The third murderous instalment of the Death in Paradise Mysteries is perfect for fans of Agatha Christie and Midsomer MurdersSeconded from rainy London to the sweltering heat of the Caribbean island of Saint Marie, DI Richard Poole would rather be having a pint at his local pub.
But when a body is discovered at the Beaumont plantation, DI Poole must put aside his woes and solve the murder. … put aside his woes and solve the murder. Despite the fact the victim was found in a locked room holding a smoking gun, Poole is convinced this is not a suicide. When another body turns up the hunt is on for the killer, and the evasive Beaumont family are – rather suspiciously – no help at all…

I love the TV series Death in Paradise, so I was a little worried the books wouldn’t match up – but I had nothing to fear. The books are great! Robert Thorogood does a fine job with our dear DI Richard Poole and all his quirks!
DI Poole is not happy to be in the Caribbean and really doesn’t fit in very well. He is having trouble adjusting to the pace of life on the island. However a frustrating murder keeps the team occupied. I man is found murdered in a locked room with no way in or out. This actually was the issue in the last one too. The victim is meant to look like a suicide and happens on a old coffee plantation. Someone in the family must have done it. But who and how.
Of course things are not as they always seem. And a second murder seems to add more clues.
Good mystery and I like the characters, but I also love the show.
Love all these books about Death in Paradise. Hard to put down.
Just like the TV show. I love the show so it was nice to read a new episode.
If you like the tv series, you will love these books. The charactres are distinct and enjoyable. The books are different from the series because they are told with Poole as the narrator. He is delightfully grumpy. Enjoy this book.
I’m a fan of the tv series and the books are every bit as enjoyable.
This was a fun read.
Intelligent, well constructed and well written. I especially liked the quirky characters. A mystery with gentle humor and an acceptance of human foibles.
A good plot with a great cast of characters. It kept me going while waiting for the new season of the television show to air.
Nice way to extend the fun of watching the TV series.
If you like the TV series Death in Paradise you will love this book. The charecters are good and the story line was enjoyable. Fun, easy ,entertaining read.
I enjoyed all of the characters. Lots of humor. This time I couldn’t solve early enough ‘who done it’. A quick read to enjoy on a rainey afternoon.
I’ve enjoyed the TV series on PBS for years but had not read any of the books.
Nice to see it in print thought I don’t remember this particular episode.
Book is taken from a TV series Death in Pardise. Really enjoyed the book , lots of twists and turns keeps you looking for who truly did the deed.
I really enjoy this series, both the books and on TV.
You will meet all the characters from “Death in Paradise” TV series. A fun, easy reading book.
Reading this book was just like watching Death In Paradise on tv. Love book and series
Good read. Didn’t want to put it down. Love the characters and the use of humor, though it’s not a “funny book”.
Not up to previous stories and certainly not up to the television series. A nice, quick read, but the ending is tipped off way too early in the book.
I loved the Death in Paradise series, so it was enjoyable to get a different view of the story through reading.
The plot was compelling and complex from the beginning. Like all good mysteries, what happened in the past impacted multiple lives and set the course for the consequences.
Whether you watched the series on PBS or not, you can enjoy working out the guilty party in this engaging story.
