Hoping to open a bed and breakfast, Sunni sets herself the task of refurbishing the rundown Cider Ridge Inn, a … rundown Cider Ridge Inn, a two-hundred-year-old house with a sordid past. In the meantime, she’s stuck writing dull human interest stories for the Junction Times. But when Sunni decides to bend the rules on her first newspaper assignment, she soon finds herself in her favorite place—right in the center of a murder investigation. Now if she can just steer clear of the cocky, irritating and far too appealing local detective, Brady “Jax” Jackson.
It isn’t long before Sunni discovers that avoiding Jax is a piece of cake compared to staying clear of the equally cocky, irritating and far too appealing two-hundred-year-old ghost haunting the halls of the Cider Ridge Inn.
Death in the Park is a full-length cozy mystery novel with a fun paranormal twist.

Death in the Park is London Lovett’s first book in her Firefly Junction Cozy Mystery Series. This is a great start as the book is really good!
As we know from her Port Danby Cozy Mystery series, Lacey “Pink Pinkerton”, the flower shop owner, is quite useful with the ability to sniff out anything. In this new series Sunni Taylor, a really top rate reporter, decided to move to Firefly Junction to live close to her sisters. Sunni is hoping to renovate and open a Bed and Breakfast Inn, where the people in the town think a ghost resides! Sunni does not think nor believe there is a ghost there, just a lot of hard work to be done to open the inn.
On the other hand, one of her sisters has a friend that is a fortune teller, holds seances and can speak to the deceased. Of course both her sisters are on board to do a seance, but Sunni has to do her job for the paper, and refuses to give any credence to a ghost living in the house she bought and now resides in.
This book is filled with wonderful characters, the first we meet being a bunch of nice old ladies making a quilt for the retired high school custodian, the man Sunni is supposed to do her story on. Sunni meets them and although she is very disappointed with the assignment, things come to a screeching halt the next day when she goes to work and finds out the retired janitor has been murdered.
Her boss now wants her to cover the summer work experience program for the local high school, and she isn’t on campus for less than 10 minutes before her “radar” goes off telling her a lot of things are not adding up.
This book has a lot of twists and turns London Lovett is known for in her other series, and between the sometimes hilarious antics of Sunni, as well as her family and all the other characters this book is an unputdownable story. Read on and watch how Sunni gathers all her clues, how she goes about discovering them and her continually running into the “hot” detective who is amused and irritated by Sunni.
Is there a ghost in the mansion she bought that she is working to turn into a bed and breakfast inn? You will have to read and find out! I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one! I gave this book 5*****stars, and stay tuned for my next review!
This was a nice audiobook to listen to during the few rainy cloudy days. I could picture myself fixing up an old bed & breakfast and having a ghost that plays with my animals.
Fun cozy mystery. Love the interaction between Sunny and her resident ghost. And of course there is the hunky detective. Sunny turns out to be quite the super sleuth.
London Lovett has become one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. If you love words, character insight and wonderful descriptive exposition, you will love her books. I am now reading #7 in the series and it wasn’t my intention to read one after another so quickly. A fun read
Firefly Junction: Death in the Park is a cozy mystery by London Lovett. It’s the first book in the series and introduces Sunni Taylor, spunky investigative journalist, who is renovating an old farmhouse that has a distinctive ghost. She is assigned a piece at the newspaper office on a retiring high school custodian, who comes up dead. Great characters! Fast moving story. Loved it.
DEATH IN THE PARK
Sunni has joined her sisters in Firefly Junction working at the Junction Post. newspaper, wages barely enough to live on. With having the old house that had been sitting empty fixed up to be a B & B she hoped.
Lana with her party business thought it would be a good combination.then with the house having ghosts, and maybe to have seances held.
Sunni stumbles into a big story with the murder and happenings at the school, and meeting the detective Jackson. Now to get the article written about the murder man. Good story, murder along with her sisters.
A very enjoyable read.
Great Series!
A great mystery. Well written and great reading. The main character, Sunni, is a strong person with a funny ego. Love her tenacity to solve the cases.
I enjoyed reading this book and hope to get the next one in line.
Great Mystery
A cozy mystery that takes place in the Smokie Mountain National Park. The 35 year old is starting over near her sisters. She has two dogs and a resident ghost. Slow start but improved and I liked the end.
Love the para-normal twist and the brother/sister fighting duo. Enjoyed it.
Great series of mysteries. Look forward to more being publushed.
Wonderful, well written. Loved the characters and the story. Look forward to reading the other books in the series.
fun
A girl has to do what a girl has to do — especially if she is a reporter. Trying to get the scoop despite the editor’s determination to hold you to “fluff” pieces isn’t easy but she manages it. Piece of cake compared to accepting the ghost in her home.
This story was down right boring and lacked creativity. Perhaps the author was trying to get a first book in the series out to introduce her characters, but she sure missed the boat as far as writing an interesting cozy mystery. The twist, turns, and little surprises you would expect from a “cozy mystery” were missing. This story just plods along until it thankfully comes to an end. There are lots of descriptions of food, buildings, bushes and flowers, but not much else happening in the first half of the book and then a murder occurs. The main character, who is a reporter at the small local newspaper, decides she is going to solve the case. The rest of the book is her wandering around without much finesse trying to uncover clues to the murder. It just wasn’t a very entertaining read.
Very mundane and took too long to get going, really couldn’t capture my attention and so I gave up
Meh. Forgettable
