found dead in the lake.
The timing couldn’t be worse. With only hours to go before the biggest event in the Lowton’s social calendar, the family have no intention of letting it ruin the occasion.
But Eliza isn’t family.
Determined to prove that the death was murder, Eliza enlists the help of husband Archie, and best friend Connie. But it soon becomes apparent that not everyone wants to see justice done. Can Eliza fight against powerful vested interests and expose the killer … or is she risking too much for the sake of her principles?

A great turn-of-the-20th-century cozy mystery series!
I downloaded and read the first book of this series as part of a cozy mystery authors’ giveaway promotion. I am so glad that I did. I enjoyed it so much that I am downloading the remaining books in the “Eliza Thomson Investigates Murder Mystery” series to my KU library. This turn-of-the-20th-century cozy mystery series has got me hooked.
Eliza does not behave as the men, and apparently most women, of England in 1901 expect her to behave. She is determined, outspoken, unyielding, and fearless in her quest for truth and justice. Especially so as someone she loves has been wrongfully accused of murder, been arrested, and is facing the gallows. As I have come to expect in this cozy mystery series, there are many twists and turns in determining whodunit in this mystery.
Written in UK English and set in 1901, some American English readers may find following the story confusing at first. However, I assure you that it is worth reading on to the finish. It is an entertaining little cozy mystery. A clean, fun, and witty read. I recommend “Death of an Honourable Gent” for anyone who loves reading a good mystery.
Eliza, she always finds a way to help the inspector solve the misterious situations in which they are involved. Justice for all and above all.
April 1901: Eliza Thomson and her husband,
Archie are invited to a house party and coming
out party at the estate of the Earl of Lowton.
Since Archie was on call in Moreton, Eliza takes
her best friend and close neighbor, Mrs Connie
Appleton to accompany her to the affair.
Eliza’s father Mr Bell is also attending.
Eliza, Connie and Mr Bell are the only untitled
persons at the affair. They are friends of the
Earl of Lowton’s wife who prior to marriage was
untitled.
The Earl’s brother was very critical of any untitled.
So when the brother was dead in the pond, the
Earl decides to call it an accident.
But Eliza telegrams Archie to come to the estate
as she believes it to be the murderer.
Then Mr Bell is taken off to jail after being judged
by the powerful aristocrats.
Eliza goes into action to prove him innocence with
the help of her friend in New Scotland Yard.
An intriguing, interesting complex murder mystery.
A myriad of characters all claiming innocence and
all full of inconsistencies.
Vivid, colorful, detailed descriptions of the estate
and characters plus captivating writing.
This is book # 3 in the Eliza Thomson Investigates
Mysteries Series. It can be read as a stand alone.
I volunteered to read Death of an Honourable Gent.
Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion
is voluntary and my own.
Compelling Cozy Mystery

Format: Kindle Edition
Another intriguing mystery to be solved…luckily Eliza and the loyal Connie are on the scene to make sure that the truth wins out. This murder is more than an interesting challenge to be figured out however…someone close to Eliza is threatened and she needs to apply her shrew deductive abilities and persistence to ensure that justice is served. Read as a free ARC but this review is voluntary and my own unbiased opinion.
I just love this series!
Eliza and Connie are back again and stumble over another body. Was it an accident or murder? Most of the cast of characters are related and titled so they couldn’t possibly have had anything to do with the body! So that leaves Eliza and her family.
I love the time period that this series takes place and the author does such a wonderful job of describing it. And the upper crust is so snobby and self righteous! Can’t wait for the next book in the series!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
Eliza Thomson and Connie Appleton go to a house party at Lowton Hall where an honorable gentleman ends up dead. Eliza and Connie now need to figure out who killed him before it is too late! Very interesting cozy mystery, well-written and character driven. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
