A woman haunted by her past. A killer who won’t let her forget.
Faith Day’s condition curses her to recall her mother’s fiery murder like it was yesterday. And when the forensic photographer’s convicted stepbrother is somehow cleared 12 years later and released from prison, Faith wonders if he’ll put an end to her tortured memories. But after a string of eerily familiar fires tear through her … tear through her small town, Faith starts to question every detail of her traumatic past.
Luke Justice won’t rest until he catches a notorious serial killer masking his murders in arson. Following a trail of deadly blazes to Faith’s doorstep, the FBI agent senses she holds the key to the case. But if he can’t convince her to open up, Luke fears he’ll miss his best chance to put a psychopath behind bars.
As Faith fights the resurgence of dark emotions, an arsonist begins leaving personal totems in her home. Determined to stay alive, she taps into the only weapon she has against the vicious murderer: the echoes of her childhood nightmare.
Can Faith help Luke unmask the true killer before they both go up in flames?

Heather Sunseri’s DEATH IS IS THE DETAILS characters and small-town culture is spot on. I grew up with these people. For Faith, remembering every single second of her life is more of a curse than a comfort. When her step-brother, is released from prison will Faith be able to let go of the past? Who is responsible for setting a series of fires and killing seemingly innocent people? What is the arsonist/killer’s connection to the deaths of Faith’s mother and step-father? DEATH IS IN THE DETAILS will keep you guessing to the end.
I could not read fast enough. I love a good mystery and this one did not disappoint. 5 stars
I didn’t see that ending coming!
Easy read with likeable characters.
Really good book! Very precisely researched and written.
Excellent reading even though their was some holes in the story
Good read
Surprise ending for me but a good ending.
I really enjoy the way Heather Sunseri writes. Once I get started reading, I really don’t want to put it down! I get totally absorbed in the story, the suspense, the characters. She has a way of capturing one’s attention and holding it until the end. I look forward to the next in the series!
This book has it all! It will keep you guessing who committed the crimes until the very end. Plus it has interesting characters and enough romance to keep the story interesting!
Wow just wow! 5 amazing stars for Death is in the Details by Heather Sunseri. If I could give this 10 stars I would in a second. This book was simply amazing. I do not know if I have ever been so into a book that I did not even high light any quotes. That is how into this book I was. Normally when I read a suspense, I can figure out what to expect or what is coming but with this book I had no idea what was coming. I was completely shocked at the end. Just when I thought I knew something, the author added something that changed my mind. While there is romance in this book, I would not consider it the main focus. I would consider it a thriller or just a suspense novel. Faith has had a rough life ever since the night she lost her mother. Her mother and stepfather were brutally murdered then set on fire. She suffers from a condition called hyperthymia which means she remembers every single thing about anything she has been a part of. This means she remembers every detail of the night that changed her life. He step – brother Ethan was the one charged with the crime but recent evidence that shows he could not have done it has allowed him to be released from prison. Faith is a crime scene photographer and Now there are new murders / arson in the area and someone also seems to be stalking Faith. These new crimes bring in an FBI agent name Luke. There is an instant attraction between Luke and Faith, but Faith doesn’t really do relationships. More murders and fires are started and people suspect it is Ethan but what does Faith think. She has been hiding something that could change everything. The only family she has left is her aunt, uncle , brother and her brothers wife, she is afraid to let Luke in but he seems to slip in anyway. Luke knows there is more to these fires and murders than everyone is seeing. He thinks there is a serial killer on the loose and knows someone is after Faith. Is it the same person or are they different.
I can not explain to you how amazing this book it. I can not wait for the next one. I hope it picks up right where this one left off. I will tell you that it is left with a bit of a cliffhanger but that is all I am going to say about that. Just be ready for a wild ride.
This is my first time reading this author and I was not disappointed. Death is in the Details was a phenomenal read. It has a mind-blowing storyline, great characters and the writing style is amazing. The author surpassed ever expectation I had going into this book. The author’s talent for capturing details and building up the story and characters is amazing.
I absolutely recommend this book and will be reading more from this author very soon.
This is the first book I read from this author but man was I hooked! This story was so intriguing! It’s pack full of interesting facts that have me thinking a lot of research goes into each novel she writes. This story is different from what I normally read, but I enjoyed it all the same. I’m so happy I was introduced to Heather Sunseri and I cannot wait to star reading other novels by her!
Faith’s life has been nothing short of tragic. She has managed to keep herself together and secure a job as a contract crime scene photographer.
Years after that terrible night and she still is subject of town gossip. It doesn’t help that He is released from prison. Someone is seeking justice on behalf of victims. Someone is watching her.
Is everything as it seems? Is the convicted really guilty? Is her memory right? Why is this all happening?
This is not your typical suspense or thriller story. It is twisted and throws you for a few loops along the way. I love the characters and how easy it was to get caught up in it. There is a bit of romance but not a typical HEA either. Fantastic read.
This is the first book that I have read from Heather. I am hooked. I read what this one was about and wanted more. Getting into the book you know right from the start it is going to be intense and interesting. And that is exactly what this book is. Full of suspense, mystery, shocking twists and turns you never seen coming and a very mind blowing ending. Everything I want in a great book. Heather has gained a fan with this one. Faith is haunted every day by her past. But now more so than just her memory remembering her. She works with the police department taking pictures at crime scenes and lately there appear to be a lot of fires going on in her town. Special Agent Luke Justice comes into town to investigate these fires and opens up even more things for her when he reopens her mother’s case. But what makes this even more interesting is the one person put away for her mother’s death is let free and is proven to be innocent but is he so innocent? This book had me on the edge of my seat at every turn. It gripped me from the very first fire to the very last word on the very last page. I literally wanted to throw my kindle across the room at the end of this book. I was shocked to find out who the person was that was doing the fires. Heather wrote such an amazing book you have no idea who the person is. Great storyline amazing characters. I absolutely loved the chemistry between Luke and Faith. This is a 10 star book. It was freaking amazing and I highly recommend it. There better be more because I have to know what happens to Faith after reading that ending. I cannot be left hanging like that. Get to one clicking this one I guarantee you will not regret it.
The detail is this is a twist tale. Faith Day has a rare trait that allows her to remember every detail of every day of her life. As a forensic photographer this serves her well but remembering that her step brother killed her mom and his dad and then torched the house almost cripples her with grief at times. Now that her step brother has been released there is a sudden rash of murders/arson happening and someone is stalking Faith. Maybe’s Faith’s memory of what happened all those years ago isn’t as accurate as she thinks. Little by little the clues are not pointing to the obvious suspect – Faith has no idea that her life is about to be turned upside down.
I just completed “Death Is In The Details” by Heather Sunseri. I couldn’t put it down, and my first thought after finishing was “Holy Crap!”. The story, characters, and suspense are all riveting. You just don’t expect to find a serial killer in a small town, and this just adds to the level of suspense. The first page of the story gave me goosebumps, and it just continued. Don’t open this book unless you plan to finish it in one sitting. Death truly IS in the details!
As always, Heather delivers when it comes to suspense in this novel. The story itself is fast-paced, well written and thought out, but also includes such in-depth details that make the story that much more real. While the story is written from a different angle than other Sunseri novels, the characters are still fully developed and super interesting! I love all of Suneri’s works, and find myself on the edge of my seat waiting for her next book! This book is great for those wanting a great mystery novel full of suspense!
Just one more chapter….
It’s hard for me to pick up and start a book. Especially one from one of my favorite authors. You know their books are good, you hope this next one will be just as good if not better than the others, and once you start it, there goes your day. One more chapter. Then one more. Hours spent enjoying the character development, reveling in the world building, and (in the case of a mystery or thriller) picking apart the story, trying to figure out the whodunnit. Once you finish, then it’s the continuing to think about the world you just left and the new characters you met.
Heather Sunseri’s newest book, Death is in the Details, checks off all those boxes. Intrigue, fun characters, a little bit of romance and an ending you didn’t see coming a mile away. This book was definitely a must read. A great start to a new series.
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! I REALLY enjoyed this book but now that’s it’s done I am not sure how to process it all. Faith is a great example of a broken character. The thing with deeply flawed and scarred characters is they are unlikable at times. That’s not a bad thing because it makes them real. I felt she grew on me and I understood her better as the story unfolded. Luke, on the other hand, is perfect. There’s no other way to describe him. The thrilling suspense was definitely there. The story was well done and an emotional roller coaster. I figured a big part of it out earlier than I would have liked but there were enough twists to keep me reading and wanting more. The end caught me off guard. I’m still not sure what I think but I have a feeling I will be thinking about it for a while. It was a great read and I 100% recommend it. I have followed Heather Sunseri since Mindspeak and she never disappoints.
